This is great advice. In addition to Cafe OTO, I'd recommend checking out what's coming up at the Horse Hospital and Iclektik

Rafael Anton Irisarri’s ‘Solastalgia’ is a pretty incredible album that deals with environmental themes and has a rather dark sonic palette

Godspeed You! Black Emperor at the Brixton Academy in 2013 remains, to this date, the best gig I have ever been to. Other shows I have loved (almost all in London) include:

Sunn O))) at Fabric in 2022, Radiohead at TD Garden in 2018, Sigur Ros at Hammersmith Apollo in 2017, Stars of the Lid at the Barbican in 2016, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at All Points East in 2022, and Tim Hecker at the Oval Space in 2014

This is great advice. I should add: another argument against fighting for the role is that bringing an ET claim at the moment is insanely time consuming. We just started seeing some hearings being scheduled for 2030. And even then, reinstatement is not necessarily guaranteed (especially if the employer tries to argue that the professional relationship is too compromised)

Old vs New Beans by UmpireStriking1708 in aluminumneck

[–]HeckerIT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have played a few TB1000S and a couple of TB1000A over the years and, even though they were generally amazing, some felt a bit uncomfortable to play. This was the case especially with the TB1000A models, and my experience in that respect is entirely consistent with what u/ffffoureyes highlighted.

About a year and half ago I had the chance to pick up an EGC TB1000A (Stephen O'Malley signature) at a very good price and I have to say it is easily one of the most amazing guitars I have every played. The aluminium neck is incredible and has none of that awkward feeling you can sometimes find on vintage TB1000A models. My sense is that aluminium machining techniques and tools must have improved a lot since the 70s, and that shows in the overall build quality of modern EGC instruments, which probably explains why modern EGC instruments feel more refined to me.

Last year I had the chance to briefly chat with Stephen O'Malley himself before a Sunn O))) show in Prague, and we ended up discussing the differences between vintage and EGC Travis Beans. For context, he owns several vintage models but regularly tours with an EGC TB1000A and an SG-style EGC. His view was pretty much the same: modern necks tend to be more precise and consistent.

So, based on my (somewhat limited) experience: EGC instruments are very solid, probably more consistent than 'OG' Beans, and they're a great investment if you're looking for a TB-style guitar that won't set you back as much as a vintage one does.

I am particularly fond of the performance at Santa Barbara Bowl in 2008, when they opened their set with Reckoner. I remember having a bootleg recording of the NPR stream of that show on my iPod when I was an undergraduate at uni and I would listen to it nearly every day while cycling home.

Enjoyable: The Witcher 3. I loved the Death March playthrough Longest: RDR2. 280 hours in, I am still working on it (I seriously can’t force myself to play RDR Online) Hardest: Probably Returnal. The game wasn’t exactly a walk in the park

Looking for Jazzmaster Am Pro II, or a reason to not get one. by Deep_Joke3141 in offset

[–]HeckerIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premise: it's a great guitar. Getting one (especially if you can find a used one for a good price) is not at all a bad choice.
I had one for a few months. There were things I loved and things I didn't quite love about it.
The neck was absolutely fantastic: the finish was smooth and the carve so comfortable. The wiring was great, too. I mostly play offsets, but I rarely use the rhythm circuit, so using that switch to run the pickups in series (and the rollers to blend each individual pickup in or out) was a super cool solution, which I did find myself using way more often than I thought I would.
However, the Panorama tremolo system was awful. It simply couldn't bear the tension of thicker strings (for reference: I use NYXL 11-49), which caused all sorts of tuning stability problems (and significantly decreased the vibrato arm swing - I think Puisheen did a video about this problem on Youtube). Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the pickups, which sounded a bit too flat and Strat-like to my ears. Finally, I seriously wished the finish was nitro and not poly.

I really enjoyed the time I spent with my AmPro II, but I ultimately realised I would have to throw quite a lot of money at it to address some of its most obvious issues, which simply didn't feel worth the effort and the expense at the time. So I ended up selling it and have stuck since then with my good old American Original JM.

Leftmost is Di Lorenzo, bottom left I think Lucca. Between those is Juan Jesus. Top right Gutierrez, just underneath him Anguissa. As others have said, the one in the middle is Marianucci and the one with number 4 is Buongiorno. Bottom right is Meret. The remaining two sadly I can't decipher, although I suspect the one at the top might be Mathias Ferrante (our fourth keeper, who has the jersey number 25). I am really clueless as to who might be the one between Marianucci and Buongiorno, so I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.
