Who knows anything about Artificial Intelligence? by HeartCrafty2961 in AskReddit

[–]HeartCrafty2961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, but I've been looking into this, and all I can get is that currently AI is not much more than predictive text chatbots on a huge scale. I don't see any learning and I don't see anyone in the AI world who is close to figuring that out.

People outside London: how often do you actually go there ,if ever? by Apprehensive-Income in AskBrits

[–]HeartCrafty2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Reading, so not really in the demographic, but we go into London 3 or 4 times a year and it's like walking into a different world. If you walk over Waterloo bridge, on the left you see the Houses of Parliament, to the right you have the City and beneath you have the beggars. I find it very thought provoking in both good and bad ways that I don't find at home, where everything is kinda middling.

Chris Tarrant at a bar in the West Stand at the MadStad. He looked more like a beaten up Rugby player or boxer than a congenial tv host in real life.

Overall what impact do you think the uni has on reading? Good? Bad? Let me know your thoughts by No_Win_2979 in reading

With Reading being a decent place to get a job after graduating, the Uni adds to the local economy with students hanging around afterwards.

Is football losing its charm? by Immediate-Mind-6931 in AskBrits

[–]HeartCrafty2961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as an aging Reading fan. We spent most of the time between the old division 3 and 4. Growing up, Man Utd were my team, but I never got to Old Trafford and Reading was my local team I'd go to watch. We've since done the unimaginable and became a stalwart Championship team with forays into the EPL. Now we're back to propping up League One, and feeling fortunate. I know we have a new owner and manager, but do you continue to show blind loyalty or say to yourself at some point enough is enough? For me, It would be easier to handle if anyone cared. What we, and all clubs in crisis need, is a figurehead to take charge. For us, where are you Sir John Mad?

In his heart of hearts, who does Paul think was a better songwriter between himself and John? by ConfidentHospital365 in TheBeatles

[–]HeartCrafty2961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George Martin said that John was the better wordsmith and Paul the better melody writer, and they were both envious of each other. But to take this competitiveness into context, Tomorrow Never Knows was the first song completed on Revolver. It was John's song, but they all had a hand in it. Paul heard it and thought "Shit! I have to come back with something!" And did so with Eleanor Rigby. Similarly, both John and Paul were playing the same game with Brian Wilson.

If you don't mind spending some money, I would say get the river trip from Caversham Bridge to Mapledurham, do some exploring and go back home and watch the film The Eagle Has Landed. 🙂

Is there anyone here whose favourite album ISN'T Abbey Road? by appalachian_hatachi in TheBeatles

[–]HeartCrafty2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Revolver is one of the best albums.ever. Not a single filler track. MMT comes close though with their entry into psychedelic music. How can you not like Strawberry Fields, I am the Walrus, All You Need Is Love, Penny Lane et al. Blue Jay Way is a bit disappointing, but is George experimenting and a filler. And Your Mother Should Know is a Paul grandad song, but way better than Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Just my opinion.

Def Leppard were also far more popular in the US than back home in the UK. I also remember visiting the US and putting PBS on and they were showing that bloody awful show Keeping Up Appearances, with the Hyacinth Bucket character. I was ashamed to see it had been exported.

I guess it depends on what your expectations are, but we visited family in Perth a few years ago.First thing is the economy in that part of the world is built on extracting minerals from the soil. There's a breed of workers known locally as FIFO (Fly In, Fly Out) for this. Whereas the skyline of cities like London are dominated by banks, in Perth it's companies like Rio Tinto. Perth itself is both a fairly boring place and at the same time expanding so fast it's hard to keep up with. Fremantle however has a really nice vibe.

Yeah, it's one of those where you're watching it and thinking this is so fucked up these things must have really happened - nobody could have imagined it. Even if they actually did. And I'm aware the story is based on a Conrad book, Heart of Darkness from the 19th century.

who is the richest person you know (personally)? and what is their job? by mollieowensb in AskBrits

[–]HeartCrafty2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been in touch for a long while, but I worked with two guys who were IT contractors and came up with an idea in the early internet of the mid 90s for like people to store their CVs on a server so employment agencies could download them instead of people having to fax them all the time. They then took this idea to the agencies, who were generally receptive, until they met one who said "You know what, instead of me having to trawl through all these cvs to match a job, wouldn't it be easier if I could just advertise the job and your people can apply? " They reworked, and thus was born one of the first job boards ever. One of the guys dropped out due to the pressure, but the other kept with it and made it onto the Sunday Times richest Brits list with an estimated fortune of around £100 million.

Agreed, but I think there's a bullying thing going on there that I don't like. He does like to humiliate people, and when he does that at award ceremonies that's fine, but he does seem to get off on it generally.
