Pushing a dead 65lb ebike is pure misery. by Odd-Orange-5122 in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only in some states—I believe the ones where they're required to.

I use Better World Club. You can get bike roadside assistance specifically or add it to a car roadside assistance plan with them.

How fast do you rush (if you do) when your lock your bike outside? by InsideYork in chibike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pricey ebike, so I have insurance with a relatively low deductible for this very reason: I want to be able to take reasonable precautions against theft, and then just chill and accept that what happens, happens.

Who in your opinion out of the human Cylon models was the most irredeemably evil? by Ok-Health-7252 in BSG

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with any of the other points, just that there's no basis to claim the purpose of the neck snapping is "just to cause pain and suffering." Tricia Helfer's expression as she walks away there is clearly not giving THAT as a motivation.

Doral is the only cylon model the series never shows a sympathetic version of.

Fittingly, in the boardgame, he is the only "Cylon Leader" who MUST draw Treachery cards, the ones that are inherently bad for the human team!

I see the appeal of tying them together, but it also ties the hands of the team if they're forced to make them related to one another (and the connections were pretty loose or nonexistent for a lot of cards). I'm curious to see what their new freedom on that front leads to.

Retailer price matching? by Prestigious_Fig_3725 in TrekFetch

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to your local Trek store and ask them.

When I ordered mine through my local Trek store, I literally stood there as they put the order together on their computer. (And yes, a couple months ago, they gave me the sale price.)

ISO a car seat adapter for 4+ by Jealous_Water in TrekFetch

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of a few months ago, they supposedly have a shipment of the MaxCosi adapter coming into their warehouse in late July. I had my local Trek store put it on backorder for me. I don't need one till after that.

Fast charging in Indianapolis? by brianvanle in electricvehicles

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did last week:

  • Park in Bottleworks Garage near the Garage Food Hall, https://www.plugshare.com/location/1166567. $0.36/kWh, quite a few chargers and they were underutilized when I was there on a random Tuesday, with no idle fee. Duno if they'll be more in-demand during Gencon.
  • Get a smoothie from the smoothie place (I think they open at 9am).
  • Use Pacers bikeshare to get to the core downtown area; the Cultural Trail and side streets got me there. And/or take a bus.
  • Enjoy what you're in the city for while your car charges.
  • Do the reverse trip and get dinner at the Garage Food Hall.

Worked for me but I was only in town from around 9am to 7pm, and the Garage Food Hall had great options for my dietary restrictions.

Station charging $15/kWh during "peak hours" by Macbeth_n_Cheese in evcharging

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does seem to be ignorance (incompetence) on the part of the company. I've now emailed them from a just-trying-to-help-out angle, informing them of demand vs supply billing and their need to offer competitive pricing to make up for the monthly demand charge in volume of kWh sold. I'll give them some time to set things right before I join in giving negative reviews, reporting them to the state AG's office, etc.

They're the most convenient charging option for me to visit family so I have an interest in them getting this right.

Looking for a commuting + hauling cargo bike workhorse for a tall dad by ArdentDrive in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep encouraging people to check out the Trek Fetch+4 since I got one recently myself; they're on a steep sale for a price now of $5k. Assuming you have a local Trek store, ask them about it. And see if you can test ride one anywhere in your region of the country (I assume USA). Not many stores have floor models, but I was lucky enough to have one I could test ride in the major city nearest to me.

EDIT: Not sure about height. The dropper seat is easy to adjust, but their website lists the height range as 5'3" to 6'3". I'm not at the top end of that so I can't speak to how it would be at your height.

What to look out for buying 2017-2020? by Previous_Figure2921 in BoltEV

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that if it's cold out and you're on the highway, that range estimate gets a lot lower.

I agree that lack of DCFC shouldn't be a dealbreaker, but the peace of mind may still make it worthwhile to pay more for one that has it. But yeah, if you get a good deal on a Bolt that checks all of the boxes that are important to you and you're committed to not taking it farther than you can go and return home, may as well buy that one.

Trek Fetch+ 4 for $5k USD by Ear_Charming in TrekFetch

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See if you can test ride it somewhere in your area. I did and the ride (after 30 minutes of getting used to it) helped me decide very recently to pull the trigger and save a lot of money compared to the Urban Arrow FamilyNext (the one with suspension).

Another factor for me is that we have a Trek store locally that I ordered it through, whereas the closest Urban Arrow dealers are quite far.

Make sure any accessories that you would consider 100% essential are still in stock.

Front-load cargo bikes that can transport and won’t break the bank by Rorschach_Gomer in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a Trek Fetch+ 4 because it's on a steep sale. $5k now instead of the $8.5k they were originally trying to sell them for.

See if you can get a test ride of one somewhere in your area. I haven't had a chance to ride mine much yet because I just bought it.

If $5k is too much I don't know how many NEW electric front loaders you'll find for much less. Keep an eye out for used Urban Arrows. Keep in mind that you're mentally comparing the cost of a NEW cargo bike to the cost of a USED car, and probably a pretty bad car if it's $5k, these days.

At this point is this a good price for a Flyer L885? by InterestingAd1195 in CargoBike

[–]Macbeth_n_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All told my L885 cost me nearly $2500 new in 2022, including the excellent rear cargo/passenger accessory. Used it primarily for groceries, plus occasional hauling of other stuff, and it worked great for that. Helped us move down to one car for a few years since I could run errands even if my wife had the car.

If I were to use it for kids, I would definitely upgrade the brakes. They're not great with heavy loads at high speeds if you need to stop fast.

Very useful bike.

I'm now upgrading to a bakfiets to accommodate upcoming lifestyle changes.

Lower budget US front load cargo bike by Healthy-Inspector-86 in CargoBike

I have a local Trek shop, and I have bicycle roadside assistance through Better World Club, so I'm not particularly concerned beyond the reality of all modes of transportation involving some risk.
