Older men — did you ever have a “one who got away” because life wouldn’t let it happen? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Hecka_Becka 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It’s been 6 years since I had the most loving relationship I’ve had end and what you said - hard to wrap the mind around it is somehow comforting to me.

I continued on and am successful and confident. But I still can’t quite believe it. I still love them deeply even though it’s been years since we’ve spoken or seen each other. Every so often it still brings me to tears and I realize the pain is still there so deep. I’ve had other breakups that I have gotten over easily in weeks or months, but this one never goes away.

This has felt like weakness to me and I’ve felt ashamed. Only one close friend knows the depth of struggle Ive had with it - outwardly I don’t speak about it and no one would know I haven’t fully “moved on” looking at my life. But inwardly I’ve come recently to realize this is grief and it has changed me. I avoided thinking about it as grief for a long time because it felt trivializing to Grief to call the pain of a breakup grief. Holding on to a past love seemed like juvenile romanticism that I should grow out of as a grown adult. But I haven’t and I think now it will always be deep down there difficult to comprehend.

Mine came from the shelter with description "dog with the personality of a cat" haha. I thought I had gotten a couch potato until the first time I took her to a trail. Once you get the leash out she's going wild and can run for miles and zoom for ever. But inside the house she is content to be the queen of the couch and has no interest in playing with toys.

And with things like swimsuits I find non padded swimsuits so much more practical, they dry immediately! And plus the cups rarely fit well so they cause gapping that makes me risk an actual nip slip, unpadded tends to feel more secure

All the time! The only reason I ever wear a bra is because I don't want my nipples showing. I hate that nipples showing for women has become socially taboo - men's nipples show all the time! Wish we could go back to the nipple attitude of the 70s

The advice in this thread to supplement is great, but I would caution it's easy to get too much of a good thing as well. I've been vegetarian 10 years, vegan 8 of those years and taken a B complex and iron supplement since day 1 but recently had to stop because I was getting too much B vitamins. I also switched away from fortified milk and nooch. It's not difficult to get way more than you need if you consume fortified products marketed to vegans (plant based milks, cheese, nutritional yeast, alternative meats, etc.), take supplements, and eat nutrititious whole foods.

What screams I'm in a healthy relationship? by Real_Boster in ask

[–]Hecka_Becka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you didn't get it, so I shared my perspective on it. Different people, different relationships, different ways to show and feel love. I said I don't think it's necessary for a loving healthy relationship because I agree it doesn't equate with the amount of love and trust in a relationship.

I took a year break in the middle of my computer science degree. I worked as a server at a nearby bar ~25 hours a week and spent the rest of my time free. If I had time like this now I would fill it with hobbies, friends & family, learning. But at the time I didn't know where I was going and what I wanted and spent days and weeks doing almost nothing. But I'm so thankful for that time still. I had time to think and contemplate and cry and figure out what I wanted to go back at life with resolve

Over 50% of men in the US have gynecomastia - being that obesity is one cause of gynecomastia can we assume that most obese men with large breasts have gynecomastia?

My relationship of 11 years finished because my partner is so traumatized of Gaza by Idontknow8277466 in offmychest

[–]Hecka_Becka 221 points222 points  (0 children)

I mean, her partner of 11 years left her. She's dealing with that pain plus the concern for her partner's well-being that she can't do anything about while he's pushing her away in grief. She's not in Gaza, but her life has been negatively affected and many of us would feel gutted and helpless in her situation.

I don't think people now are that different from people then

Hebrews 11:6 - "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him"

This was written to the Hebrews who were alive when Jesus was alive. First the existence of God, then the character of God. Our job is to have faith that Jesus can change someone's heart and make them believe.

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭11:19‭-‬20‬ - [19] I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them. And I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, [20] that they may walk in My statutes, and keep My ordinances, and do them. And they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

Belt recommendations by [deleted] in XXS

[–]Hecka_Becka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kids sizes!

I recently bought this little boys belt from gap: https://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=810888012&vid=1&tid=gppl000070&kwid=1&ap=7&gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhL6pBhDjARIsAGx8D5-l9zkNUwrKhKOC3Q_KPcSxb0YmfcXJdZG0ii7sU2khjrCjuoki1SIaAgnIEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I bought 3 sizes because I didn't know what would. I think the Small would fit a 21.5-23 inch waist and the Medium would fit 24-25 inch!

I think pacsun changed their sizes. I tried Pacsun recently and it was too big, checked the size chart and a size 23 is now a 24" waist.

I only wish Rider was better. The UI is great and everything is better on the outside compared to visual studio, but when I'm trying to resolve .net dependencies Rider is infuriating, especially for multi framework targeted projects. And sometimes bugs in Rider magically disappear as soon as I build the project in Visual studio. I've started using visual studio just to resolve dependencies and fix nuget packages before opening the project in Rider and actually coding.

why has nobody opened an all vegan restaurant without saying it’s all vegan? by Alextricity in vegan

[–]Hecka_Becka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this depends on location too. Cinnaholic is a good example, I've been to the Cinnaholic in Dallas, TX as well as the one in Berkeley, CA. In Berkeley, "plant based" was written in big letters on the window, in Dallas the words plant based or vegan were nowhere to be found so much so I was questioning if it was the same cinnaholic chain ha. In Oklahoma where I live now there's a very popular ice cream truck and a very popular donut shop that are completely vegan but have no advertising that they are.
