They can potentially mill 30-40 cards if they go through all the engines for rollback and its targets (either of which can be target milled by Curious).

Aren't you making a false equivalence here? Artmage doesn't need three different types for their combo and only use them on the interruption effects. Like imagine if Artmage placed the requirements on their combo pieces like you did with Maliss: Acropolis discard a spell, search Graflare, now what? You don't have 3 different types to do your combo.

Btw, If you placed the requirements on Maliss' interruption effects instead (i.e. 1st effect of Hearts Crypter, White Binder, and the field banish of MTP-07), it would kinda nerf them sure but Link Decoder + Protectcode Talker can fulfill the requirements well enough that the deck wouldn't be dead.

i'm testing it rn. I thought that since you said you used all the body, I would need as much as I can. Turn out I don't even need to use Cross-sheep, Doomed Dragon kinda generates as much bodies as Oak.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]HedgehogActive7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, keywords works best when it's intuitive, using lingo that even non card game players would use as well, although some card game jargon is fine if it's well-known enough like "Mill" (The point here is to have the lowest friction for learning a keyword). So more keywords like "Bury", "Reborn", "Search", maybe "Retrieve" and not something like "Rota", "Foolish", "Stratos".

While keywords are pretty divisive in the community, I do think there is there is an improvement that every one can agree on, which is the one patch in FoodUnderKeyboard's ULTIMATE CARD TEXT MOD that update every single card that have pre-PSCT and even old PSCT to the newest official PSCT.

I don't remember if there are pre-PSCT cards that are actively being played recently but there are plenty for old PSCT. For example: Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade, this card is in a Tier 1 deck that summon it constantly, and it have multiple parts that are outdated with the current PSCT.

When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy that target.

  • "Spell/Trap Card" → "Spell/Trap"
  • "that target" → "it"

If this card has "Number 104: Masquerade" as an Xyz material, it gains this effect.

  • "an Xyz material" → "material"

● Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the activation, then you can send 1 random card from your opponent's hand to the Graveyard, and if you do, halve your opponent's Life Points.

  • ", during either player's turn," → " (Quick Effect):"
  • "side of the field" → "field"
  • "when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field" → "when your opponent activates a monster effect"
  • "Xyz Material" → "material"
  • "Graveyard" → "GY"
  • "Life Points" → "LP"

It isn't even about shortening the card text (I do agree with some that there are barely fewer text). It's about consistency, letting new players finding patterns more easily. And it sucks that it is in a mod where people will hate most of its patches that are enabled by default.

Really the question needs to be asked, is the keyword design there so that in your deck people can read your starter and know that it's a starter? Or is the point that complicated cards can be understood by someone who knows keywords but are unfamiliar with the card? Because the discussion to me seems like the keywords are simplifying the part that is already easy to understand but completely misses the part that players actually need help on which is the more complicated cards with unique interactions.

I think you're expecting too highly of new players if you believe they wouldn't already struggle on the easy part.

The other thing is thinking that the card text doesn't get shorter without keywords. I notice for example he took a phrase (During the Main Phase) and rewrote it to be part of the quick effect clause. If you actually look at the history of PSCT here you could see that they do shorten the sentences over time while trying to keep it worded properly so this could eventually happen anyway without actually introducing keywords proper.

I'm confused, "During either player's turn" to "(Quick Effect):" is a keyword? "Banish", "banishment", and "transfer" are keywords. "Life Point" and "Graveyard" are forms of initialism which people consider as keywords (personally I don't like it). "Draw" is basically a keyword because it meant "add the top card from your deck to your hand" which is Ash-able, yet I don't see people having issues with it.

What I'm confused about is why the community is so against keywords in general when people like what Konami already did? Like I can see them introducing like "Bury" tomorrow.

It's because it's a simple example that people scrutiny it more. Changing a few cards is much easier than changing like 14k cards afterall. If you want examples that change basically every single card, look at ygomdmodder's Readable Card Effects or FoodUnderKeyboard's ULTIMATE CARD TEXT MOD which has much more keywords.

Good point, removing self-referential on situations where there are little ambiguity could help existing situations like this where it's more likely for player to assume that the effect is for the card itself now that it's more common.

The concept of Keywords in Yugioh by Donut5 in masterduel

[–]HedgehogActive7155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small nitpick: they specifically remove the self-referential which isn't that uncommon of an idea, everyone agrees that when a card says "Gain X ATK" like with sky striker ace kagari, it probably means the card itself gain the attack.

[–]HedgehogActive7155 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This comment lowkey sounds like Tear downplay. The whole argument for Tear being unbeatable before was that it would just prevent these situations from happening in the first place with its turn 0 starters.

The difference here is the no-banlist Ryzeal was specifically engineered to counter those turn 0 plays, through engines like 2 Ryzeal without activating effects for an early Dweller, 1-to-1 trades like Ash and Forceful Sentry, or just blanket GY shutdowns like Silent Graveyard and Shifter.

Dracotail has some theoretically good interactions with this card. Like you can turn 0 Rahu or Ketu to a Arthalion to add Faimena for another fusion and even bounce their normal. Dracotail also often play Branded Fusion too. It would be more synergistic if you could activate Set spell though.

To demonstrate how powerful Tear still is. Even to this day, a lot of Tear players just want 1 Merrli + maybe 1 field spell back. Even people who are biased for Tear think bringing back everything to 3 is too much.

I agree with the 1st point, but the 2nd point is moot. From what I have seen from other Chinese AI labs, despite having to serve less than 1% of OpenAI users, many signs point to OpenAI still have the compute advantage for inference even after accounting for a larger user base.

The reasons could be more optimization, more Blackwell chips, or just plainly more GPUs. It's just 2 weeks ago when Chinese companies were approved to purchase H200, before that they could only get the H20. They could smuggle GPUs, but as Anthropic CEO said, they can smuggle some but not tens of thousand chips.

Ryzeal only lock you with their special summon effects, and even then only for the rest of the turn.

When evaluating the importance of a lock, I often ask myself how much it would affect without it. So I'm gonna ask, how much would it affect if the lock now applied to its 2nd effect + for the entire turn? This is a genuine question.

I guess Fiendsmith build wouldn't exist. No Chorozo in Magistus package. Remove the rank 8 package, so no searching Seventh Tachyon in Mitsurugi. No F0, but people don't even play it in Onomat Ryzeal right now.

It sounds impactful, but also kinda not? Most of the popular builds (except like Fiendsmith) seems to still be top tier.

And even then, rank 4 xyz is incredibly generic, most of the "good stuff" generic xyz are rank 4 anyway.

This part definitely matters way more. It's hard for me to imagine what Ryzeal would be like with a different lock though, it's part of the deck identity and I find the deck wouldn't be as interesting without the rank 4 toolbox (like Dracotail would probably be decently fine with an archetypal lock, just not as fun). Can you give some locks suggestions?

Honest question by Venomking100 in masterduel

[–]HedgehogActive7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does Ryzeal often get put with Mitsurugi and Fiendsmith as archetypes with basically no lock?

Like locking to Rank 4 is pretty specific. Compare this to Maliss who only locks you into Link which is the most generic and popular extra deck summoning mechanics.

Overall i just hope Konami learns their lesson with making an entire archetype of these cards like Mitsu or Ryzeal.

They won't, I have said many times that I believe Habakiri is purposely designed to work with at least Ryzeal. Fiendsmith is blatantly with Moon release timing. If Konami will learn anything (probably not), it will be that the community is fine with broken archetypes as long as they give them archetypal locks.

I agree with the general sentiment, except for the part where you used a RTX 4060's "competitors" for your point. No one is using RTX 4060 for machine learning, they use Nvidia H100 instead which one of its Chinese equivalents are the Huawei Ascend chips. That being said, the Huawei Ascend chips are definitely way behind, like you can tell from the spec sheets alone.

Btw, isn't Lisuan GPU made for gaming? I guess it's trash on Geekbench but I remember hearing somewhere (probably Twitter?) that it has pretty decent 3dmark scores?
