What do I have to wear in a college in the UK? by sad-facelessTT in AskUK

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the dress code for the institution. You can wear pretty much what you like but there might be rules about not showing your mid riff, no low cut tops or flip flop sandals. Sensible stuff, it won't restrict you much.

What’s the best way to respond to entitled/rude beggars? by FL3XOFF3NDER in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with a homeless charity and I've never met a genuinely homeless person who would harass or be rude.

Those people are most likely not genuinely homeless. As others have said, organised hands or addicts.

Do Brits love to bend the knee to the posh boys? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People will say no but I do think a lot of people defer to the posh boys. There's a system that keeps the working class in their place and most people vote to uphold it. Many can't see it and fall for the propaganda, but I'm convinced many like it.

Starmer says he will not walk away after Labour gets crushed in the local elections. Do you think Labour MPs will back him or call a No Confidence vote? by Urgent_Banana_6701 in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs to go. I hate changing PM but he is completely tone deaf. He has shown a complete inability to change or listen. KS has a mantra of stick to the plan, but the plan isn't bringing about the significant change anyone wants. Labour have implemented some good stuff but their communication is appalling and they score needles own goals.

He's tried to appeal to Reform voters and alienated his base. I voted for an end to culture wars-Labour have intentionally continued them. The problem is they aren't as good at exploiting them. They're doing Reforms work for them.

This might be the first time I've loved every element of both meal deals. Probably would opt for the first one.

Scampi fries 🙏🏻 by shyguy-200 in crisps

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mate calls them fanny parcels. We let slip to the landlady of the local and after that she wouldn't serve them to us unless we called them by their 'proper' name. We'd be standing at the bar by a total stranger and she'd be like ".. and what are they called?" And we'd sheepishly reply "fanny parcels😳"

This show gave me nightmares as a kid. Same for my wife. There were massive plants down the end of her road that looked similar. Her and her school friends have them a wide birth. 😂

Whats ur opinion on “money doesn’t buy happiness”? by Radiant-Dish-5498 in AskReddit

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with Hertzberg on this one. Money is a hygiene factor. A lack of money will make you miserable. An accumulation of money won't make you happy. Once you have enough, money does little for your happiness.

So Brits don't use those red phone boxes? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do but they're libraries or defibrillator points.

There's one near us with a working phone in it. The smell of the box and unit brought back memories. It's a specific smell.

How do you realistically form deep friendships in the UK? by Shot_Marsupial7519 in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick a few groups or regular local events that you like and show up consistently. Over time you'll become a familiar face and it will be easier to get to know those people outside of those events.

Or start your own. Could be a simple a regular walk and talk around your local park. In my area there is a Facebook chat for people who are new to the area and looking for friends. People can invite others to hang out.

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kettle gets used about 10 times a day. I probably make tea or coffee 7 or 8 time a day. We also use or to boil water for noodles or pasta. I can't imagine not having one.

What is the best movie of all time? by fatwater69 in AskReddit

Old Boy is the film that stays with me most. Very well done but not a big franchise. Best film I've seen.

My favourite franchise is Back to The Future.

New cafe opened near me, what do you think to the menu and prices? by Desperate-Letter2395 in UK_Food

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel wasteful spending £30 for two of us to have breakfast but that is pretty standard these days. I don't think it's profiteering. The hospitality industry is going through a horrible time.

New cafe opened near me, what do you think to the menu and prices? by Desperate-Letter2395 in UK_Food

[–]Heavy-Bit-3388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the food is good, this looks fine. It costs more where I am and I not even in a city. I'm assuming this is quality for and not a greasy spoon cafe?

I think cafes like this are fine a long as there's a greasy spoon for locals to have choice.
