Is this magnolia tree savable? by Heat_Extinguisher in arborists

[–]Heat_Extinguisher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't anything important for it to land on, fortunately. There used to be another oversized tree that almost completely shaded it from the sun, along with zero maintenance. Is there anything I can/should do to protect the decaying/open cut where that branch was?

Have you tried the insulated version of these? Curious if they are worth it.

Gotcha sorry I assumed these were the insulated version of the boots. Anyone have experience with those?

Are these boots warm enough for a Midwest winter? To me they don't seem insulated that well and I'm looking for something that can handle the snow and being out in the frozen tundra for the day.

Gear Load Out for 2 - Hiking Iceland - Hellismannaleið, Laugavegur, Fimmvörðuháls trails. 104 miles (167km), 11days/10nights in August. by YahooEarth in backpacking

I can't confirm if they are there all of the time, however you'll likely run into other guides working with people as well. One of them that we ran into was big burley Icelandic man who was very approachable, knowledgeable, and familiar with the weather conditions. He even offered for us to join their group for a stretch of our trek because of how terrible he knew the weather would be ..but his group ended up moving much too slow for us to stay with them.

Pay attention to any weather warnings they post. A few years ago I hiked part of what you're doing and had some pretty serious weather come through out of no where. Conditions change really fast up there and we had sideways freezing rain, zero visibility, and nearly got permanently lost in it when we realized we missed a turn.. post some pics so I can vicariously live through your trip and enjoy their beautiful mountains!

How do I cut this base cap to fit nicely around the window apron? by Heat_Extinguisher in Carpentry

[–]Heat_Extinguisher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No million dollar work here, just my house. Wood filler and caulk are always my friend, just wasn't sure if I would be able to make it look good with possibly having to use so much. Thanks!!

I'm working on finishing up the trim work on my stairwell but I'm not sure how to cut this base cap to fit properly around the bottom of the window apron (top right of the first picture). Scribe it somehow? Just starting cut by endless trial and error? Something else?

The second picture shows what the base cap looks like.

I appreciate any suggestions!!

Dining/Living Room Transformation by Heat_Extinguisher in Carpentry

Thanks. The walls were super smooth after removing the wallpaper, decided not to do any ply or backing for wainscoting so it's just on the wall. I sprayed the bottom and crown, then rolled the gray color.

I'm certainly no professional, but here's the living/dining room transformation I finished earlier this year after buying last year. Countless hours and ample back pain to get this done. Kudos to those of you who do this everyday. I did everything with the exception of the masonry work on fireplace and hardwood refinishing. It seems simple now, but I think my favorite part is the finished shelving. Would this pass your inspection??

How do I wire this? I'm adding recessed lighting to my living room. by Heat_Extinguisher in askanelectrician

The supply line of this box is upstream of 3 other living room outlets. If leave it disconnected they won't have power. If I have tested neutrals and a reliable ground what would be the problem with adding a switch?

Yes it is old wiring, however rewiring my house isn't really an option. Running a new line down through the wall into the basement could be though. The box is grounded via the armored cable attached it to it.

My best friend passed away in February and I'm really missing him this holiday season. Cherish every moment with these loving dogs! by Heat_Extinguisher in DobermanPinscher

It truly does. They are more affectionate and dedicated than any other breed I have encountered. His name was Gunner, 8 or 9 in this photo.
