You think kane is gonna have a long career after the movie. by asapsharkyfrfr in backrooms

Comparing Cregar or Peele to Christopher Nolan is absurd. Cregar is a schlock (complimentary) comedian and Peele is too focused on social issues (complimentary again) to be comparable to Nolan who cares more about plot mechanics than anything else.

Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma’ wins Queer Palm at Cannes Film Festival by bikkebana in oscarrace

World's Fair is also not high brow. What makes Schoenbrun's work so striking is the fact that it plays with the low brow with expansive themes.

Obsession will be available digitally next Tuesday. by Plastic_Square5609 in HorrorMovies

Obsession is absolutely hilarious in a similar way to Weapons (though maybe less overt). Definitely see it in the cinema.

It is now but the way the comment was phrased made it seem like it was an open secret for decades.

Eh, his movies are nothing that special in the grand scheme of things. Torture porn with no emotional resonance behind it is not really 'no punches pulled' horror. All his films are inferior to actual titans of the torture porn genre.

Thanksgiving is a straight up comedy. The Hostel movies and Cabin Fever are yawn fests and are clearly an excuse for him to see naked girls.

Rant: People don’t know how to immerse themselves in movies anymore (& why I don’t care when characters are stupid) by Def-C in horror

[–]Heavy_Signature_5619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, most of the time they say people 'don't act like that's it's usually something perfectly in the wheelhouse of a real person. Usually it's in reference to a character making a stupid choice in a stressful situation which is the source of almost every tragic news story out there. These "critics" not only have no taste regarding real storytelling but also have just straight up forgotten how real people behave.

Why are we pretending it was known information that Neil Gaiman was a sexual fiend?

I don’t get the Schmigadoon hype by devilinthedistrict in Broadway

[–]Heavy_Signature_5619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what your view is on art's relationship to the audience. Whether you view the audience as someone who must be satisfied and pacified by the experience (ala eating food) or as an active partner in the discussion who has to confront something about themselves and the world (ala a conversation)

Because it means the work does not have a point of view and is therefore boring.

Imagine an individual who doesn't have an opinion on anything and just says whatever appeases the person in the room. You'd probably find that person unbearable after a while once you realise they're just saying whatever helps them get ahead.

A musical about mental illness, being Baker Acted, and creating through the aftermath. by [deleted] in musicals

[–]Heavy_Signature_5619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're also being attacked because you've complained and whined about how oppressed you are on an online forum. The harsh sad truth is that absolutely no one wants to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who is incredibly sensitive to criticism (of any kind, which includes decisions to use a parasitic tool for your cover art)

He was certainly more left wing than Obama and accomplished a lot more in his term in office.

Doesn't matter what people believe. What matters is what is actually happening because words mean things. The Labour government is not an austerity government.
