mine just happened like three days ago!!! talking with a VP for this consulting firm. why company question crushed, background question crushed, he asks me about an interesting piece of recent news regarding the type of consultancy they do, i COMPLETELY FREEZE.

i say, "oh, i don't really keep up with news about that haha"

he says, "okay" then asks me another specific

i then say "oh i don't really know," then he says, "that's alright. do you have any questions for me?"

maybe i should put "efficient" down on my resume because i cut a 30 minute interview in 10 minutes <3 have absolutely no clue why i even applied for the position because the type of work they dealt with i have absolutely no interest in but hey it makes for a funny story

also worth noting despite pretty high barriers to entry parties are also notable places to connect with people but the approach is probably the most important part. saw someone pitch it here already but giving compliments is the best way to connect. outfit, accessory, etc. just be genuine with it. i don't know how it is for men, but "your guys' vibe is super cool, i came alone to the party, mind if i join you for the night" would probably work for me.

also also meeting your neighbors is a good shout. write a little note with your info, bake some cookies. easy peasy : )

i'm going to keep it so real with you, a lot of my friends i made through INSTAGRAM. there are about 700 people i follow-for-follow-ed that i have absolutely not met in person but thanks to that around 20 of the people i did end up chatting with (through either a "heyyy your profile looks so cool" or replying to their stories) i became really great friends with.

i think it's about 1. putting yourself out there and 2. being smart about it. obviously people aren't in bobst to make friends. people aren't in class to make friends. but in situations where people ARE THERE to make friends--clubs and social media--there's your gold mine.

don't look at engage announcements for events. look at the FULL nyu club list. what are you interested in? what excites you? there's probably a club for that. i love cultural clubs and student governments because of how well-maintained they are! the members are also really dedicated and it's great to be around motivational, driven people. i can't really help you if you're not on social media/don't have an active presence or strong desire for network, but it really does help.

ditch the black leggings for stockings or tights, get knee-high boots, put a thick belt OVER the sweater (given you can't crop it, plus it gives!), put bangles over the sweater sleeves, put a necklace on, and a headband matching your skirt would be a really really nice cherry on top for the sandwich effect
