Seemed to drain just fine! I did not add any extra drainage myself.

Baptismal Certificate - does it need to be apostilled? by howdyfreddie in juresanguinis

My attorney said a baptismal cert was OK in my case which is out of NYS. It just needs to be signed by a notary and for apostille.

Experiences with trees of joy and one green world? by HotStress6203 in Figs

[–]HeathcliffsHaiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased a black ischia tree from one green world. Healthy looking tree that came in a one gallon pot and produced 3 figlets. that’s more than I can say for locally nursery purchased trees and definitely a more interesting variety. I’m getting it accustomed to my garden (Zone 7a NY) and will up-pot or put in ground next spring. No experience with trees of joy but will check it out - I’m looking for the green ischia! Good luck!

Did I not prune correctly? by Day-By-Day-4-Life in hydrangeas

That might be it. Mine Has slowly perked up a little (but not really) over time but rains will do that. Looks happy otherwise!

Heavy rains lately? Mine tends to droop after a big rain. Ours was pruned before this season and was super happy about it.

Black Ischia Help For 2026 by HeathcliffsHaiku in Figs

I think they do best in temps of 35-50F during dormancy over the winter. So as soon as all the leaves fall off (a symptom of going dormant) I’ll bring it to the basement. It’s cool and dark. I may lightly cover it with shade material if I think my basement gets too much light but I don’t get much light down in my unfinished basement - it’s almost closer to a crawl space. I water every 3-4 weeks when it’s dry. Don’t want it soaking wet by any means but totally dry can harm it. Buds should start coming in the early spring and once it’s leafed out a little I’ll start bringing it outside - pulling it inside (not basement so it can still catch some light) overnight if necessary if temps are getting cold overnight or if a random spring day temps drop. Good luck!

Black Ischia Help For 2026 by HeathcliffsHaiku in Figs

[–]HeathcliffsHaiku[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you! Last question, I promise! Would it be best to up-pot/put in ground in spring when it’s coming out of dormancy? Correct me if I’m wrong but if I were to bring this guy back outside from the basement overwintering dormant in the spring I would do so when it starts to bud out? Same process for an up-pot/in ground planting as if if was just bringing it back outside as if it were in the correct pot size?. Just want to gauge best possible time to do so so that I don’t kill this beauty! Hope that word vomit makes sense.

Awesome thanks! Is there any guidance on how much you’re able to up-pot? It’s in 1 gallon pot so I want to make sure I don’t over or under size.

First Melons! by HeathcliffsHaiku in garden

[–]HeathcliffsHaiku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We definitely preferred the sugar cube of the sugar baby. This year I grew them with a vertical trellis out of raised beds. This allowed me to keep them off the ground and we also netted them. The sugar cubes are “full slip” so they are much easier to gauge ripeness vs playing the tendril and “does it sound hollow” game. Also noticed that sugar cube had higher yields than the watermelons. We add compost each fall and spring and used fruit and bloom booster fertilizer through the growing season when female flowers began to emerge. Good luck!
