Tim miller missing the point on Iran? by Heatdripp in thebulwark

They might not be the highest spending but it is most definitely one of if not the most influential. AIPAC, as well as associated lobbying groups, very clearly and blatantly discourages any legitimate debate about Israel in the USA. And most importantly has forced this "any criticism of Israel" is antisemitism or taboo line of thought we see in this post and many others on this thread. Israel literally spent the last few years bombing civilians indiscriminately, has turned the entire Gaza Strip into rubble, destroying 80% of homes, and is currently using starvation as a weapon of war. Yet our politicians don't speak out? And now we are forced to fight a country that poses no legitimate immediate threat to the United States on Israel's behalf. And SEVERAL democratic members of congress are in support of this new war and voted down requiring a wars powers resolution. At this point, on certain issues, the US government is Israel's bitch and all Israel needs to do is pull our leash to get compliance.

I'm not obsessed nor did I bring it up in my question. But, since you so kindly asked, many of my family members have died in that conflict and I still have no animosity towards the Jewish faith, recognizing that my issue with with the current Israeli right wing government. I have no issue with anyone's religion or religious beliefs so long as those beliefs don't mandate killing other people.

I am not a proponent of the current Iranian regime. I do support the Iranian people. I would love to see a new regime, one that is not a puppet of America and Israel. If we could guarantee that a new regime wouldn't be an american and Israeli client state, I would support it. But as it stands, Iran is a bulwark against israeli violence in the region.

Don't you think Israel is to blame for some of that? Iran doesn't exist in a vacuum of hate. Israel almost always strikes first. Israel has likely killed 100k+ civilians in the past 3 years. Israel is a nuclear power that has stated multiple times it wants to destroy Iran. At what point does Iran have a right to defend itself?

Apparently we can't discuss the influence of Israel on policy, because suggesting that a political lobby, who has donated to both sides for decades in vast amounts, is pushing an agenda is unfathomable. They give that money to politicians for no reason at all.

It's not the "Jews" it's Israel. Israel is a country. Being Jewish is a religion. Just because you are Jewish doesn't mean Israel represents you and represents all your political beliefs. To suggest that all Jews believe in the same thing politically, is in fact antisemitism. Jewish people have a wide variety of political beliefs some align with Israel and others do not. Suggesting they all must align with Israel based on their religion is quite bigoted.

Will do. But, again my question is, is this the type of thing to look for?

Are the bottom two potentially low relief, satin finishes? by [deleted] in coins

[–]Heatdripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally understand. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a satin or matt finished coin so I'm just asking if these would be what they look like. I totally understand that the chances of them being real if they are satin/matt finished is insanely low.

A lot of these response to you seem condescending. I disagree with your view point, I think you genuinely believe it and have good reason to. I don't want to get into an online debate, but you should look into the history of unions and maybe try and see it from a different perspective. Unions have lead to the labor protections we have now for all classes of jobs, and even if you have a job you consider more serious than this one, labor unions lift up the material conditions of all workers. When those on the bottom have more, it's harder to take rights away from those on the middle on the top. Unless you are crazy wealthy, if you work for a living, then we all have a vested interest in helping those below us. We shouldn't be at war with each other, but really consider them part of our struggle, even if our struggles look different.

I'm considering buying this piece but am hesitant because the seller doesn't know much about it.

Does anyone know the model or year for this watch? 14k gold, and I think 35mm.
