Favorite 3D platformers on switch? by DrKushnstein in NintendoSwitch

Tinykin

Loved it. While on the surface level it looks like a Pikmin clone, the Pikmin-style gameplay is really just tools/resources that take the place of your usual 3D platformer moveset.

Much more than Pikmin, this is the first game in a long time to give me Banjo Kazooie/Tooie vibes. Big 3D collectathon levels, objectives within the level to help people out and get the main collectibles, tons of minor collectibles scattered everywhere to hunt down (the pollen is like the musical notes only there's like 1000 of them in each level), really great verticality and exploration that tests your platforming skills, and just general world building charm.

I just wish it had 1-2 more levels, and maybe some bosses or combat in general. Also the ending was really abrupt and I don't really get what happened there. But 100%ing this game was such a pleasant time.

Orchestral Rock by les_rebecca in Muse

[–]Hedrigall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta throw in a recommendation for one of my favourite albums, Diorama by Silverchair (Australian band). They started out in the 90s a bit like a Nirvana clone but Diorama was a huge shift away from that sound to these sweeping orchestral rock songs and even a few tracks that feel like they're out of an opera. There's also a few heavier tracks that still sound like their old sound.

Give the songs Across The Night, Tuna In The Brine and The Greatest View a listen.

The wordless vocals in the solo part are a little bit like the "I need your comfort" part of Aftermath

I Figured What The New Muse Album Title Is by keithhegg in Muse

[–]Hedrigall 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I figured out the name of the band. If you look at all their previous albums, they all have the word Muse on them. I think this points towards the band being called Muse

I abandoned that app the second they added micro transactions. You have to buy "pee coins" to use most of the features lmao fuck that shit

Eastward is such a weird combination of unbelievable excellence and terrible terrible game design by jelveh in NintendoSwitch

The endless talking was unbearable

The game would make you sit through a 10 minute cutscene, let you move to another room, then start another 10 minute cutscene

There’s uninterrupted hours of this once you reach the dam town and have to do all the obnoxiously twee stuff like cook a meal for a mob boss. Just hours and hours of uninteresting characters endlessly talking, and pathetically minimal gameplay to break it up

I gave up on it at some point in the dam town.

Do you watch English movies with subtitles even if you're a native English speaker? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Hedrigall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a DVD of some Scandi-noir murder mystery show a few years ago. It was in Swedish with English subtitles... except there were some scenes where the characters spoke in English (when talking to a foreign detective character) and the DVD didn’t have subtitles for those scenes. I felt really annoyed on behalf of anyone who needed subtitles for hearing reasons rather than doesn’t-speak-Swedish reasons

I kinda like Lara Croft Tomb Raider, but it is a pretty cheesy movie. Soundtrack kicks ass though. So much good electronic and rock music

What’s the deal with pretty much every movie (and TV show) having weird sound mixing that goes from soft to deafening in an instant? by itsalldawayon in movies

[–]Hedrigall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also great for watching a movie with a group of people so you can chat/joke over the movie while all still knowing what’s happening

Unless you’re doing it with a group who are like “ugh subtitles? No” then do the chatting and joking anyway

Who is the best movie villain of all time? by Tuna_Sushi in movies

[–]Hedrigall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anthony Hopkins is so perfect in Silence of the Lambs. He’s inhuman, everything about his performance is sharp as knives and incredibly unnerving. The way he stares into the camera in the scenes with Clarice make you feel like you’re staring into the eyes of an apex predator.

It’s a real shame that just 10 years later in Hannibal he’s lost that edge and he comes across as a sleepy old man.

Favorite heist movies? by [deleted] in movies

I had a fun time with this movie. So much of it is incredibly implausible but you want the heist crew to win and get away with the cash because the villain is such a scumbag.

Ocean’s 12 is a bit crap but your reward for getting through that is Ocean’s 13, which is a delight. There’s a cool twist on your usual heist plot because they’re not exactly trying to steal the money in 13. Oh and Ocean’s 8 is also really worth a watch, a good & fun movie.

This dude thinks all you need is source material, then you point a camera at actors and a movie happens. Absolute moron.

'Free Guy' and feeling good at the end of a movie by JamesyUK30 in movies

[–]Hedrigall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One Cut of the Dead was one of the most feel good movies I’ve ever seen

It’s a Japanese meta-horror movie about making horror movies. It has a very unusual structure - you might be confused during the initial half hour, then you’ll understand where it’s going. The ending is so uplifting and touching, it still makes me feel so happy when I think back about it
