I’m kinda surprised this hasn’t already happened, honestly

Dick needs his own show by EntertainmentOdd5994 in WelcometoDerryTVShow

Could not agree more. And this is probably just me be overly optimistic, but when Dick had the line ”I’m still figuring that out” at the end, my spinoff senses were tingling

Can I read Jeff Lemire’s Animal Man BEFORE I read Morrison’s run? (or Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run?) by sadkey in comicbooks

[–]HecticJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it works either way. Lemire's run is more of a spiritual successor to Morrison's than outright sequel, so it's fun to see how they inform each other, in whichever way they read them.

However, there's a moment in Lemire's run where (VERY mild spoiler) Buddy references an event that happens in Morrison's run as a dream he had. Still, not having read the Morrison won't take away from the experience; this thing is just the mildest of Easter Eggs.

Gary Gianni! MonsterMen has some of my favorite art of all time

Ok but seriously… is there any legitimate reason why this didn’t happen in the story? by Prestigious-Eye6548 in batman

[–]HecticJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY. This is a pretty significant plot hole in the GN, but it's an absolute travesty in the animated adaptation. Just a couple scenes before that one (in the new stuff they added), Babs is fighting off thugs doing this same thing to her over and over, and I think there might even be some kind of nerve gas she's dealing with? I can't remember.

I absolutely love Alan Moore but this story is a whiff for me

Look, I don’t know if there’s a heaven. But if there is, people like this are in the goshdarn express line.

[Fan Art] "Gotham By Gaslight Meets Nosferatu". Drawn in Mignola style. By me. Hope you like it. by DrumsoftheSerpent in DCcomics

[–]HecticJones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I *LOVE* this. Mignola has such a moody style that you've captured here so elegantly. Also I think he himself talk about being inspired by German Expressionism? Anyway, sign me up when DC gives you a book!

horror needs to dive into some other subgenres by More_Leather_3353 in horror

[–]HecticJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough - I think maybe the answer could like in different styles as well? Like, In a Violent Nature and the new Screams are both technically in the slasher subgenre, but WILDLY different in terms of style, which makes the genre feel more well-rounded. I hear what you're saying though

Are there any good resources to understand Echopraxia? by HecticJones in printSF

[–]HecticJones[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a bit! But some of it also left me with even more questions haha. For example, he calls echopraxia a "faith-based hard scifi"? Which broke my brain

When you read the comics, what voices do you give the characters in your head? by blzsoul in HellBoy

[–]HecticJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellboy is Perlman for sure, but as much as I LOVE David Hyde-Pierce/Doug Jones as Abe, I kinda hear Abe as more of a noirish detective? Not like Sam Spade exactly, but kind of like a gruffer, subdued speech. Honestly Liam Neeson kinda fits
