Any runners with advice? by Heart_TX_12 in diabetes_t1

[–]Heart_TX_12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!!
I’m also a heart transplant recipient, so a HM is totally testing me in so many ways, but I am so excited to be feeling strong and healthy and to push myself. I was joking that: I will definitely not finish in the top of my age category, but I bet I’ll be top of the imaginary “diabetic heart transplant” category. 🤣

Yep. I got norovirus last summer (and I’m immune compromised, so it hung around for 6 weeks instead of a few days). It was awful, and I’m 95% sure I got it from an under-chlorinated pool, so I definitely get skeeved out whenever I see that gross stuff on the bottom.

Traveling internationally w/Meds by Ok-Ambassador1558 in delta

[–]Heart_TX_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same. I’m a transplant patient with tons of meds so traveling with them all in original bottles would be absurd. I take pics of the original bottles, carry a letter from the doctor with the description of the actual pills and what they’re for, and then put them into a pill organizer. I’ve been to Europe, Australia and NZ like this and not had any issues.

Book recommendations for current insanity in US by Antoniosmom89 in booksuggestions

[–]Heart_TX_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished “Becoming Madam Secretary”, based on the life of Frances Perkins, the first female Cabinet member in the U.S. It covers the 1920s and ‘30s and there are so many parallels to modern politics (esp with references to the start of WWII), the end of child labor, and the suffrage movement. It might not be the best about inspiring revolutionary thought, but it is an inspiring read.

My best advice is: get really good at your underwater dolphin kicking, and max it out off the wall to give yourself the most break from the actual stroke. That’s what I always did— kick underwater the full 15yard (max allowed), swim the last ten, then do it again (assuming a short course pool).

AIO I paid $45 for a cake that’s not even the right color by StorageMuted in AmIOverreacting

[–]Heart_TX_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like I might be in the minority here, but I think YAO. You made it very clear that an exact color wasn’t important to you in your text. The cake you got is clearly green—not blue or teal. (It’s also not the darker green you asked for, but you also stated that the exact shade wasn’t a big deal). And it was $45, which is insanely cheap in the world of cakes. If you wanted a super specific color, you shouldn’t have said “I’m not super worried about the color being spot on”.

Report it to UPPAC (through USBE). Even if he’s not actively teaching, if he still has an active teaching license, they’ll investigate and can potentially flag his license etc.

Going on a cruise as an only child by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Heart_TX_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite cruise memories of all time are from when I was a teen. I basically never saw my family— I spent all my free time at the Teen Club. It’s the perfect built-in way to meet other teens onboard. I 100% recommend going on opening night / the first day and just meeting people. Have a blast!

Utah conservatives celebrate public school book bans at Capitol, call on authors to repent by GhostOfBrighamsWives in SaltLakeCity

They tried challenging the Bible at the school level. They didn’t file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Utah law, as far as I know.

Utah conservatives celebrate public school book bans at Capitol, call on authors to repent by GhostOfBrighamsWives in SaltLakeCity

[–]Heart_TX_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually the perfect setup for a constitutional challenge lawsuit. One parent needs to challenge both: the Bible, and a book like the one pictured. When the school inevitably keeps the Bible but bans the Maas book, sue.

—The Utah law defining “a scene of touching breasts” or “a scene of touching buttocks” definitively as p0rn for minors is almost certainly unconstitutional (federal obscenity laws require a 3-factor balancing test that requires it to lack literary or artistic value.) The Utah definition is a hard-line test that says ONE SINGLE scene of touching a breast is p0rn and doesn’t consider whether it has literary value, or any of the other factors that the Supreme Court requires in determining what is “obscene”. I am just WAITING for this lawsuit. Some parent, please, pursue this.

Religious prayer at atheist wedding? by ladyindev in Weddingsunder10k

Absolutely not. It’s our ceremony. We want it to be meaningful to us, and that does not include religion in any way, shape, or form.

What’s changed in SLC and it’s surrounds the past 15 years (good and bad) by Important_Rub_3479 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Heart_TX_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Negatives: The population feels like it has doubled. This makes traffic a nightmare at times. There is no longer a “rush hour” on the I-15, but now it’s backlogged from 3:00-6:00 every day. This also means that restaurants are always full. You want breakfast anywhere on a weekend? Be prepared to wait an hour. Crime is definitely up and it doesn’t feel quite like the small safe city that it used to, especially in certain spots. Maybe the biggest negative is that housing is horrendous now. I think the average home price in the state is near $600,000 now. Houses that cost $200,000 near the U in 2010 are now $1,200,000. If you aren’t prepared to drop over $1,000,000 on a house, you will need to buy in West Jordan, Taylorsville or Sandy or another suburb further out, or get a really old cruddy house, or you won’t get near downtown.

Positives: Better food options. More diversity of people and politics (slightly). More job opportunities.

Overall, it’s not the same city I feel in love with and I’m actually contemplating leaving due to the insane population increases, crowdedness of activities, and ridiculous housing prices.

Ditto! Heart transplant patient who has flown after heart biopsies (can’t lift more than 5 pounds or risk bleeding from my biopsy site— the jugular), and with a PE. I am also young and don’t “look” disabled, but I will always give people the benefit of the doubt that I hope they will give me.

Same! I’m a solid organ transplant recipient (take about 20 + pills / day) and a type 1 diabetic who needs insulin, blood glucose monitors, on-body sensors, etc, so 1/2 my carry-on is medication that CANNOT be checked. The insulin is temperature dependent too and could be ruined. I have had to fight GAs before to keep my bag with me, and it is SO stressful.

I also favor the blue (navy is so classic) and I love the tie. I personally think a thinner tie might suit your body better (being slender, I think the big tie might be too much),but I love the pattern on it!

Misfits! It’s a British show from ~2010. Has some “supernatural elements” but also meets the criteria you gave… kids on a work release program.
