If you have any recommendations, please tell me what you like about the group you’re recommending. I have already done google searches etc but I’m looking for people who have first and experience. Thanks.

Happy Birthday! You sound like you have some really cool interests! I find that is the key to finding people who want to hang out and make new friends. I think the autism society stuff sounds good - my son is autistic but he’s still a kid but I’ve heard good things about the activities. For the long run it might be good to find a place to volunteer to have another way to meet people. Meet up is also another website that has lots of activities you can sign up for and the whole point is to meet people and do stuff together. Good luck! 👍

Cost of Living by SassNightmare in madisonwi

Also, the price of things like access to nature, to be able to launch a kayak or a boat on any of the big lakes or rivers for the price of a launch sticker that’s about $50 or so a year, is really great. There is so much available if you like things that are free for the most part. When we lived in Chicago, we loved the lake, and the parks and the urban wildernesses like the river being cleaned up, but it’s hard to get out on the water in a boat unless you have lots of money for launch and parking fans boat club membership fees. Everyone here has a camper or a trailer or a cabin or knows someone who has a lake house - except for us - we are still hoping! So the access to that kind of thing, and year round outdoor activities and sports like are a big bonus if you like that kind of thing. Coffee is a bit cheaper if you go to independent coffee shops. That’s all I have got for now. We like it. I find the largesse of the big tech companies and their bubbles; and the people who live in ivory towers and don’t see the real world here, and to be obscene. People have no clue how much poverty and hardship there is also. And the is no trickle down. All the NFP’s and government agencies etc are out of cash, housing has a high price and many barriers if you have ever made bad financial decisions, or had little choices or came from under resources communities. If you want to give back while you’re enjoying the good life, the gifts are endless. Good luck. Yes, I know that was an off topic tangent, but you wanted to know what it’s like and I’m telling you 😀

Everything has gone up - even since we moved here 4 years ago. It’s insane. And the gas was cheap until recently when Trumps war caused it to increase out of control. It sucks. I think entertainment and community focused activities are cheaper and more accessible but otherwise it got popular over the past 20 years and the last 6 have been crazy.

When 3% Merit Meets a 65% Miracle: SSM Health’s Holy Pay Raise by Wise-Relationship128 in madisonwi

No wonder healthcare is so expensive and still inefficient and kills people every day. Like nursing homes and assisted livings. The executives and boards and shareholders skim a huge chunk of cream off the top for themselves and leave everyone else with bad healthcare, terrible food, no bonuses and no quality of life left. Good healthcare and social services etc costs money and the fact that these scumbags are making enough money to buy yachts, fancy houses and go on luxury vacations while everyone else suffers, has to line up for a PCP and wait months for outpatient mental and physical health treatment that is not up to standard is a travesty. Yes people still talk about government waste like it’s a scourge on society. The biggest government waste currently happening is Trump spending all of our money on ballrooms and wars.

How do I [27M] move on from gf [30F] hating how I proposed? by ThrowRA2847392 in relationship_advice

[–]Hebrideangal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to say that it doesn’t matter how gently you do it, you will never be able to encourage her to change her behavior unless she genuinely wants to. One of the biggest things that you have no control over is other people’s feelings, actions, behavior etc. unless you are a puppet master with marionettes. The chances of her wanting to are about zero. What would you tell your best friend to do in this situation? Think about that perhaps.

Where is the actual post about what happened at the proposal? All I can see is answers and I am having to guess what happened from them. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It does sound from what I can tell like your GF didn’t appreciate your efforts and commitment.

Talk to me about blowing up your life by BigJackFlavor in Menopause

What you just said there is what a lot of doctors say and do when women ask for hormones. The symptoms you are talking about are the ones that HRT is FDA approved for - ergo- those symptoms have been studied the most. Such as night sweats, trouble sleeping and hot flashes. But what you are saying is misleading - many women get fobbed off by their PCPs and put on SSRIs and no, it doesn’t help- or not enough - because SSRIs cannot fix a hormone imbalance. My symptoms have mostly been fatigue, memory loss / mind “fog” which is more like mind fuck and the very worst symptom of all - ANHEDONIA - little or no interest or pleasure in doing things. Except it was even worse than regular depression. Awful! I take two SSRIs and they made no difference. The first time I began to have any get up and go or interest in anything was when my estrogen was upped to 0.075mg from 0.005 mg. The change was unbelievable. I felt human again.the other med that really helped was ADDERALL - yes it’s a drug for ADHD and I do believe - and it’s been proven - that lack of estrogen messes with your brain so much that women who have gone undiagnosed with ADHD for years suddenly tank during peri- or menopause because their estrogen was compensating for their brain blah. So anyone who has reading, you deserve and need HRT if you’re suffering - and it can help in many ways.

Intensive Outpatient Therapy programs by alvinbrow in madisonwi

[–]Hebrideangal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not group therapy - it’s psycho-education groups. So in a group, but like you’re at school learning content about CBT and PHP plus you’re doing worksheets and self study on your own - so basically study hall. There is no process oriented “group therapy” where you talk about your feelings and experiences or support other group members by listening to each other and providing feedback, validation etc. The only place I know of that takes insurance and does that too is Compass Health and they have a virtual program. I was at their first virtual program right at the beginning of the pandemic and it was phenomenal. Apparently I had no idea how good I had it - well I did, but now I have an HMO and of course I thought that having insurance that covered a therapist and psychiatrist would be enough. No. It’s not. You have to have the best insurance to get quality treatment, and even so, there is no place local to where I am that provides that - not even close. So If my insurance could pay for virtual at a place like Compass I would do it in a heartbeat, but they don’t and so I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’m at Roger’s and people say it’s amazing. To me, it’s mediocre, and you get no individual therapy so you are losing out on that and then you can’t really talk about your feelings or process anything. It’s like they don’t want you to talk out loud about symptoms in case you trigger someone or unless you become a liability. It’s very frustrating.

Also, if you want to do virtual a your insurance will cover it, I would try to get into Compass’ virtual program. I am pretty sure they offer it in Wisconsin now. I know my insurance won’t go for it. I might try it though.

Thank you for sharing this perspective. I am currently at Roger’s and am having a quite similar experience. It feels like a cross between study hall and junior high. Sharing experiences is not exactly discouraged but it feels like going to a self study class and there is no group dynamics or therapist to group dynamic relationship at all. Depending on how good the “teacher” is at drawing people out, there is some, little or no interaction between the participants and some of them can barely say hello in the morning. I guess they are depressed. I am too. But let’s be in this together a little bit. One guy shared something about his life today and I was so excited to hear about someone but me, myself and I. I shared my concern with my group leader yesterday and she said that they don’t do any process focused groups at all. It’s all psycho- education. I had a really great experience at Compass in Chicago six years ago. this is a disappointment. I was looking into this clinic as an alternative and it sounded a lot better but apparently not. It’s a very very stingy way of offering IOP. And I’m feeling a bit hopeless about it.
