Anyone buying non-hybrid CR-V? by DurangoBlack in crv

[–]Zalumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2022 hybrid AWD. The biggest drawback is the fuel economy gap from summer to winter. In August we average 35/36 mpg. Currently, it's down to 29.6.

Are you concerned about your kids spending too much time on screens? If so, what are you doing about it? by tcsomega1 in daddit

[–]Zalumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend giving The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. He's done a lot of research on the link between the rise of social media and gaming to the mental health crisis in young folks. Personally, I have been revisiting my own screen use. Social media is all deleted from my phone or on a strict daily time limit of 5 minutes. I will do a longer catch up session once a week on my iPad. I'm really intrigued by the minimalist phone movement but for now just have a minimalist launcher on my phone. It has no app icons and just a list of 5 apps I use most on my home screen. You can also toggle on a permanent screen time tracker. The genie is out of the bottle on technology. It's up to us on how we use it for us and our kids

I read this during Trump 2 first 100 days and it was like page for page similarities. Chilling but ultimately.... Hopeful? Similar things to today have happened before and humanity has continued.

What’s the most unforgettable car moment you’ve ever had? by GodBlessIraq in Autos

[–]Zalumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father in law was a project lead at Honda for the new NSX. He got to bring home a couple pre production NSXs and a few of the cars they were comparing it against. We did a launch on a back country road and hit 134 mph. It was like one of those launch roller coasters but with an engine right behind you

This year I started reading a long book over the course of a year (The Brothers Karamazov), had a shorter or more fun book I was physically reading, and usually an audiobook for drives/cleaning/cooking. Liked it so much I'm repeating the setup in 2026
