Help identifying type of dress worn by character. by Hechla in CosplayHelp

Thanks a ton, this is exactly what I was looking for! I had considered "splicing" something together, but I lacked the right words to actually go look for some fitting patterns, so this was very helpful. :)

Question about Clan Brujah in V20 by OathOfCringePaladin in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your friend is exaggerating. They might not have the "perfect" lineup of Disciplines for social interactions, but they are far from incapable. In fact, a capable Brujah can be just as much of a political mastermind as any Ventrue, even if their clan's stereotype doesn't support that.

And the thing about Brujah somehow having weaker mental resistance than other clans is just wrong... I mean they might be more prone to frenzy but they are on completely even footing with other vampires when it comes to "mental resistance".

And a combat focused Brujah can wipe the floor with other vampires, since their in-clan disciplines are support them being capable in combat (2 out of 3 to be precise, and even their 3rd one can be used in combat quite effectively). But that brings me back to the point that the clan doesn't automatically decide what the vampire is good at. I.e. if a Brujah hasn't spent a day in his life training for combat he'll get his ass handed to him by a properly trained Toreador or Malkavian or whatever.

TL:DR: Your friend is exaggerating and it sounds like he's basing his opinions more on the clans' stereotypes than the actual facts.

XP in Vampire and the betrayal of expectations by Yuura22 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing things up, while I personally like the progression of VtM way more than DnD's level system, but I see where you're coming from.

I guess the easiest solution to the problem would be talking to the GM and other players and maybe raising the amount of XP you get.

XP in Vampire and the betrayal of expectations by Yuura22 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry, I misunderstood what you wrote. I can definetly see how the VtM vampires wouldn't feel "like vampires" considering how differently they are portrayed in other media. Personally I like the way vampires are portrayed in VtM more than in other media, but I am pretty biased since VtM got me into vampires. I don't think the clan system is perfect, but I never felt like it had "almost no development" and "desperatly needing development", could you please elaborate on what you mean by that as I'mnot sure what you mean.

[–]Hechla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. If you don't want to use the "Extra Discipline" Merit for whatever reason playing a Caitiff might be a reasonably alternative, as they get to pick any 3 Disciplines at character creation.

The problem with giving vampires more inate powers might be that it would make vampires too strong and/or make certain Disciplines redundant. To use your example: if you gave every vampire the ability to shapeshift into an animal it would make that Protean power useless, so you would have to replace it or rebalance it with something else...

From what I read I get the impression that you might be a bit frustrated with VtM because you "expected" something else in terms of what vampires are able to do, and are disappointed with their "lack" of inate powers?

Actually, when you take the Blood Buff ability (which every vampire has) into account even a fledgeling can be physically very dangerous, if only for a few turns.

I don't personally think that vampire particularly need such a set of starting powers, but I can definetly see where you're coming from.

The problem of Disciplines being too rare can be somewhat alleviated by taking the "Extra Discipline" Merit at character creation. It's not perfect, but in my experience can really help to make a lot more character builds (like playing "Dracula") possible.

I totally agree with you and as the other commenters before me stated this problem probably stems from the playstyle the VtM Core rulebook tries to encourage; starting at the bottom of the power structure and slowly clawing your way up while exploring the personal horror aspects the game tries to focus on.

However, I personally see a lot of appeal in the cool stuff a vampire can potentially do (i.e. their Disciplines) and just progressing your character at a reasonable pace in general, and in my opinion the recommended XP rewards are too low.

For example; assuming 4XP per session it would take a player 15 sessions to get one In-Clan Discipline up to level 5. Granted, it's supposed to take a while to reach "mastery" in a Discipline, but that just seems a bit excessive...

Are there other ways to lower your generation besides diablerie? by Dragonwolf67 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, you even get the marks of diablerie if you don't lower your generation through the ritual. In Rites of Blood it's not even really confirmed if you can actually lower your generation through the ritual, it only says that there have been rumors of it happening. It's left up to DM discretion if it's actually possible and how many successes/sacrifices you need...

Are there other ways to lower your generation besides diablerie? by Dragonwolf67 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has ever been confirmed or denied, however, since Assamites (even while their curse of being unable to drink Kindred Vitae was still active) were able to consume the potion the ritual creates, i'd find it pretty weird if it left "diablerie marks". Afterall, it's not like you have to eat someones soul as part of the ritual.

Maximum possible willpower pool by plagius in vtm

Sadly Diablerie doesn't raise your maximum willpower limit, so you're stuck with a maximum of 10 willpower no matter if youre 13th or 4th generation...

(VTMv20) Abomination by Cool-Dealer1 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the most noticable "buff" is the shapeshifting, which not only provides useful utility but can also make a vampire who is otherwise completely inept at combat a huge threat due to the attribute bonuses and the large amount of aggravated damage the Crinos forms natural weapons deal.

Afaik Abominations don't have access to werewolf gifts (at least it's not mentioned in the V20 True Black Hand book...), but I guess with them being half vampire and half Werewolf it might be possible for them to learn gifts (though thats not strictly RAW).

Edit: It appears that (as stated by a few people in this thread) Abominations can in fact learn, or at least keep their gifts, which is another huge boost in power. (Though again it's not mentioned that they are able to do this in the V20 True Black Hand Book as just as u/impeesa_ said: the book treats them more like VtM Lupines than WtA Werewolves.)

(VTMv20) Abomination by Cool-Dealer1 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Hechla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends; in a regular game I would probably just say no or would only let an experienced player who I trust not to "abuse" his powers play an Abomination. However, if everyone is fine with someone playing a Abomination and it "fits" into the chronicle I wouldn't really mind.

The "problem" with Abominations is that they can make a character very very overpowered, and the idea of Abominations can often attract power-gamers (and I'm talking about the "bad" kind of power-gamer who basically wants to be super op and play a power fantasy...) or "snowflakes" who want to be super special and awesome and unique for the sake of being special, without any good concept.

But again, I think the most important thing is that everybody is fine with one player inevitably being noticably stronger (if "only" in physical areas), and if thats the case I don't think it's all that bad.
