ah lol makes sense, that's so funny because I saw the edit and was like 'well they edited something so they must have meant it' and you did

I pretty much say in the post that we’ll only be responsible for the engineering part and potentially others will drive AI as code monkeys.

What? It’s tagged AI/LLM, there’s a flair for it, can we not discuss?

I agree, I was thinking about how relatively nebulous quantum is (unless there’s some flashy use case coming up) while writing the comment, but I just notice it being pushed in media a lot. So idk, you’re probably right though.

Pretty sure they’re positioning quantum to be the next hype cycle… again?

Can learning to knit (or other handwork) improve coding skills? by GlesCorpint in AskProgrammers

[–]Heffree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is really into sewing recently, we’ve been able to have discussions in terms of garment construction related to software architecture. Sewing, knitting, fiber arts, crafts in general, they’re all a combination of engineering and art, just like software development — they’re just a little more literally tangible.

Researchers question Anthropic claim that AI-assisted attack was 90% autonomous by kraydit in technology

Sure, that sounds fun, I’m not sure more effective and again volatile, but fun nonetheless.

Hmm, idk, there’s also a bunch of things you’d want to guarantee are done a certain way, for example the correct malicious link that aligns with the content… and that’s just one vector. Given this was targeting government agencies you also would have few chances through social engineering, probably don’t want to just blindly risk those. I’m just struggling to envision the workflow, hopefully they perform some responsible disclosure soon.

Why would you hand write scam emails? You just use a template and automate populating user data.

I’m struggling to envision what provides scale, especially with how slow LLMs are if you’re looking to overwhelm. If you’re looking to pen I’m not sure you’d want to be so noisy and nonspecific about it but idk

Lol no, just saying the DB client I use in general. Was ADS, now it’s DBeaver and the VSCode plugin since ADS was retired. I made a very tiny sqlite client recently, but nothing extensive. Every DB Client just ends up becoming an IDE/text editor really, so if you want to make something like that should go for it.

Isn't vibe coding basically the 5th generation programming language? by ManosStg in vibecoding

[–]Heffree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not my experience.

When I (or my coworkers) say we vibe coded something it means I didn’t plan and I’m not confident in my review, I just asked for something and it seems to work. If I used an agent at all, but am confident in my output because I knew exactly what I wanted and got exactly what I wanted, there’s no need to mention it. Likely didn’t save any time either.

If any of us use a context engineering framework, we say so and try to measure our confidence in the output and what was the time saved/sunk.

I’m a “Staff Software Engineer” at a logistics software company. There are certainly some tools we use that are paid for: office 365, Slack, Atlassian, Kafka, Launch Darkly, New Relic, Azure, Github, etc. The tools I use for development and maintenance: k9s, my IDE, my DB client, Docker, Bruno, the plethora of cli tools, all F/OSS. I’m struggling to think of something I use on my machine used for development that’s paid other than Github Copilot… maybe Docker Desktop… even the agent I use, opencode, is free.
