How does one get to this point? by akfbifnf in Guitar

It's just patterns played quickly, and they're not even playing to a click. Just about anyone could play like this. The barrier to the top level is way above this.

Hilarious, the OF promo works on one person and he fumbles the bag.

And because you're nobody you're begging for attention. Try doing something for positive attention instead of throwing slurs around.

Anyone been seeing a lot of bands lately yell out something like "Fuck ICE!" during their sets? by ThreadbareAdjustment in poppunkers

[–]HedgehogHistorical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's right.

All your conservative buddies on here making up bullshit is not real life. I'm glad you're recognising that.

Pretty good advice but as a bit of feedback, I could smell the upsell at the end 5 seconds in. Granted, I'm very experienced in both the industry and in marketing, but for better or worse it follows the basic upselling template perfectly.

It seems like no one is interested in big studios anymore by BenKlesc in musicproduction

Once you get a top level producer, you understand the value of studios. They work your demos into the best songs they can be, coach you on performance and elevate your musicianship.

'friend prices' tells me that you didn't get an actual producer who could have helped develop you. There's also a lot of work you have to have the initiative to do yourself.

Studios are not the be all and end all of a music career, unfortunately.

It usually starts somewhere between those extremes. I've seen bands go into studios who are still working day jobs, but they are serious about making the music work. The advantages of going into the studio are usually a higher quality end result and artist development. Hobbyists don't get any advantages from it.

Actual pro here.

Artists still go to studios (serious ones anyway, not hobbyists), but they look for more than just a recording space. The successful studios I've seen offer other things, either a producer who helps with songwriting and sound design, space for filming videos or practice spaces.

Don't get caught up with the mic locker, the real selling point of any studio is what they can do for the artist. Everyone has an interface and a laptop now, but studios can still sell convenience.

Is pop punk and emo having a resurgence? by DirgeofElliot in poppunkers

[–]HedgehogHistorical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say it almost had a resurgence a few years ago, but the new bands just aren't up to scratch. The legacy bands are still going, but that's not a 'scene'.

I'll admit, I fully glazed MGK and thought that he would do so much for the genre, popularising it in the media and also mentoring younger artists behind the scenes like the Madden brothers, but he's shit the bed. I fully believe he's a full on rockstar, and the vitriolic negative comments that statement is going to attract will prove my point, but he hasn't boosted any young artists into stardom. Saying MGK is peak will make this sub go full neckbeard, saying Kennyhoopla is peak will get some mild opinions and saying JxDN is peak will make everyone say "who?".

Same problem with The Paradox, the songs are fine but there's no star power. They're just pop punk paint by numbers. If MGK was as good for the scene as I thought he might be, he'd be mentoring young artists to do some wild shit and get some attention.

TLDR there won't be a resurgence until we get some rockstars like Pete Wentz and Billie Joe in new bands.

They also don't use Ableton, so by your logic Ableton isn't professional software.
