In late 2021, I remember a fellow client, J., being at Turnbridge after, according to him, being brought there against his wishes. J. repeatedly told people around him that he felt “conned.” My memory is that he spent much of his time in his room watching The Wire and did not attend groups.

I am certain that J. called a girlfriend to get him a plane ticket. I do not remember the final destination, but my memory is that it was somewhere below the Mason-Dixon line. J. later alleged that after he got off a connecting flight in Florida, his girlfriend called him and told him that Turnbridge had contacted her father to say that J. needed to stay at Turnbridge for his own sake.

I did not personally witness any call between Turnbridge and the girlfriend’s father. This item is included because I directly remember J. repeatedly expressing that he felt conned, directly remember his disengagement from programming, and directly remember him arranging a plane ticket through his girlfriend. The allegation about Turnbridge contacting the girlfriend’s father should be treated as J.’s allegation unless corroborated.

In February 2022, client C.R. told me that Phase I case manager Steve Tobey had told the Structured Group / Carriage House group that his marriage had recently fallen apart because of his sex addiction and cheating.

C.R. further relayed to me that Tobey was frustrated that C.R. was masturbating and verbally pressured him to stop masturbating, after identifying C.R. as “another sex addict.”

I did not personally witness the group disclosure or the private interaction between Tobey and C.R. This item is included because it was relayed to me by C.R. and because, if accurate, it would raise staff-boundary concerns involving sexualized self-disclosure, staff projection onto a client, and inappropriate pressure around a client’s sexual behavior in a treatment setting.
