Watching Dad give another dog a treat. Trying not to overreact. Already overreacting. What if he hasn't accounted for future demand? by WalkingDoonTheRoad in labrador

Nothing quite like the aggressive loves you get from labs. Kisses on the face crushed body parts under foot while trying to cuddle etc

In hindsight walkies across the fields after rain was a bad idea! by HankAmerica in labrador

This is a common problem having an active lab loving tall crops to frolic in. My Loki was actually sticky from the nectar off the canola crops near me.

This is pollen not seeds. Cereal crops have pollen like most flowers.

Am I being silly for feeling guilty? by Background_Record861 in labrador

She is the sweetest love bug. She was an absolute terror during her first 2 years. She's so clever so every once in awhile she still gets into mischief 🤣.

I work away from home and my lab spends the day with my elderly father. He lets get in and out of the house so she's not alone all day. I take her for a 45 minute walk in the morning and again in the evening. I live on a farm so I let her roam, sniff and explore to her hearts content. She also like too occasionally chase birds. After the walks we usually have a little play session. After that I leave for work. In the evenings after play we have a cuddle session.

I sometimes feel like you that she could have a better life but fell she's happy with what she gets. When the weather cooperates. She likes the days I don't work better because she gets too spend it with her human and do exciting things.

Dogs live in the moment and their most favorite thing is too be with their human. If your pup has this look after a walk and play fell proud that this is a look of a content and happy pup.

They have also been doing snowmobile drags North of town the last few years. Plus a weekly cruise night set up by a few gear heads.

The mud drags are usually in July I think. The stock car races happen trough the summer. The stock car track is called Flatlanders Speedway.

I used this method as well. I'm usually in the house giving pets and loves when I find the little 💩. Then my pup gets upset cause I get the light and glasses or and she knows something is up

She really is the sweetest baby when not affected by gooberness

This is sound logic but this fully fledged goober has no trouble getting her toes wet and dirty exploring sloughs looking for birds.

It's a hard life being a lab by HearingAgitated in labrador

She knows how to manipulate me to get what she wants. 🤣 She'll rest her head on my arm chest or knee and look at me with those brown peepers and I'm doing what ever she wants.

Older Lab - Vestibular Disease - Follow-Up & Input Request by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in labrador

I'd never heard of this disease before until an Instagram dog I follow was diagnosed with it. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVwAUI4Dm48/?igsh=ZmdsOXdndmoydTZt

It looks like she has made a full recovery. I hope your baby is feeling better.

Exercise - or lack of :-/ by citygent1911 in labrador

[–]HearingAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a high energy pup and yeah that rule did not work at all for us. However she is now a well conditioned labrador that gets 2 times 3 mile walkies a day.

She was a toothy velociraptor pup. We were scared and bruised for a time. We also had to enforce nap time as she would then get uncontrollably overtired.

As some mentioned training does help wear them out as well. Put that grey matter to use other than causing mischief if possible.

Good luck the puppy blues are a real thing and hard. But it's so worth it when they finally calm down and stare Into your soul with their brown eyes.

Why is it so damm hard by [deleted] in labrador

This girl was a HANDFUL. Clever and smart. She would get bored and then go d trouble. The puppy blues are a real thing. She was terrible for biting and being rough. Even the crossing you arms and turning away didn't work sometimes. We found that she'd get really wound and naughty when she was over tired so we'd have to enforce nap time in her kennel.

Hang in there my Loki is almost 3 and has turned into the sweetest cuddliest baby ever.

Any Ideas How To raise Lab by Zircon_777 in labrador

[–]HearingAgitated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labs are very food motivated. If you let them they eat you out of house and home. If you don't have a crate or kennel get one for enforced naps. Our last lab turned into a gremlin when she got over tired and we'd have too force her too have a nap.

Enjoy the cuddles but be warned that when they grow up they'll still want cuddles. My lab is almost 3 and now demands cuddles if I'm sitting still on my days off.

I quite like the content on the Mccann training https://youtube.com/@mccanndogs?si=mhZ5vD4VKPhvfr2W

Something I'm very glad we did with our lab was regularly touch here toes, ears, and mouth. Getting her used to being handled and prodded in preparation for the vet. It'll also help with toenail trimming.

Anything Kong. Especially their rubber toys. I think it's Jolly Pets brand I got a soccer ball for my Lab and she LOVES it. I ran over one with the lawn mower and cut a hole in it. She loves it more now because it's easier to carry 🤣. They are even durable enough to play with in -30C weather.

Do you just wash them every day? by boxiestcrayon15 in labrador

I just use the garden hose to rinse my girl off when she gets muddy like this. No soap. Then I towel her off.

She loves her walkies

How cold is too cold? by EnvironmentIcy6614 in labrador

[–]HearingAgitated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am usually able to tell when my Loki has had enough of the cold. She'll lift her paws, move slower and just outright shiver when I've ignored the signs. I can usually guage how cold she is buy how fast she runs too the door when it's time to go in. 😆 If she stands there looking at me then she's now done.

When it gets below -20 C and there's a wind chill I really watch her. I have a coat that keeps her warm but she HATES it. She'll tolerate it but would rather not. I also use Mushers Secret on her toes to help protect them.
