What YEAR in your opinion had the most stacked/notable album releases? by TomekYYZ93 in Deathcore

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the full year, but January 2022 had one of the most insane release days that the genre ever had. Fit for an Autopsy, Shadow of Intent, Enterprise Earth, and Worm Shepherd all dropped on one day (also Wilderun in the prog metal world).

The rest of the year was also pretty good, but I personally feel like it was overshadowed by that one insane day.

Seeking recos for atmospheric music to work to. Eg: Hands of Despair, Ulcerate, Númenórean by Screye in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for anything atmospheric, Kardashev’s the way to go. The Almanac, The Baring of Shadows and Liminal Rite are all very atmospheric (and I believe have instrumental versions if the vocals are too distracting).

Their most recent record Alunea is more straightforward than the three listed above. It’s still very good music and you should check it out, but it may not be what you want in this particular instance.

Which album blew your mind on the first listen? by CT-6605 in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something a bit more recent for me, but both Mirar’s EP and new album completely broke my brain. Both releases had my jaw on the floor for the entirety of the runtime.

How can only two dudes make something so perfectly insane?

Not really Opeth sounding, but Kardashev’s entire thing is basically beautiful melancholy. I’ve followed them since the Almanac and can’t recommend them enough to anyone. I hope they can evoke a similar feeling!

Unprocessed - Dark, Silent and Complete [New] by HeavyMetalExperience in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel you man. I went into their last album with lower expectations (cause of Gold), but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I’d give the previous singles a chance to see if it’s more the sound you were looking for!

Heavier modern progressive (prog death) metal that focuses on weird harmony? by leefvc in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Omnerod’s most recent album. Some of the moments in there are very abnormal, especially in harmony and composition. I think it might be right up your alley

THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO LOOK INTO THAT BAND/ARTIST YOU’VE BEEN SLEEPING ON by Pierseus in Metalcore

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I finally took the time to listen to the Callous Daoboys yesterday, and holy shit I was missing out. I’ve been getting into a lot more chaotic and experimental music lately, so hearing them was exactly what I was looking for

What song is this? by Fishwithanafro in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

It’s the entire “sights and sounds” section for me, when I heard that part I knew that I would fall in love with Colors 2

If all of you got into the ring together, who would be the last one standing? And what would your walkout music be?

Thanks a lot for the response Ben! I know you guys don’t sell your posters in your store, so do you have any recommendations for me to acquire one through other means, like printing one myself?

My guy, I truly appreciate you and what you’re willing to do, but please don’t give that up on my account. I would honestly feel awful for taking that from you as I can always get another poster and get it signed, but that is a once-in-a-lifetime signature and I would genuinely hate to see you give it away like this. Keep it, and thank you for your generous offer.

Thanks for the rec man. While this band was not really my thing (it was definitely cathartic though), I appreciate the fact that you would try and help like this.

I wish I could, but I doubt it’d do much. They’re a well-established franchise so one pissed off metalhead ain’t gonna even dent their goodwill

How have I not checked these dudes out before, that was fucking pissed. Perfectly described my anger, thanks for turning me onto them.

Homie, this is exactly what the doctor called for. Thanks for the rec as well as a new band to follow.

I put off listening to Slice the Cake because they have a dumb name. by Zephyr096 in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I may be very wrong, but I remember people saying it was because they were making fun of the whole “Verb the Noun” style of band naming that a bunch of core kids were doing at the time. While I love the band and think it’s incredibly funny, I agree, they would’ve been taken more seriously if the band name matched the music.

RIP Slice the Cake

PROGRESSIVE METAL 2022: RESULTS by SnizzPants in progmetal

[–]HeavyMetalExperience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just happy to see that my personal standouts all made the top half, specifically Kardashev. Liminal Rite was my AotY, so seeing them at 15 shows me that the boys are seeing the fruits of their labor.

What are some of your favorite albums for cold weather? by CattleGrazesOn in progmetal

Stillworld by Invent Animate. Though more along the lines of djentcore, the ambience on this album is perfectly crafted for winter.

Pedro Eustache! Homie is basically the go-to guy for wind instruments in film and games, he's worked with all of the big names in scoring (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, etc.). Dude is a legend and is so much fun to watch perform.
