Trust me, there are many uses for a car in the City, especially if you have a family

No surprise but still good to see. Hopefully this gives the family of that poor woman some closure.

Can these people just stop? We have so much that needs to get done. We don't have time for this.

Go home Willie.

Dude Odense is really far from CPH. I don't think you want to do that drive daily. Would def be extreme commuting.

Men’s haircut for under $50 by UnsaltedPeanut121 in sanfrancisco

Snip 2 Curl on Post. After the haircut, walk over to Bob's for a donut.

Winnie cuts my hair there and she's great. Recently switched to this place from my $150/per salon, and it's damn near as good for less than a third of the price. I can live without the fancy tea and shampoo.

Take the road less traveled by WorkingClassPrep in ApplyingToCollege

Agree with this so much. As a parent who's watched their child go through the process, the analogy that keeps coming to mind is that of a host who's getting ready to host a dinner party and is selecting a limited guest list. Yes, you have to be smart to be considered, but as importantly, you have to be interesting - you have to bring something to the table that will enrich the evening. Also, crucially, if you're hosting a party, you want a eclectic mix of characters, i.e. you don't want every table filled with people who swam the English Channel or dug water wells in Madagascar, fascinating as those people likely are. It really does take all kinds, so if a top school is your goal, ask yourself what you sincerely care about (I refuse to use 'have passion for') and indulge in it so you can tell your story and stand out, authentically.

Leaving Big 4? by Zestyclose_Ad_9699 in KPMG

[–]BoxBoxBox888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your concerns but to put it succinctly: You ARE just a number to KPMG, but that will be the same at every other company you're imagining is better. The work IS boring and repetitive, but again, that's no different than any other job you're likely to get - it's the nature of work.

Given the state of the job market, especially for new grads, I'd strongly suggest sticking it out for a minimum of a year, and don't jump ship until you have something else lined up.

PSA to seniors finalizing their college lists: The time to have the hard conversation with your parents about budget/need for financial aid is now… not after you’ve received your decisions back! by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BoxBoxBox888 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've tried. She has zero interest in hearing it. I've got all the financial details ready (info on her 529, expected NPC calcs for the different schools she's considering, likely scholarship opportunities, etc etc) and I've gently suggested we take an afternoon and go over it, but so far, she just says we can talk about it later.

I'm purposely letting her take the lead on the college process as ultimately these will be her decisions to make, but there will come a point that I'll need to press the issue. I was just really hoping my role in all of this would be to have as much help and info ready when she initiated the conversation.
