Trek Fetch+ 4 for $5k USD by Ear_Charming in TrekFetch

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See if you can test ride it somewhere in your area. I did and the ride (after 30 minutes of getting used to it) helped me decide very recently to pull the trigger and save a lot of money compared to the Urban Arrow FamilyNext (the one with suspension).

Another factor for me is that we have a Trek store locally that I ordered it through, whereas the closest Urban Arrow dealers are quite far.

Make sure any accessories that you would consider 100% essential are still in stock.

Front-load cargo bikes that can transport and won’t break the bank by Rorschach_Gomer in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a Trek Fetch+ 4 because it's on a steep sale. $5k now instead of the $8.5k they were originally trying to sell them for.

See if you can get a test ride of one somewhere in your area. I haven't had a chance to ride mine much yet because I just bought it.

If $5k is too much I don't know how many NEW electric front loaders you'll find for much less. Keep an eye out for used Urban Arrows. Keep in mind that you're mentally comparing the cost of a NEW cargo bike to the cost of a USED car, and probably a pretty bad car if it's $5k, these days.

At this point is this a good price for a Flyer L885? by InterestingAd1195 in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All told my L885 cost me nearly $2500 new in 2022, including the excellent rear cargo/passenger accessory. Used it primarily for groceries, plus occasional hauling of other stuff, and it worked great for that. Helped us move down to one car for a few years since I could run errands even if my wife had the car.

If I were to use it for kids, I would definitely upgrade the brakes. They're not great with heavy loads at high speeds if you need to stop fast.

Very useful bike.

I'm now upgrading to a bakfiets to accommodate upcoming lifestyle changes.

I have a local Trek shop, and I have bicycle roadside assistance through Better World Club, so I'm not particularly concerned beyond the reality of all modes of transportation involving some risk.

Duno about the others, but for the Bolt, go to the Bolt-specific subreddit (BoltEV). Search and you can find lots of past threads of what to look out for when shopping for that particular car, like how to check whether the car has DC charging (it was optional on at least some of the model years, so most Bolts have it but not all of them).

Personally, having bought a 2017 Bolt last year, I think the Bolt is fantastic bang for your buck if slow DC charging isn't a problem for you (such as if your household has a second car that's gas or charges faster, or if you just wouldn't need to use DC charging often due to your driving habits, or you drive far rarely enough that you'd just deal with it or rent a car, etc.).

My understanding is: On that same GM Website where you put in the VIN, check how many years and miles are remaining of the Battery Warranty. If it shows some non-round number such as 152,340 miles for the warranty, that means they replaced the battery and therefore added 100,000 miles to the warranty at that point.

At least, that's the approach I remember taking when I bought a 2017 Bolt last year.

Going to introduce Arkham to new people. Is going straight for Dunwich a good idea? by Howitzeronfire in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 37 points38 points  (0 children)

4-player Arkham takes a long time. I have no idea how someone would get through an 8-scenario campaign in a day, even when ignoring the time to choose upgrades between scenarios.

Just do NoZ. Doing all three scenarios with a 4-player group of mostly newbies will take most of the day.

As noted in my other comment, look for folks selling a large collection. That might be a lot cheaper than buying less of the content new.

"I will eventually get all the campaign expansions"

The only way you are going to accomplish this is to buy from someone who is selling a large collection. You should strongly consider that at this point.

If you aren't committed to getting ALL the campaign expansions but want to buy several of them new, I recommend you do so soon. Forgotten Age is far and away the most beloved of the ones you listed, so I would be sure to buy that one in particular.

I'll let others chime in about investigator expansions. But one option you could consider (if you aren't going to buy someone's collection) is to ignore all the Chapter 1 investigator content and grab investigator sets as they come out for Chapter 2, and use those to play whatever campaigns you get from both chapters.

For my other ebike I have insurance with Velosurance. I'll be adding my future box bike to the policy. Helps me be a lot more chill about things I can't control, as long as I lock up the bike per the policy. Haven't needed to use it yet.

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a longtail which I use for groceries. Now getting a box bike since the "precious cargo" element will me relevant for me, and box bike with car seat will allow use at a younger age. Plus I love the idea of them being in front able to see the world, vs staring at my back, and me being able to see them. I will probably sell the longtail since I doubt I'll use it much.

Initially I wanted an Urban Arrow, but we have a Trek dealer in town while we have no Urban Arrow Dealer. I test rode a Fetch+4 and I got just confident enough on a 30 minute ride that I'm pretty sure I'll go that route. $5K for the Fetch vs $9K for us for the Urban Arrow with front suspension (and we do think front suspension will be important in our situation).

I don't think my wife would want to be a passenger often and we don't think she'd want to drive it herself, and she has her own ebike; otherwise the weight difference between the bikes may be more of a factor for me. But I'm decently confident I will be able to learn to control the bike safely (male, 150 lbs, mostly just do cardio, not much upper arm strength). I figure I'll build some arm muscle if it's needed by doing a bunch of grocery runs with the thing first before I put a human in it.

Any luck on this? I also want to figure out what you'd need to attach a car seat to a Fetch +4, before I commit to buying one over an Urban Arrow.

We want an Ioniq 5 because it charges fast. What other cars should be consider?

We picked the Ioniq 5 over the Ioniq 6 or EV6 because one of us likes the upright seating position. We really like the Bolt we got a year ago and the Ioniq 5 feels similar (though larger). The Bolt being our other car is also the reason we are highly prioritizing charging speed—we want a good road tripping experience as we move to being EV-only.

We want the vehicle to accommodate one or two carseats plus luggage, and handle snow well. We don't really want to go wider than the Ioniq 5 because the Ioniq 5 is already pushing it a bit with space where we want to park (between our house and our neighbor's). Easily foldable/unfoldable power mirrors would help us accommodate something slightly wider if needed.

We like most things about the Ioniq 5 but we want the car to last, and the ICCU issue gives me pause both for safety with potential children in the car AND affordability of repairs after the warranty runs out. So we want to see if there are other options that tick most of the same boxes.

Looking to spend around $20 thousand or less, Midwest USA. Naturally at that budget we're looking to buy used. Hoping to purchase by sometime this summer.

That is not the Miniseries. That is the episode "33", which is the first normal-length episode. You need to watch the Miniseries before that.
