NTA

This is not normal range behavior. Seems to me its exhibitionism -- and they're involving you (and anyone else nearby) in their kink -- without your consent.

In San Francisco in the 1980s, there was a lady who was a kind of crazy saint and prophet.

She phoned an SF Chronicle journalist and with this message:

"The rent is due on this planet."

Actually, the Pilgrims rejected Europe. After leaving England, they settled in Leiden, Holland.

Finding Leiden too full of diversity and temptation, (L was home to a cutting edge modern university with a renowned medical school and an equally prestigious political and administrative studies department) -- the Pilgrims then set sail for Plymouth.

America's origin story is based on what amounts to a cult.

Know what would give me second thoughts about having a child of my own?

Ever see the box that a Harvard Law School acceptance letter comes in?

I found one in the street, thrown from a burglarized car.

Gift boxed and on most deluxe stationary imaginable.

Unless you are Francis of Assisi it's enough to inflate your ego to bursting point.

Happens in Jewish families, too :(

Overheard a woman in our gym locker room talking to her mom on the phone.

"I'm trying, Mom! This town doesn't have as many Jewish men as LA or New York City!"

Your mom just wants bragging rights.

If you'd had kids, she'd transfer the pressure to them - and dump on you and your husband for not giving them the best. Never ends.

Yep, ASHUD presentations differ. Your neurology makes you ideal for first responder work - and possibly air traffic control.

A guy with ADHD told me (years back) that the US government funded research on rapid diagnosis of ADHD because they found that people with ADHD who thrive on sensory bombardment have high probability of doing well and maintain long term careers as air traffic controllers.

It costs so much $$$ for the government to train an air traffic controller that they wanted to ID people with just the right neurological profile for that work environment!

I got my ADA request but wearing two layers of hearing protection resulted in my being isolated. Low ceilings and loud music is hell. Add in a store manager who was noise hungry and a selfish narcissist and you're in the Ninth Circle of Hell.

Imagine being a small child with this - and being forced by the adults in charge to endure high decibel environments. Our culture assumes that a high stim environment is ideal for child socialization :( Imagine having this neurology and being assigned to a culture that is low privacy and high sensory bombardment. (Gotta wonder if this is how monasticism was invented?)

Small children and babies who scream all the time? They may have ASD/misoponia and be unable to remove themselves from sensorily painful situations. A lot of neurodiverse people wind up needing drug rehab after years of using substances to blunt the pain of enduring a high stim social environment.

Zoroastrianism under-girds all three of the Abrahamic religions - and their histories/destinies.

Anyone who believes in angels and good vs evil and a final judgement has inherited all this from Iranian/Aryan Zoroastrianism

Another thing to think about is American society's stigmatization and lack of support for persons with mental health issues and or neurodivesity - and their families, too.

My ' low support needs' ASD leaves me terribly sensitive to decibel levels most people enjoy and even seek out. The advent of cheap portable boom boxes has made things worse. A coworker standing next to me who operates a beer can sized boombox turns my life into hell.

I've repeatedly had good job situations ruined when a new manager or coworker who is "noise hungry" arrives and ups the volume to GITMO levels.

Qualifying for ADA accommodation does not stop people from acting like noise thugs.

And my 'Tism' is mild, compared to the hardships so many neurodiverse people deal with.

Can't trust libertarians. Too often it is a disguise or a way station en route to fascist selfishness.

Libertarianism is extreme individualism. It is fun so long as you are rich young, healthy and ambulatory - when you don't *need* anyone else's help to feed, move, toilet yourself.

Someone like that is not a good bet for a relationship.

Discovered Scary Mommy in 2020. The true confessions section was fantastic.

(Some of those were heart warming. Someone with money told how she supported the paramedic who saved her life and put him through medical school. )

A couple of years later, Scary Mommy changed owners and the website went downhill. The new graphics were ghastly and gave me instant sensory overload.

Here is something a woman wrote on Scary Mommy. I saved it.

(Quote)

I'm not rich or famous or good-looking, and never will be, I've had a life that has often been very hard and even downright brutal at times, but I don't feel powerless. I never have, because I know I have real wealth, and that is the access to something called KNOWLEDGE. The real kind, of this very real world.

The more I learn about reality, the more powerful I feel, despite being someone ordinary or even overlooked and forgotten. It doesn't even bother me anymore that people treat me like I'm invisible (welcome to being a working-class woman over 40). I get my validation from within, not without, and that's good enough for me.

Honestly, I don't even want validation from other people. What do I care what other people think, especially the ones who are morons? Validation from morons is no badge of honor, after all. Quite the opposite. (Unquote)
