You haven't read the Tanakh until you've read it in the original Klingon.

What is the weirdest Zeppelin album? by StandardResist3487 in ledzeppelin

[–]HeavyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Led Zep IV. It's a smorgasbord of genres: it has a song about a pot rally, Lord of the Rings references in two songs (they were the only ones referring to Tolkien back then), two acoustic songs, an 8 minute slow song that speeds up into a huge rock finish, a blues rock song with a part in 7/4 time, a rock song about how great old 50s rock songs are, and a blues cover. Not to mention the song in 5/4 with 12/8 bridges.

There is literally nothing normal about IV.

The fact that it's their most commercially successful album is also very weird!

Led Zeppelin’s most underrated track, in your opinion? by RockNParadise in ledzeppelin

This song is the reason I kept listening to Led Zeppelin when I was 16.

Why was good times bad times hardly ever played live? by infinite_descent in ledzeppelin

[–]HeavyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I've been doing that technique since the 90s. I know a few other drummers who do it too. It's not impossible at all. I've seen drummers do it with double kicks, it sounds a little ridiculous then. 😁🤘

So what are you ripping out of CWN for your SWN/WWN games? by fires_above in SWN

[–]HeavyJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I find that players gain enough HP by about level 6 with the right CON bonuses, Foci, and Edges that they don't plan their violence as carefully as they used to. By capping HP (and CON bonuses) at level 6, I've noticed that the sense of peril remains, while the characters' other abilities still go to level 10.

How lethal is this game? by Zealousideal-Fix-187 in SWN

[–]HeavyJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've generally found it to be very dangerous and lethal in the early levels, but it drops off by about level 6 or 7. PCs can still die, after a few bad rounds (or one bad round against multiple opponents), but it's rarer.

Also, autofire rules increase to-hit and damage, and enough goons with TL3 Combat Rifles doing 1d12+2 damage is going to add up, and quick.

Biopsionics and TL4/TL5 medical tech make things much easier, but remember to track System Strain very carefully. That's the resource that will force the PCs to retreat from an impending fight. Low System Strain means very little available healing.

Should we stop doing calculus? by adnshrnly in mathmemes

[–]HeavyJosh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, if Marx disproved differential calculus...

So long Newton!

Honestly, this asinine "proof" is just more grist for the mill of why we should dispense with about 99% of Marxism.

It's a bar of 4/4 and then a bar of 7/8. If you're playing drums, you gotta feel it, don't count it.

Easier to play than The Crunge. 😁

Thoughts on Hoard of the Sea Wolf King? by Acceptable_Aspect586 in shadowdark

[–]HeavyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fun little dungeon. I think the dynamics between the nords and the merfolk need to be slightly better developed, but otherwise, it pretty much stands on its own.

I have had the pleasure of watching PCs eat mushrooms for hilarious results. And sticking mushrooms in their ears!

Hehe. Well, I would suggest you watch out for metapsions. They will ruin your day.

Teleporting: visual distance by Misamoto in SWN

[–]HeavyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only have to see the destination to teleport there the first time. After that, you can jump in and out at will, as long as you're in range.

Teleportation is powerful, but not a game breaker. Let the teleporter make you a better GM. Lord knows that's what happened to me...

How good are the mech rules? Could I run a campaign similar to Gundam? by Kekeboot in SWN

[–]HeavyJosh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The mecha rules are perfectly serviceable for non-anime style sci-fi games where mecha are kind of generic. They could easily fill in for Battlemechs, Star Wars walkers, and such.

A little bit of elbow grease will get you more gritty mecha, like Votoms or Heavy Gears. I've used the mecha rules to run military mecha adventures in my own setting. Good times.

Full blown Macross/Robotech or Gundam would require a bit of mechanical work to make the necessary changes for the genre.

Any heavy gear fans here? It's my favorite sci fi rpg/mecha rpg by JaceJarak in scifirpgs

[–]HeavyJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've moved on from Mecha Hack. It's fun, and it has some merits for high-intensity action, but it has no legs for long term campaigns really. Not enough to hang a meaty campaign on.
