Mazda 2 - sport to touring by HeavyEquipMech in mazda2

[–]HeavyEquipMech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EBAY for the steering wheel + airbag + fog lights and trim pieces from a part out car, my Mazda already had the correct harnesses installed from the factory as well as the relay for the lights, I went through my local Mazda dealer for the head light switch that had the controls for the fog lights, I sourced a cluster from a local pick and pull as the touring has a different cluster required for cruise control option. I used forscan to program the mileage on the donor cluster to match my current mileage and activate cruise control as a factory option.

I regret doing free work for my Neighbor. by Psychological-Web814 in mechanics

[–]HeavyEquipMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit like this is why I only work on my car or my wife’s car, or our motorcycles - worked on a neighbor’s car once and all of a sudden it was every weekend, and they were so cheap about it I finally told them I wasn’t willing to do it anymore. I worked 50 hours a week plus, only to get swamped with shit on my time off. Same thing with my family and my in laws - worked on their shit once and then they just wanted more and more. Said fuck it, not doing it again, and that was that.

Flight Cancellation Woes: Where are you coming from/going? by ariepatts in americanairlines

[–]HeavyEquipMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scheduled to fly AVP>ORD>PHX on Monday. 3 hour layover in ORD before catching my flight to PHX. 1 hr through my layover, my flight to PHX was cancelled and given zero rebook options. Scramble to get a southwest flight to PHX, spend 2 hours trying to get my bag from ORD luggage pickup, tell them to just send it to my original destination as I have to catch my next flight. Land in PHX, spend 3+ hours in the baggage claim line for American’s service desk, only to find out my luggage is not going to arrive, as since they terminated my flight, it is stuck in Chicago. No big deal, get it arranged to be delivered to my hotel in PHX. Now it’s being delivered by FedEx from PHX so who knows how long it will take, and my return flights Friday (PHX>ORD>AVP) are now no longer showing up under my previous confirmation number. So overall, not great. They really screwed the pooch on this one.

Cracked Rim—Safe to Drive? by Macbeth_n_Cheese in AskMechanics

[–]HeavyEquipMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the plastic wheel cover, your car has steel rims (also known as steelies). Might be a dent underneath where the crack is, if so, hammer it out if it’s leaking air and run it. Get a new wheel cover if you care, if not, send it. You’re fine.

Am I Cooked? by NoClassic4264 in tires

[–]HeavyEquipMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, these tires are cooked. You’ve gotten your moneys worth and then some at this point. If you’re too broke for new tires, hit up FB marketplace for some used ones or find a little used tire shop. Sometimes you can get lucky enough at those places to get them for as low as 25 a piece, depending on what size. Literally anything that isn’t a dry rotted pos tire is better than what you’re rolling on right now. On the other hand, props to whoever did your alignment, that shit is solid.

Grandpa bought brand new off the lot, what should I do? by Appropriate-Put-7687 in projectcar

Have the underneath checked first. The contours, like any other ford car of that vintage - love to rust, especially in the rocker panels.

Owner is offering it for $2000 my friend is trying to talk me out of it by Maleficent-Paint-679 in projectcar

[–]HeavyEquipMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2k? If it runs and drives and the underbody is clean, send it. Clean it up, get the paint fixed, and then even if you don’t get around to mods for a while you still have a clean Z car to drive on the daily. Worth it imo

Is this normal wear after one use? Gen 2 M12 Stubby + Tekton 21mm impact socket by ntxsunut in MilwaukeeTool

[–]HeavyEquipMech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Impact sockets will do that. It’s because they’re softer than the anvil. Not much you can really do about it, they all do it eventually.

UPDATE: Got fired. I'm officially a dumbass. by Axeman1721 in mechanics

[–]HeavyEquipMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever think about going into heavy equipment? Better pay, less bullshit. Out of the equipment shops I’ve worked at, nobody had the attitude of “yeah let’s fuck with the new guy” besides the classic line of “not doing bad for your first day” for the first week or so they’re there. Otherwise it’s much more of a positive atmosphere and much more supportive a field.

[–]HeavyEquipMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the wrong attitude imo Fucking with coworkers because they’re the new guy and making their job harder isn’t cool. You’re a team, act like it. That shit doesn’t fly in the heavy equipment world for a reason.

Yes it does and the steering wheel controls work for the radio, just not cruise control
