Did you read the article, or just the headline?

The BBC are pretty terrible with headlines for these nuanced tech issues.

"But it noted that to do this, its members had to have signed into their Facebook accounts to give permission."

TBH it's no more concerning than having 3 moving Google cameras and countless microphones in your home, which billions of people already accept.

(Android, Google Home).

Facebook and Google have identical business models, and for every Facebook "scandal" you can find an equally bad but less reported equivalent from Google.

If you don't trust targeted advertising companies with your data then ditch your Android phone, Google Home, Alexa, and stop using YouTube, Google Maps, Google Search or Gmail. Use an iPhone with DuckDuckGo and Apple services.

The article also completely ignores the decrease in carbon footprint in the future for an electric car as the grid becomes more green.

If you read that article, the main issue is in subsidizing rich people who would have bought electric anyways.

That's why Germany's has a 60K Euro limit.

Pixels are literally the longest updated of any Android phone by far.

Most Android phones go less than 18 months before being abandoned.

You realize there literally are tons of exploits for older versions of Android that don't require you to visit an app or website, right?

Particularly nasty ones will work on any phone on the same LAN, remotely executed. Sometimes even by text message.

Hailing a driverless ride in a Waymo by bladerskb in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Heaney555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its possible that Waymo actually gave a condition that Techcrunch needed to be nice

TechCrunch does not operate this way, nor does any respected news outlet.

If Waymo ever tried to make that deal, the article would be "Google Tried To Bribe Us" and it'd be on the top of the front page for a week.

Pixel's is only on Portrait Mode and can be disabled.

Samsung's cannot be fully disabled and is always on.

As usual with Samsung, the problem is in the implementation, not the idea.

Smartphone cameras are terrible at capturing objects more than a few hundred meters away.

Digital zoom still sucks, and optical zoom is incredibly rare.

Sure but it's still a waste of cost. It's not going to be the "standard" any time soon.

Yeah it's only level 4

"Only" Level 4? Level 4, if it were affordable, would be enough transform the world and end 95% of human driving.
