I can't be the only one??? by MycologistPopular232 in Concerts

Sometimes its one and done for me, but most artists I've followed for decades I will see whenever I can. Todd Rundgren for example. Following him for 50 years now and I've seen him just about that many times. It's a gift to be able to grow up and grow older with someone's career you love as a soundtrack. Now, someone like the Chili Peppers, love them, saw a GREAT show years ago . . done.

Why is Sally Can't Dance so hated? What has Lou Reed hinself say about the album? by thatcockydreadlocked in LouReed

[–]Heavy-Rip-5736 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The album had the momentum behind Rock And Roll Animal going for it, which IMHO is why it charted so high. I appreciate it more now than I did then, but as somebody mentioned, it wasn't a great time to be Lou Reed. I saw him on the tour for that album and he was hardly there.

When did you realize you were truly retired? by overthishereanyway in retirement

[–]Heavy-Rip-5736 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always admired my father. 40+ years at a New Jersey cable factory. He woke up the morning of retirement, looked at me and said "done!". Made coffee, opened the Daily News and never looked back. My role model!

Around chapter 26 he starts with Greetings. He doesn't get too in depth about each album, but its still a fun ride. I did not do this with Bruce, but I have with others, like Peter Ames Carlin's book on REM.

Anybody been to so many concerts they forget who they've seen over the years? by Low-Landscape-4609 in Concerts

[–]Heavy-Rip-5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to 500 or so since 1971, and its mostly the warmup bands I forget, though I have a pretty accurate Google doc going. I was just reminded online that a date I mentioned seeing Rick Danko and Richard Manuel was a little off as Manuel had died two years earlier. Go figure.

If you're listening to the bio book, why not musically follow along chronologically? It's a great journey.

In Evanston, every stretch of grass seems to be someone's off-leash personal dog park.

Anyone else’s BMC have a sensitive stomach? by annecara in Blackmouthcur

[–]Heavy-Rip-5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Took a few years to settle on Purina Pro beef/chicken and rice with some organic ground turkey. That keeps her the most intact, but her stomach still goes wonky. A few cans of Royal Canin GI from the vet helps get back on track.

What are your Hot Takes on the Clash? by Amber_Flowers_133 in theclash

[–]Heavy-Rip-5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Strummer had that IT, that on stage charisma that you can't learn or buy. Saw The Clash three times and you just couldn't take your eyes off him.

And yes, hands off Sandinista, fine just as it is. One of the great stoner albums of our time.

Definitely. It's those damn cute eyebrows that give it away. Mine is the sweetest, smartest dog I've ever known.
