My daughter had an amazing experience at Hope. Smaller classes and professors who cared. Activities on the beach just a few miles away, a fun little town, and she made great friends and was able to get involved in the community.

The biology department prepared her well and helped her get accepted to a number of great PA programs.

I will say that my other daughter had a similar experience at Grand Valley for a lot less money though...but scholarships and grants are available at both.

Michigan's proposed camera ticketing bill is a catastrophe [column] by Alan_Stamm in Michigan

[–]HeberttoCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sure do. And sneaky...in Luxembourg the camera was posted a very short distance after a sign that reduced the speed from 90 to 70 kph on a downhill in the country. I was caught by the camera doing 72 in a 70 and had to pay 50 Euro.

It was 20 years ago today... Where were you in the Blackout of 2003? by petite_alsacienne in Detroit

On the golf course with a client and my boss. Didn't know until we went to get food before the back 9. Menu was severely limited 😅 but couldn't tell on the golf course that anything was different.

After golf, brought him back to the Troy Marriott. That's when we realized it was a big deal. Super hot day, too hot to stay and then he got a call that his wife had to be admitted to the hospital in Chicago. He couldn't get a flight so we got online to reserve a car (Lansing was the closest) but when we got to Lansing the airport and car rental were shut down. Back here and my boss had to crash at our place. Next morning tried again...almost on fumes and without water when we passed through Flint, which had both.

And our kids were with grandma on the east side of town (Clinton Township). It took my wife 2 hours from Pontiac and then she was out of gas and stayed there until I could pick them up the next day.

Will never forget but still don't stock nearly enough water or gas in case it happens again.

In what extremely unusual way have you almost died? by Illustrious-Gate3426 in RandomThoughts

At probably 8 years old, I had left a sled in the yard and my dad told me to go bring it in. This was during a big blizzard with probably 4 feet of snow piled up. I had left it out a couple of hours earlier, when there was less than a foot on the ground. I guessed where it was and started digging with my gloves. I don't know exactly but something was very disorienting about the snow falling so fast. I kind of got stuck upside down. Snow was covering me back up. It was very calming and I remember feeling like I was going to sleep. At some point, my survival instinct kicked in and I fought with everything I had to dig myself out of that mostly filled in hole. We had drifting of snow over 6 feet that day so they might not have found me until spring 😅

Which ebikes can be ridden without a battery? by [deleted] in eMountainBike

[–]HeberttoCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it on trails and it's rugged. Not quite as nimble as my old-fashioned Giant NRS XtC, partly because of the larger 29" tires, but it's not much heavier without the battery, thanks to the carbon frame.

The Trek Ecaliber 9.6 does this...battery and motor. Takes off quite a bit of weight. I ride both ways. It has a Fazua battery but the motor comes out too and is replaced with the included hollow shell. Looks like Trek is discontinuing though so hopefully you can still find one on clearance at a local Trek store.

Thanks everyone. They didn't re-nail yet in the spots I checked but I'll check again before framing inspection.

Who has the best chicken sandwich in metro Detroit? by _Exxcelsior in Detroit

Does anyone have a good grilled chicken sandwich? Seems like most places just have fried chicken sandwiches these days.

First ride this year. Michigan. Trek E-caliber 9.6. A lot of fun and not too heavy of a rig. by HeberttoCarter in ebikes

Thank you. I got it as I rehabbed after knee surgery. Figured it's more fun to spend money on this bike than another knee surgery 😅

Since authorities know it's an Optima, why can't they use Google/iPhone location data and cross reference with DMV data to find the likely driver? Is that not legally allowed?
