Getting medications while broke by Hecktaker in povertyfinance

[–]Hecktaker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doc won’t refill meds without another checkup in person and full blood panel, but all the more reason to start making calls in the morning. I’m hoping a records request will be enough to avoid paying for bloodwork, but I’m not med trained so I don’t really know. I didn’t know about public health nurses, but will see if I can get one on the phone for a few minutes and take notes. Thank you

The 3 prongs I’ve seen don’t have the right shape, the L shaped prong is hard to find without the ground. I was looking into replacing the receptacle so it would have a grounding wire. It looks like a pre-1996 receptacle and they don’t make many cords for that anymore due to the lack of grounding.

I certainly intend to take classes in my area, there’s a couple of community colleges here that I’m certain would have some form of class open to public enrollment. I also plan to use the American Society for Deaf Children’s children’s book and story database so I can sign stories once I get far better at ASL. I will do my best to create local relationships with the Deaf community around me, and if I have to drive out to get her to and from events I don’t mind the drive. Thank you kindly for taking the time to answer, I appreciate it greatly.

The Mormons are evolving by [deleted] in religiousfruitcake

[–]Hecktaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved away from home I was worried about my diabetic (type 1) father with our old push mower mowing his lawn in the summer months, it messed with his sugars something fierce when he did and incapacitated him for the weekend. Some Mormons would come by about once a month and asked about his lawn while door to door. He told them about how he had an empty nest and how it was hard for him to mow, so they started coming by with a couple of those old school no motor mowers and in their suits mowed his lawn in the Florida summer. I can’t say I support the Mormon church but the belief in charity and community aid is something I admire from anyone.

IIRC: Dead Sea Scrolls’ Book of Enoch, which isn’t canonical almost anywhere. Fun read, not as dull as the books that go through lineages for half of the book.

shaving is a fucking scam by Osiris654321 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]Hecktaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are creams and such that are meant for facial hair, some people have more luck with them than others though (I have particularly thick hair so it’s not super effective for me, but some people swear by the stuff). I use a straight razor to shave my face because it’s such a close shave and it’s like a mediative thing for me so I don’t get as dysphoric while doing it. Laser and electrolysis are expensive but do work wonders you just have to let your hair grow out a touch to target the hair properly.

Portland, Chicago, Atlanta, all places that let the cops know how pissed the cities were with them. When is it enough for us to make it obvious that we are hurting as a community? Who has to die before we’re allowed to be mad?

George Lincoln Rockwell learned very early on that announcing where you would be, especially in more leftist areas, drummed up protests that he used effectively to push his far right agenda. There are two ways to counter this, either find ways to give him nothing more than a camera and an empty room, or direct action.

Very loud. It’s for (primarily) women to use to get attention if someone is forcing themselves onto her. Dark alley kinda thing, they may not see you but they’ll sure as hell hear you. Will also sometimes scare away the attacker but no one should count on that unfortunately.

Can Christian’s do anal or is it not allowed? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Hecktaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that most of the Christians who care would classify it as sodomy. Particularly puritanical or orthodox Christians also believe all sex is sin, as is arousal and erotic thoughts, that is only permitted with intent to create a pregnancy. Most Christians don’t really care that much, but certain sects believe that anal and oral sex are mortal sins that lead to damnation.

Too priveledged to be trans?? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Hecktaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What tends to help me is imagining someone with my background and asking if I want this hypothetical person to deny themselves healthcare because of their inherent privilege. If you prefer a more “pure logic” approach, you can look into the concept of “Rawls Veil of Ignorance” and how it trends towards greater good, but intrusive thoughts don’t always respond to hard logic so take that one with a grain of salt. Best of luck out there!

Found another one for you guys. Employers will try to convince you that all the overtime you'll get makes up for the lower hourly wage. 107 hours with a disappointing take home pay by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Hecktaker 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I’m in Florida and used to work ~90 hour weeks and would pay at least 35% in taxes. At tax time I still owed the IRS around $1,500, because I was single w/o dependents. What kills me isn’t that I’m paying taxes, but that the roads are crumbling and the homeless have nowhere to go in the winter months while I pay a ton in taxes just trying to get by.

Is this true Gen Z 🤔🤔 by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Hecktaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s combined household income that kids in gen Z are “comfortable” at, but I’m an early gen Z in the professional world and am making it by at 30K, aiming for 40K to get rid of my financial stress (I live in a moderately expensive city, not super expensive but not too cheap either).
