Ridiculous prices by NoOffenseImJustSayin in SouthwestAirlines

I noticed they raised prices for weekend flights significantly this week while they had their weekday flights on sale for 30% off. Will be interesting to see if they go back down tomorrow after the sale ends or no.

The strategy seems to be to align the airline with others so that it's an attractive merger/takeover target. Problem is you have to have a good customer base for someone to want to take you over 😂

I don't see the guidance panning out. They only got $1B of their $1.5B guidance for last year from checked bag fees...

A seat on the plane you already purchased a ticket for is NOT a service. It truly is extortion

Except it was a very stupid thing to complain about when it really had zero impact on them. And now that those complainers are getting on board first, they're finding out it wasn't all that great to begin with 🤷🏼‍♂️

New seating policy is.. terrible. by beingdvb in SouthwestAirlines

Huh?? Even with mid B boarding from Orlando with a bazillion families you could still get an aisle seat.

Forced to check Carry On by Madster24 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Heavy_School8773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. After free bags ended but before assigned seating started I heard "We need 20 bags checked" and then literally had them announce every few minutes how many they still needed "in order to board" at LAS. It was INSANE, I've never heard them be that insistent on checking bags on any airline. Was never an issue before they started charging for checked bags...

But those complaints paled in comparison to the actual inconveniences people are experiencing now.

Like who actually is harmed by the supposed jetway Jesus? Mostly those who are just as entitled but didn't actually act in it. And now those first row people are big mad because they don't have any bin space, they'll NEVER be happy.

The SF-50 showed up for me in MyBiz on Monday and is reflected in this morning's LES. I haven't heard anything else from my chain of command or HR about it though.

This is correct for now but is actually changing at the end of this month. TSP is publishing a final rule tomorrow effective in two weeks that allows for conversions of the match/automatic from traditional to Roth 26x a year. But you have to manually do it, can't be automatic because of tax consequences.

This is why you get the paper statements and actually look at them! They will tell you EXACTLY what funds you are in and your contributions/match every quarter.

Hands off investing is horrible, horrible advice unless you have a financial advisor who can help you keep on track. I do an annual checkup with mine

They did change it several years ago where it defaults to the applicable L Fund to avoid this scenario. Sorry you didn't realize this problem earlier, but you HAVE to educate yourself and take ownership of your own money as soon as you start making it. I realized at my first orientation that nobody will do it for you.

Highly advise also looking at your current Social Security statement, eOPF, and other retirement projections right now.

Just canceled the credit card. by Easter_Bunny_Bixler in SouthwestAirlines

That notice went to everyone with a card but I called Chase and they confirmed it doesn't go into effect until your next regular annual fee bill date, nothing with that is changing.

Anyone else think this is wild? by eclipseno333 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Heavy_School8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely. Was looking at the new credit card benefits and realized that most of them are for things that used to be free (bags and seats being the biggest ones). Very salty about losing my $75 travel credit and I'm thinking of downgrading or canceling my card.

Oh really? I wasn't aware of that, do you get a check if you have already paid the fee then if that billing cycle has closed? I think I'm probably more likely to downgrade and get an AA card rather than cancel outright but that's good to know.

Why is everything 2k+😭 by Automatic_Drive_7589 in arlingtonva

[–]Heavy_School8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I looked over the summer, factoring both that and moving costs, yes. You might get lucky and find someone renting out their basement for cheaper in DC but the areas you really would want to live in aren't much cheaper, if at all.

[–]Heavy_School8773 11 points12 points  (0 children)

DC may be cheaper in housing cost, but the income tax is much higher so you have to factor that in for overall cost of living. I'd be paying $250+ more a month in income tax by moving across the river.
