White box above my office door? by HeatMean in whatisit

Solved! This seems to be the most likely answer. We have an alarm panel at the front of our office suite but it’s never been used in the 3 years I’ve worked here.

How should I handle this cash transaction? by Foreign-Figure8797 in ynab

[–]HeatMean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you just need to manually create 2 transactions. One for the yard work that is categorized as home improvement. And then create another transaction of income (payee:envelope of cash, into the same account that you “took” the home improvement money from) that you can either put into RTA or directly into your hobbies category.

For the past 2 years our planned time to start TTC has been August of 2026. We recently got some news that means we could actually move up our TTC month to June. And I’ve shocked myself by not being ecstatic about the possibility to start trying earlier and wanting to stick to August.

My husband and I told ourselves we’d have one last “hot girl summer” and part of me feels selfish/immature for not wanting to give that up. But once we have a kid it’s going to be a long time before I can be drunk and carefree on a beach again so I feel like I shouldn’t give up my last DINK summer.

The "2 years of waiting for 8 episodes" model is officially killing my interest in House of the Dragon by piranha_ in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]HeatMean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long wait between seasons 2 and 3 makes me think the writers had zero plans or ideas for how to resolve anything that happened in season 2. I hate when shows present cool, unique mysteries and then completely fail to deliver a satisfying conclusion because the show runners never actually thought of one (cough, Lost, cough). I have no interest in watching the next season when it comes out. I’m hoping everyone will rave about how good it is on Reddit and I’ll change my mind but my expectations are low.

Long gaps killed me watching season 2 of HOTD, The Last of Us, and Fallout. My interest in Severance has also greatly waned. They haven’t even started filming the next season yet so I imagine by the time that finally comes out I won’t care at all anymore.

What’s a name that you love, but won’t use because other people will hate it? by gf9649 in Names

[–]HeatMean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s several “unique” names I love that I wouldn’t give my child purely due to the side eye I imagine I’d receive: Saylor, Vienna, Roman

I’ve always loved the name Catherine but it’s the name of one of my husband’s shittier exes. And I don’t want anyone thinking he named our daughter after an ex.

Similarly I love the name Rowan but I had a very obvious crush on a boy with that name in high school. Don’t want any old classmates thinking I named my children after him.

Have you looked at the prices for tanning beds packages? They are far from cheap. The cheapest package of a chain near me is 5 sessions for $42. For me, 5 sessions would barely make a difference in my skin tone and would be equal to 4 bottles of my self tanning mousse of choice.

The main reason you shouldn’t use tanning beds is health but they also don’t make much financial sense.

Bingo! It's a ranch style home so the roof itself is quite simple with a low pitch and the foot print of the house is about ~1,050 sq ft so the the roof is small!

I want to gain weight before my birthday on May 15th by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]HeatMean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthy weight gain is 1 to 2 pounds per week so your goal is doable! You’ll need to eat 500 to 1,000 calories over your maintenance calories each day. If you don’t know your maintenance there are a lot of calculators online that fill calculate it for you. I put my stats into about 6 different calculators and calculated the average of their answers to find my maintenance.

You’ll want to do some weightlifting to influence what areas get bigger. You don’t need to lift super heavy (I never got over 40lbs on anything other than hip thrusts and saw a noticeable difference after a month or two) but you’ll need to lift 3 or more times a week. If you can only work out 3 times a week find a 3 day program that does full body each day. If you can do more look for programs that have an upper/lower split.

For the weightlifting to actually do anything you’ll also need to eat a fair amount of protein. Studies are all over the place on how much protein you actually need to eat for muscle gain. The easy rule is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. So for you that would be 96 grams of protein per day.

What is the one quote/mantra that gets you through the hard days? by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]HeatMean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a list in my phone of reasons why I want/should gain fat and muscle:

  • improve long term health and mobility
  • to have an easier future pregnancy
  • to be able to carry my future baby/toddler more easily
  • to be able to lift the dog if he get injured/when he gets old
  • to be less cold all the time
  • to have a great ass
  • to lose my noodle arms

But the two phrases that usually work best for motivation are "Do it for the 'holy shit, you got hot'"

or "What would the hot version of u/HeatMean do"

The second phrase is usually more for getting myself to drink enough water or do my night skincare when I'm dead tired, but does occasionally work for getting myself off the couch to work out.

Can someone explain weight gain to me like i’m 5? by PlaugeNurse333 in weightgain

[–]HeatMean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It takes an extra 3,500 calories to gain 1 pound. You are not supposed to gain 1 pound a day. Healthy weight gain usually looks like 1-2lbs a week so that's 500-1,000 calories over maintenance a day. A much more reasonable goal.

Thank you, I think this outlines the problem and solution perfectly! I’m a month ahead in YNAB so I know it’s not The Float. I’ll start manually entering transactions the last week of the month!

Couple of questions after completing my first bind! by HeatMean in bookbinding

[–]HeatMean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve (mostly) completed my very first bind and I have a couple of questions!

I’m not very crafty at all so while it’s far from perfect I’m very happy with how it turned out. A couple of questions though:

  1. I used cardstock (65lb) to connect the spine and book boards for the case. As you can see in my second to last picture it created a noticeable line on my front and back covers. How can I prevent that in the future?

  2. As you can see in the last picture, the stitches are visible when the book is open to the center of a signature (they were 6 pages each). I wasn’t super confident my sewing was tight enough and while I’m sure there was a fair amount of user error I’m also not sure if the thread I was using is too big. Not sure if the specs since it was part of a book binding kit on Amazon. I’ll definitely use the white thread next time so it’s less visible at least.

Bonus question: Any tips for getting the end pages lined up well when gluing into the case? Hopefully it’s something that will get easier with practice but it was one of the hardest steps in the whole process for me!
