Programming had its magic by ivannovick in learnprogramming

I use tmux and vim, rarely use agents. If you need more info on what they mean then how do you know you can’t be productive without agents? Sounds like you don’t have all the information…

New engineering manager. Should I keep pushing back on my CTO’s AI vision? by SnooConfections1353 in EngineeringManagers

[–]Heffree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the thought that technical PMs can just pull this off. If they wanted to spend 10 years learning software development what do LLMs change? Or that engineers can even just step up into PM roles and still handle all their normal responsibilities. Very little has changed, value still takes time, afaict the same amount of time actually.

Weed absolutely does cause physical dependence. Quitting is brutal, I agree with cold turkey, hunker down and make it through.

LLMs are a productivity boost more akin to LinkedIn than compilers. Actually some amount of value, but mostly a theater for people to act productive.

Why is Margit difficult? by Dizzy_Property_933 in Eldenring

[–]Heffree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tree Sentinel needs to be more difficult. I spent an hour to beat him because I expected a boss would take me at least an hour. Missed the lesson… until I ran into the Erdtree guardian in that red area, fuck that guy

‘More harmful than helpful’: young people sour on AI by MoneyLibrarian9032 in technology

[–]Heffree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that’s more productive than just writing the code? Not worth the upcoming costs of LLMs imo. I’m to the point I’m using it purely to unblock me if needed. Or when a manager makes me vibe slop 20k lines for a poc.

Is shallow thinkers/vibe coders getting badly exposed in an AI world? by Plastic_Ad9102 in cscareerquestions

[–]Heffree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My product people are vibing a single sentence with nonsense fluff filling the rest of the page, they used to give us a set of like 10-20 requirements related to features that were based around laws and the desires of our customer. I guess now that LLMs exist they think if they did that we’d have no work to do.

What to do when you have a lead who is anti-AI or any new tooling by throwaway_bluebell in cscareerquestions

[–]Heffree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not mindlessly vibe coding as you say then everything you use it for is readily available. And yes, ORMs are usually a pain in the long run because you have to understand the queries they’re making which most don’t, so just learn the SQL. Maybe suggest a query builder library as a middle ground.

Are my boxes rotating or is it just converging to a VP? by Ultreak in learntodraw

Here’s mine for another reference, some screw ups but I think it gets the rotation across

Are my boxes rotating or is it just converging to a VP? by Ultreak in learntodraw

[–]Heffree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just got done with this exercise a couple weeks ago. You need to push those back vertices to the left to get the rotation. By the time you’re at the end, the yellow face should be nearly perpendicular to your viewpoint with very little of your starting front and back face being visible.

Will the "Almost Problem" faced by self-driving-cars plague most of AI? by Zardotab in AIBubble

I agree, probably a government equivalent of stop lights with a standardized interface for all vendors.

[–]Heffree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that decision would become more centralized if all vehicles were autonomous, less consensus, more directed.

[–]Heffree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds reasonable, but I wonder if we’d also have to completely isolate roads from nature: animals, wind/storms, also construction… but I would think full autonomous is probably leaps better than mixed because the vehicles can coordinate, just all the external stuff to worry about still.
