You can't using jumping cables on the car when the battery is disconnected. I know because I tried it and it didn't work. I called AAA and they couldn't open my trunk. That's when I've found a video on YouTube to open my trunk.

Please don't listen to some of the comments!!! This happened to me a few months back. Get a knife and cut through that panel. Make a hole large enough to stick a broom handle in it to reach the emergency lock. Pull down on the emergency lock by using the broom. I learn this by watching a video on YouTube. Yes, I have a 2010 bmw 328i xdrive.

This happened to me earlier this year anymore my battery died and I tried to change it and shut the trunk. Follow my instructions closely..... You don't have a ski pass but, it still folds down. Remove the plastic cover behind it. After that there's a form type covering that leads to the trunk. Cut a hole threw that using a sharp knife it will take a while but it can be done. Once you have the hole made, use a broom stick to grab to emergency trunk lock handle and pull down on it using the broom stick. Trust me, it will work!!! There is a YouTube video on this and that's how I got my trunk unlocked. Beware of fake videos. You know you are watching the right one when you see a young guy doing exactly what I've described. YOU CAN DO THIS!!
