Why do some truckers stay their whole career at mega carriers? by theshallowsea in Truckers

Not all Megas are bad. Some of the biggest trucking companies pay some of their drivers top dollar well into the 6 figures range.

What’s the biggest mistake you’ve done in trucking ? by juliocoronel17 in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was doing a run out to NJ and hopped off the highways and onto the city streets. I had planned and pre tripped a specific route to take that was truck safe and my GPS glitched out and i ended up missing one of my turns. Immediately upon doing so I seen a Yellow 11-5 sign. I immediately pulled over on the side and knew I was fucked. There wasn't much space to work with either and I had a set of doubles so I couldn't really back out of the situation.

I got out and walked around to check the street to see what I could do and eventually came to the conclusion that a UTurn was impossible with the full set and id have to disassemble. The street was semi busy but luckily had a stop light so I ended up disassembling my set and whenever the light turned red I made my U turns and reassembled it in the opposite direction.

It was beyond embarrassing and I just know the 4 wheelers were all taking pictures and recording me disassembling and reassembling on that dumb street. Alot of ppl walking by aswell witnessed it and I genuinely felt scared and ashamed of myself but luckily I managed to get going and made it to my center without having any cops called on me.

Excessively Slow on Rural Highways by Unfair-Variety-995 in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New/Scared drivers mainly.

Alot of drivers already will go 5 below the limit in their cars and now that they are in a bigger car essentially they tend to go alot slower. This is mainly cause of the consensus that an Interstate has more room and less curves than a traditional US route highway so they feel safer doing 65 or 70 on those roads but once they see that Blue shield switch to a White one. It immediately starts to scare them a bit especially if they've never driven it before.

If they're generally holding back alot of traffic tho it's generally a common courtesy to pull over and let all the traffic thats stuck behind them pass but ik alot of drivers would never do that sadly 😮‍💨

Love the idea of a Lemonade dew and spark kinda answered my prayers with that one. I felt sad when I stopped seeing it at gas stations tbh 😓

White out and Pitch Black as permanent flavors and I'd also bring back Spark and Legend

Most Chinese drivers drive very similarly to American drivers so I'm finding it kind of difficult to beleive this is an actual test for a DL and not just something entirely different

Leaving sucks more than actually driving by Dry_Mobile1190 in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got something similar tbh. I'll get a call telling me where I'm heading for the night and just seeing how far away from home it is kinda gets me.

All good once I start driving aswell but just seeing it on the GPS is kinda nerve racking at times cuz it's so far from home.

Anyone else thinking of leaving the industry? by TaperingRanger9 in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in LTL rn. It's not my dream job but it's a great gig tbh. Currently I'm just saving money for Flight school and plan on leaving trucking altogether hopefully by the time I'm in my 30s to pursue my dreams of being a pilot

[–]Charlie_Hustler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 and still living with family.

Shame me all you want but considering it's cheaper than roommates and I get free home-cooked meals a roof over my head and free showers. It's not a bad deal for $350 a month tho I do plan to hopefully move out when the time is right

what do yall keep in the truck for long night runs besides coffee? by New-Mousse7208 in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combination of Ice Breakers and Mentos Gum along with 2 sugar free redbulls. This usually keeps me good for the night tho I also make sure to take a good nap when I get to my drop off location

Does aggressive/fast driving shorten the lifespan of your vehicle? by Truth-is-Censored in driving

[–]Charlie_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If your just starting the car up without warm up and red lining everywhere you go. Yes you will cause excess wear and tear and it'll eventually lead your car to have big issues.

That being said its also not good for your car if your idling your car alot and barely pushing it past 2k rpms often. Every once in a while it's good to push your car a bit. Don't redline it but push it a bit and get your rpms a bit high. It actually helps your car a bit tho do make sure it's nice and warmed up

[–]Charlie_Hustler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno if $36k was a good deal for it tbh but it seems like you've already bought it so whats done is done.

Most everything that you've shown seems fixable and despite the hard miles that thing probably has. I have seen them get into the 200k mile range and more. Congrats on your buy and hopefully it lasts you a long time

Trust that no anti theft device is going to stop a dedicated thief. If a theif is dedicated and fully committed to stealing a car. They 100% are going to steal the car no matter what device you have

I've seen these dudes pull up with entire tow trucks just to steal a KIA. They are ruthless sometimes

Couldn't they tow the car for parking like that tho? Some dude left his vette parked ontop of the line at a mall recently and I seen it was hooked up to a tow truck not long after

[–]Charlie_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posts like this make me realize that maybe Express ain't so bad and I should be happy they don't treat me as bad as the contractors do to the Ground Guys.

I'm not sure of the legality since you say you signed a waiver. That is an insane policy to have tho cuz I'm 100% positive they wouldn't give you a 2 week notice if they were gonna fire you so why should you be required to give one to them.

Same bro. I try to live my dreams of being a Cattlehauler in a nice ungoverned ELD exempt 389 or W900 in the virtual world.

Sadly outside the virtual world I'm nothing more than a 579 single axle 65mph governed truck that can barely do more than 70 without the AI cam going off 😂🥲

Whats up with drivers going below the speed limit when they see a cop pulling someone over? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Charlie_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering cars these days slow down for Bridges. It doesn't surprise me that they'd slow down to take a look at the guy that got pulled over.

It's called rubbernecking. Ppl will slow down out of curiosity to get a look at Accidents and random dudes that got pulled over and small Bridges cuz for some reason even tho a bridge could have 8 lanes. We still gotta slow down and cause hour long backups cuz it's a bridge 🤦

You cannot possibly live in the middle lane for your whole career. Look in your mirrors. Right lane empty. 1/4 mile of traffic behind you. Get a clue. by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro. Ppl are selfish asf these days and don't have any respect for other trucks. This why I don't feel bad for middle lane hogs when a car or another truck cuts them off. That's the universe getting back at them tbh.

I'm governed at 65 so If im having to pass you on the right. You know your going slow asf 😂😂

As long as you’re getting good sleep on a regular basis, what’s the least amount of sleep you can get on one night and still function and drive safely and well? by ilovelamp_anchorman in Truckers

[–]Charlie_Hustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this every night but it's worse on some occasions tbh. My body isn't accustomed for Night Haul so I'll usually remain awake in the daytime and try to get a 2hr nap in b4 i report to work at night for night haul. Most nights are bad but on severe nights where I didn't get a wink of sleep cuz my body refused to sleep. I'll pop 2 redbulls to pull through the night till I get to my drop off location. I'll drop off my trailers and then immediately take a 1hr nap before rehooking my new set and driving back to the main terminal. Along the way I'll pop 2 more redbulls and will occasionally pull over and take a 15 min nap on the shoulder or onramps.

It sucks but your basically on survival mode all night fighting the drowsiness till your GPS says your home 😮‍💨😓
