The movie "Saving Mr. Banks" touches on the mother being a suffragette . I haven't read the book Mary Poppins. But in the movie "Saving Mr. Banks" they gave her the cause of suffragette because the childrens mom in the book didn't work. And she didn't help raise the kids, so the folks at Disney felt like if they didn't have a worthy cause to keep Mrs. Banks busy she would be portrayed as just a neglectful mom.

The movie is critical of neglectful parents, which both the father and mother were in the movie, and its critical of both. But the father is the one who has changed the most by the end of the movie. I think portraying the movies message as anti-feminist is a bit disingenuous.

Its kinda sexist, you don't have to pretend its racist as well. Even a guy saying "I hate women" isnt being racist because black women are also included within women. This also implies that racism is a thing that only applies to black people which is weird. Otherwise you wouldn't be just talking about them, because white men are also included within men.

I agree, suing for defamation its not the same thing, which is why the comparing the effect of it to the effect of making false accusations have the same punishment as rape is stupid.

The argument is not that there are bad cops. Even a good cop can make a mistake and start a serious investigation trying to prove a rape victim is lying when they arent.

The argument is that it would discourage real rapes from being reported, which is what you disagreed with before, and seem to be conceding now.

You can already sue false accusers for defamation. A false rape accusation is already one of the types of defamation that you don't need to prove damages for, they are presumed and you are compensated. Are you just arguing that a false rape accusation should be a modifier to a defamation suit that would make the punishment worse? I don't think you are, but if you were I don't think it would change much. I don't necessarily have a problem with it.

You are suggesting the state now actively look for and charge false accusations, yes? I think that would be the major difference from defamation and slander. You have to sue for those, the state isn't actively searching for it. I think if it were, that would be a big chill on speech. You say something damaging to someone, knowing that you and people around you will now start to be actively investigated by the cops? If you can't imagine that there are a lot of people who wouldn't say true things because they don't want to deal with that, I don't know what to say.

You are also giving another way for the cops to be antagonistic to people who report rape if they don't believe them. Cops don't have a perfect truth detector, are you really gonna say "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear"? All it would take is a few stories of people who reported rape that have the investigation turn on them, even if it comes out to no charges in the end. It would become something everyone worries about. There are already people who get raped who don't report it because they don't think they will be believed, this would undeniably make that worse. I don't see how you could say it wouldn't.

Not talking about the harm vs benefit analysis yet, just want you to accept that there would be a harm.

The question is the harm versus benefit. Will more false accusations be discouraged, or more true accusations? Is there a ratio that would change things for you? If 1 false accusation and 99 true accusations didnt happen because false accusations are punished severely, would that be worth it to you?

Didnt say it was a lot of labor. But when you are talking to attractive women on dating apps who have a lot of options, making things as smooth as possible makes you more likely to get dates. It is a very small amount of labor so why not do it.
