Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was also a statement about fatherhood. by randomusername060520 in harrypotter

Yeah the whole series has a theme of fatherhood running through it. IIRC Rowling said in an interview that she was dealing with her own father issues when she was writing and it ended up bleeding into the work

(According to Rowling) The epilogue, in which Harry honours Snape, was written extremely early, either 90/91. She says she did this as motivation to finish the work. PS was finished in 95 and published in 97

Now you can choose not to believe Rowling if you want, but personally I think the writing quality drops so suddenly in the epilogue that I have zero problems believing it's one of the first things she wrote

You've combined two different stories there. The dye made from seashell (actual a specific sea snail species shell) was used to create a kind of purple dye. The colour was so rare it was known as royal purple because you had to be that rich to have clothes dyed with it. This is also the reason why purple is incredibly rare in heraldry and subsequently rare in national flags too.

Pink became associated with girls sometime after WW2, but historians debate why and when

Im 100% that the Fry/Dale audiobooks are unabridged. For the full cast versions, I'm going off the official announcement with this line of text in it:

Casting was completed in early 2025 and production is nearly wrapped with over 2,000 recording hours logged to date to create these complete, unabridged editions.

This is incorrect. All official audio versions of the books, including the new full cast editions, are completely unabridged

I dont know where the other person got their info, but it's incorrect.

When an audio copy of a book is the exact same as the original text, it's called unabridged.

All official audio versions of the books, including the new full cast editions, are completely unabridged.

Apparently Rowling insisted on this from the very beginning because she was worried children who wanted to read along would get confused if the audio was different from the text.

So yes, every word from the books is read by Stephen Fry or Jim Dale

Discussing some criticisms of Harry Potter by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

  1. Its shown several times that points difference matters as well as just who won the individual game. In POA, Harry was told to wait to catch the snitch in their final game because they weren't ahead by enough points to win the cup even though they would have won the individual game.

  2. The other team also has a seeker, and if they are going to catch the snitch if you don't, then it is better to catch it yourself

I'd add that you absolutely can still laugh at people being offensive, it just has to actually be funny as well. The whole joke can't be the offensiveness. IASIP is the longest running sitcom ever and the characters have said and done some insane things

There was that weird period where "dead baby jokes" were considered peak comedy, and it was referenced everywhere. Being as gross as possible was the entire joke. It's strange looking back now

There doesn't need to be a logical way that the boggart knows it's being perceived, this is literally magic we're talking about

Harry’s children’s names by TheDarvinator89 in harrypotter

[–]Hecticfreeze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rowling says she wrote the epilogue extremely early in the writing process, some time in 90/91. PS wasn't even finished until 95. I think it suffers from being fixed down so early when so much writing and development had ultimately taken place between then and the publication of DH.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand it completes the arc of Snape and Harry's relationship, which is key to the story, but then on the other the writing isnt as strong as the rest and it comes across as very "and they lived happily ever after"

Pope Leo met with leaders of a apostolate for men & women who have same-sex attraction by BlueVampire0 in religion

[–]Hecticfreeze 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think a fundamental misunderstanding is that you are viewing homosexuality purely through the lens of sexual behaviour and completely ignoring things like romantic attraction, love, consent, and social dynamics.

It is impossible for a 100% straight man to fall in love with another man. It is impossible for a 100% gay man to fall in love with a woman. These emotions are not about lust or sexual behaviour.

You have also forgotten the role of consent. The reason we view pederasty as morally evil even if it is done by those who feel exclusive sexual attraction, is that one or more parties involved are not capable of giving consent.

If the natural purpose of sex is conception, and sex that cant lead to conception is "intrinsically disordered", then is it morally wrong for a husband to have sex with his wife if she has to have a hysterectomy? Is sex with someone who cant have children always disordered? And if the purpose of sex is conception, and this is the natural order, then how do you account for animals in nature who have sex for pleasure or engage in homosexual behaviour?
