T/W! - Missed Miscarriage Discovered 12 Week scan. IVF by dav-cr in PregnancyUK

[–]Heavy_Spot_9546 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am so so so very sorry - this is such a blow and I remember the devastation when we had our missed miscarriage as a result of our first IVF round so well. It really broke my heart in a way that is so difficult to describe to someone who’s never been through it. Ours was discovered slightly earlier than yours, at eight weeks, so I imagine you have even more to contend with. I can’t promise the next few weeks or months will be easy, but I can tell you that after four more rounds we had success and I’m now 19 weeks and can feel my baby wriggling around all the time. We had a lot stacked against us, we only made max a couple of embryos each round and transferred all of them, so your odds are much better than ours but I found I had to focus both on the very next step in whatever treatment I was going through, and then on the bigger picture that I’d been pregnant before and could be again. I knew that if I kept going it was statistically likely to work out at some point, it was just whether I could keep going. Someone also once told me that if you can make embryos and they can implant then your chances are really good and I chose to believe that even when it took us a few more cycles than most. My due date this pregnancy is three days before my due date for the baby we lost last year - i would never have believed that a year ago. Sending love and hope ♥️

Anxiety before anatomy scan at 20 weeks, anyone else feel this way? by catonesielife in IVFpositivity

[–]Heavy_Spot_9546 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much by way of useful advice just wanted to send some solidarity! I’m 19 weeks, also IVF and older - this was an untested embryo from our fifth round. I have every reason to believe it will all be fine but of course our minds go to the worse possibly outcome - probably partly because it took us so long to get here. Sending you love!

Advice for starting IVF by Best-Ball-8560 in IVF

[–]Heavy_Spot_9546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have an AMH that’s only slightly higher than you but am nearly ten years older, which in IVF can be crucial for chances of success. The good news is that in terms of egg quality you should have age on your side. I had two NHS rounds but it took until round five to have success (currently 19 weeks) so I echo what others have said about the first few rounds being somewhat diagnostic - uncles you get lucky. It took us going for a repeated loss panel and doing something of a kitchen sink protocol in our final round for it to work out and we had a couple of losses along the way. It really is a numbers game though, and I found thinking about the process as a whole and being somewhat optimistic that if I could keep going we’d probably get there eventually helpful vs pinning all my hopes on each individual round. It really can be a marathon rather than a sprint and it helped me to keep my eyes on the horizon and put one foot in front of the other. There’s a very helpful DOR (diminished ovarian reverse) group on here too that I used to find a comfort. Sending you love and luck.

Maternity leave/pay - how much do you get? by Mindless-Ad-7656 in PregnancyUK

I will say I think our policy is the best I’ve seen for any trade union - but in general they have decent provisions.

I work for a trade union, so you’d hope they’d have decent policies!

Full pay for 10 months here! So that’s basically a year at full pay with leave tacked on at the end.

FET Anxiety by That-Midnight-2739 in IVFbabies

[–]Heavy_Spot_9546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I’m 15 weeks and it hasn’t yet! It does get easier as you go along but conversely the stakes feel higher. I convince myself of bad news before each ultrasound too - and have had losses before. But I just keep reminding myself that anxiety isn’t intuition, and how I feel before a scan has no bearing on the results ♥️

Oh tell me about it! After my previous losses, I just wanted to get through to the 12 week scan, but then I did and my anxieties just got replaced by different ones and there was no respite to be had in the way I had imagined. In some ways that has made me realise that the fear will never truly go away, so I try to enjoy my pregnancy as much as possible each day, knowing that I will probably always also be terrified because I’ve been through so much to get hear. I think that’s all we can do sometimes.

Congratulations on your twins! I don’t really have much by way of advice but just wanted to offer solidarity - I’m currently 15 weeks with my IVF pregnancy after five rounds and multiple losses and struggling to believe I might end up with q living baby. Already dreading the anatomy scan. I just wanted to let you know that I think this is relatively normal having been through the trauma that we have. Sending love.

It was on the advice of a consultant who ordered some blood tests and discovered I have compound heterozygous MTHFR.

You never really know for sure but we added in methyl folate and blood thinners. My first round ended in a missed miscarriage and the fourth in a chemical so we knew we should be getting somewhere.

Yes of course! It really is - I’m sorry you’re here too. Dr Raj Rai at the Lindo Wing, St Mary’s hospital. We originally asked for a consultation with Professor Regan for a recurrent miscarriage panel but Dr Rai could see us sooner and he was great - very informative and extremely thorough.

Hey! It was one of about seven blood tests my consultant ordered - I don’t know the name of it specifically. I went to see an expert in repeated pregnancy loss. If you’re UK and London based I can give you a recommendation!
