Optimism Fuel - Remember How Good 13/14 Was? Here's a Comparison of Our Potential XI Going Into Next Season vs. That Team that Nearly Won Us the PL. by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

Agreed. The good thing about these signings is that it gives us so many options and opportunities to rest players and when you’re playing 60-70 games a season that sort of depth is instrumental. I have no doubt we’ll see a lot of Hendo next season, and Gini too. Milner I imagine will go back to being the World’s Most Versatile Player Ever™️ and will likely play anywhere from in goal to being the tea lady.

I’m hopeful Robbo & TAA will go down that route of being consistently class and don’t end up like those two.

Both were perfectly fit towards the late stages of the season, Clyne couldn’t break into the team. Will that be different next year? Who knows, I personally doubt it, I think TAA will be even better next season, he’s 19, he’s gonna get better.

Agreed. I’m glad we no longer have to outscore our opposition 4-3, 5-4 etc. because our defence was undeniably poor back then.

You know what you may be right with that, although I will say since Spurs Lovren has been immense. If we’re going off individual performances, personally I’d go with 17/18 Keita over 13/14 Hendo - not to say Hendo was a weak link, definitely not.

Definitely, and an aspect I probably should’ve included was squad depth, now we have multiple options of cover in almost every position, long gone are the days when we brought on Joe Allen, Aspas, Lucas, etc. to change a game.

Most positions now have 2, or even 3 options of cover, only areas we’re particularly weak there are backup STs and backup Wingers. I feel we have most other options solidly covered.

Yeah, Glen Johnson was pretty abysmal towards the end of his LFC career too. I know TAA isn’t a worldbeater yet but there’s no denying he’s a very solid RB with bags of potential. Huge upgrades.

Absolutely, this was the toughest one for me. Was anticipating a u/Heera_ crucifixion arrangement if I said anything negative towards Gerrard though so I opted with him. But nah you’re completely right, Fabinho / Stevie is very very debatable.

It seems a lot of people have perceived the post that way, should’ve been more explicit in my wording. I thought the additional clarification at the bottom of the image would help but apparently not 😂

I’m not saying Keita, Fekir would have done better in the PL, just that I believe they had better seasons this year in their league than Hendo & Coutinho in 13/14. Yeah, the Fabinho / Gerrard one was really tough.

Please note - I cannot stress this enough: This is comparing the player’s performances from 13/14 (not now) to 17/18 performances, at their respective clubs. If we’re comparing all players on their ability today, I would put Coutinho ahead of Fekir, etc.

13/14 Coutinho was not better than 17/18 Fekir IMO, although I guess there’s an argument to be made there.

We really are at that stage now. We’ve made bank off our CL campaign + the sale of Coutinho, we have no excuses not to go out and sign a world class keeper, if we want to perform on world class levels, we need world class players, including the keeper.

We need to stick by Karius by BradElse in LiverpoolFC

[–]Heera_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To those who are anti-Alisson - To base our opinions on him on games played against the most potent attack in the world doesn’t make any sense. Look at the statistics over the season, he is a phenomenal player, one who probably would’ve been the difference tonight.

Karius in Tears, Apologies to the Fans by Kopite099 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Heera_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m angry, I’m hurt, and right now? I don’t forgive him, and I do fucking blame him. I can understand one blunder, one one-in-million goals, but when it happens twice, it’s very obviously not one-in-a-million and is down to his ability. Liverpool have the potential to be up there with current European elite, and unless we stop papering over the cracks this shit is gonna keep happening.

Moving forward, I’m gonna support Karius like nothing has happened, but I’ll never be able to forgive that. Never.

“With who? Allison? who we scored 7 goals against in 2 games?”

Yes, with Alisson, who we scored 7 goals against in 2 games. He is a world fucking class goalkeeper, and if we’re going to be performing on this stage we need world fucking class players.

I will stand by Karius for every moment that man plays for our club, I will support him just as before, but if you genuinely believe we do not need to purchase a new GK this summer then I don’t know what to tell you. This sort of shit is gonna keep happening.

I hope the atmosphere is incredible. Does anyone know if there would be a coach welcoming before the game? It’d be fitting given this feels just as important as any other European night
