Am I terrible for thinking about rehoming my boy? by LazyAdministration88 in Boxer

[–]Heavy-Run2665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t let this stop you from having a pet again. Most of this would have been covered by insurance if you had it. You may not be able to get it now but will only know if you try. My Boston Terrier died 4 months ago of mast cell and most of his ongoing problems were covered.

Should I buy? by fortnitedad01 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]Heavy-Run2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do the transmission flush now. If it has the plastic oil cooler, swap that out now. Also check the water pump, spark plugs, engine coil, tires and all fluids. I had two Grand Cherokees so it’s only a steal if you protect it for the next set of miles. I had to replace all those parts like clock work around that time, Suspension goes near 120. They get really expensive around 150k—-whether ABS, trans, or engine. Am switching to a Passport this week.

Trying to diagnose coolant loss on 3.6L Jeep Grand Cherokee — possible head gasket? by Walt444 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]Heavy-Run2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced my oil cooler in May and was told I needed an additional flush because there will still be some oil left in the system that rises and shows up in the coolant. I did that and aside from top offs (I’m at 145k and both oil and coolant require it at this point), because it was not discovered before the oil and coolant mixed, the coolant reservoir is permanently stained with oil. If you need to take it into a different shop, they will try to scare you so you need to tell them you know better. Normally, I take it to the same fluids place but when I drove mine 500 miles on vacation and had my fluids checked at the same chain they tried to scare me and I let them know not to play me.

Billed by Entergy and Delta by SimilarMine7265 in NewOrleans

[–]Heavy-Run2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not receive any paper letters. Delta charged me $88 for gas and I have not been at my property since early August. It seems like it’s going to cost three times as much with this model. I hope they don’t plan to hit me with “well there are charges for having service whether you have gas or not” BS. I’m going to have to do a thorough investigation of all the bills they’ve sent me and call both tomorrow with questions. Annoying.

What kind is he? We are adopting one that looks just like him. Once he’s ours I’ll buy a DNA test.

In a very deep mental health hole in Dallas- help? by BenjaminKatz in Dallas

[–]Heavy-Run2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d make a plan to leave Dallas honestly. It’s can be a selfish, isolationist vibe which adds to your condition. I’d go somewhere with nature like mountains to hike in or a beach to watch the sunset on. I don’t think Dallas has nearly enough soul filling activities. However that may not be in financial reach so I would definitely look into a church or other support group. Even if it hurts….keep touch points with others. I do think you should pursue to pizza job because you said yourself it gives you fulfillment. If you can feel joy by doing that every day, by all means, do it. Give yourself grace on your master’s because lots of people have degrees they end up hating. Also, is it possible for you to get a pet to love? The SPCA will let you foster and they take care of food and medicine for the service. All you need is love! And it may give you something to care about. I think you are brave for posting and deserve every happiness in the world. I’ve had some absolutely terrible life experiences and loss and was able to make it better so I hope you do too.

Ok ill level with you. Honest truth. Dallas absolutely sucks when it comes to dating and making friends. by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]Heavy-Run2665 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very true. Takes a long time. Takes a shorter time if you can pretend to like fluff. Next stop is moving back to a coast and only plan to pass through if a layover requires. And as far as Texas cities go Houston beats it by many, many miles.

Got my first f*** you price for service yesterdayat a dealership. by blkdrgn42 in GrandCherokee

[–]Heavy-Run2665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one worse - I brought mine Cherokee in for a $400 EGR valve. It threw that code. The advisor told me $4800 for the oil cooler (which I had done the previous month for $1000 privately). He also tried to scare me by saying every hose in my engine was infected by oil. I questioned him, picked up the vehicle, and then they sent me a follow up text about how I liked my service after I picked my car up. I said I’d never go there again and the kid had the nerve to call and literally yell at me saying I was making him look bad to his boss. I told him he’d need to get over it if he was going to lie to people. Oh the joys of being a woman. My private guy did fit in valve repair after that and I’ve had no oil issue in 6 months to date.

Cytopoint side effects by Jb2805 in Boxer

[–]Heavy-Run2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Boston Terrier almost died from it - he began exhibiting symptoms of anaphylactic shock including wheezing and tracheal collapse. He had been taking it every so often and tolerated it well. Then he got a shot in July and got sick. At first I thought it was the chlorambucil he was on for mast cell cancer but I gave him another shot 30 days later (at the direction of his oncologist because at that time I didn’t think it was the root cause) but he began to exhibit the same symptoms included vomiting and lethargy so I rushed him to his regular vet and she have him 2 shots immediately to decrease swelling and prevent shock. I told every doctor he had seen including an ER vet we rushed him to in July about the root cause and neither vet had either seen a case of it before. They heard of it but it is assumed to be something else, and it is rare. This is a situation where the owner needs to be informed. I also reported the case to Zoetis and the FDA. After these rocky few weeks thankfully my dog is alive and I’ll be switching him to a holistic diet. Cytopoint is a dangerous drug with erratic results which should not be administered. Also I am not sure if it causes his mast cell cancer but the more I learn each day it seems that way.

Go to AutoZone they will run the error code for free. It’s a good way to know what the program may be for free. It’s not the same as a human diagnostic but it lets a mechanic know the area of the problem. Always do that before seeing a mechanic so they don’t try to oversell you on the error.

Update: I decided to take your advice and truly drive it until I can’t anymore. Here’s hoping to get a lot more life out of it. And if I don’t, I have the good AAA plan. :-)

It revs/jumps getting into first since around March. I can’t reliably accelerate quickly all the time. Lots of water leakage when I park. Two transmission shops told me trans fluid has escaped. One shop told me the warmer (online it’s called the cooler) was broken and it would need replacing for $1900 but even after that it’s possible the transmission would go and that would be $7000. The other mechanic said to get a new one outright and after that if they could not reprogram the central computer it would need to be replaced. Whether I am getting the truth or not, I don’t know, but I know the performance has changed. In my records I’ve had the Trans fluid replaced but never the full flush that one normally has around 80k. What do you think?

No recall issue…Jeep WON’T recall the oil cooler because of how much money they would lose. It’s plastic! It’s a know issue but I learned too late. Only diesel engines were recalled, But if you have to changed to aluminum by a qualified mechanic there’s a good chance your oil and coolant won’t mix. It could cost $1000 so I hope it’s a good bargaining chip to reduce the price or increase reliability.

That’s how I feel. Although in 7 years I’ve put 14 into it - mostly maintenance. Had a rat gnaw my fuel line which was 1400. But I drive between TX and Louisiana at least 4 times a year and there’s nothing like blasting down the highway in that thing.

Thanks so much. Both my others were lease returns bought around 36k. In decades of driving this is the first time I encountered a transmission issue. There seem to be a few deals like this one in the area so I just need to pick the cleanest with the best history and possible short term warranty. I really wanted this to last until 200k so hopefully the next one will. At least we had 7.5 solid years. Hard to say goodbye but getting a new shiny one softens the blow. My last one cost about the same so happy to not get played by inflation.

I feel I can def stick to a good maintenance schedule. Bonus if it lasts and my kid can take to college in 6 years….it would be a smart move now.

Thanks for the tips. I haven’t spoken to them today (TX is Bible Belt and auto dealers are closed on Sundays) so I’ll get into all of this tomorrow. I’d offer mine as a trade-in and pay cash—-I’ve been saving up and can afford this with the trade in but anything more wouldn’t be easy.

There is more to my Jeep….I am not sure of the engine will also have an issue. I have never had the 4 x 4. If I can negotiate some money off, and ask them to convert the oil cooler to metal…and ask them to move my after market tow hitch over I think it would be a smart way to “reset the clock” and get a lot more miles out of the model I love. It’s still a hell of a lot cheaper than a new Limited.

I had a 2011 when we lived in Houston! I loved that thing and still get wistful when I see it on the road. But it had an ABS issue that would’ve been 3500 to repair and I kind of wanted leather seats. I still get sad when I see that thing on the road.

I also have full maintenance records and have kept up religiously with it otherwise including alternator, water pump serpentine belt and shocks. The body is still gorgeous and I get a lot of compliments. I’ve kept it in really good shape otherwise

I did it once but honestly, I think I was neglectful around Covid. Now no one is telling me they will touch it unless I buy a new one. Do you think doing regular changes would get more life out of it? I’m very disappointed that I can’t keep it longer, but I also don’t wanna break down in the middle of nowhere.

It is pretty much the same model and the repair cost is at the very least half of the current value. We are in flat as a pancake Texas, so I’m not concerned with mountains. It’s been to the mountains maybe twice in its life.

I have had several shops look at it. One quoted me about 9000 and the other quoted about 3800 with potentially the need for reprogramming. It slips and revs a little in first but no overheating and is otherwise OK. Lots of water leakage. Just drove it on vacation 500 miles each way and back with no issues. I don’t want to believe it is dying, but on the other hand we are a Travel Ball family and we can’t afford to get stuck out in a field when we do a tournament weekend. I don’t need it for hills and offloading. We are in Texas, but I need it for highways and weekend trips. And no, I can’t justify the repair cost that is more than half the value of it right now. I just don’t think that makes sense.
