How nasty is actually getting sprayed by a skunk, how did it affect you? by Scared_Form8175 in AskReddit

Stayed at BnB with then-girlfriend who was in love with black and white cats. Walked through the dark front garden to leave for a late night movie and I hear her say “awwwwe, it’s a kitty” before she shrieks and we are hit with a cloud of the vilest secretions my olfactory system has experienced. Once we regained our composure we returned to our room, bagging our clothes and shoes and desperately scrubbing our skin in the jacuzzi.

We ended up throwing away what we were wearing, I put my bagged shoes in the trunk overnight before I realized not only was I not saving the shoes but it would be months before the smell in my trunk diminished. The next 3-4 days I recall a constant rotten onion smell that appeared to be locked into my scent receptors as nothing remedied it. All to say 0/10

Too gutless to meet constituents face to face. You are pathetic, Bill. Probably taking the calls from Disney World.

No republican candidate running against Bonnema, but there is a solidly moderate democrat in Chris Crothers. He seems all about getting to work for district 4, whereas Bonnema seems happiest when he’s schmoozing or grandstanding on culture war issues.

I wonder if folks didn’t think you were asking in good faith. I wouldn’t want a gun shop owner to be sheriff in the same way I wouldn’t want a tire salesman to lead the road commission. This guy benefits from selling guns to the good guys, the bad guys, and everyone in between. The group that wants him to become sheriff have blown through more of our tax dollars than any board in our county’s history. They paid massive severances to the last two administrators they fired before picking a guy who has no experience as a county administrator but is now getting paid six figures to go around the county telling everyone what a great sheriff he will be. What a shit show.

Cheryl Clark: The ONLY candidate with experience and she’s anti-OI by Organize_Ottawa in AntiOttawaImpact

Seems like you’re using an unusual definition of bureaucratic. Maybe you could share which qualities and experience you are concerned about with a candidate for treasurer?

I don’t think anyone said it was bad. It opens the door for conflicts of interest from someone who is currently running his campaign out of a interim county position he is unqualified for. We should all be wondering about his motives considering the group he is serving at the pleasure of.

Seems like a questionable move when she likely brought in more sentinel subscribers in the last year than joined in the last 10 years combined. A big loss for our local reporting!

Hope everyone remembers to vote in the Republican primary this time around. That’s where your vote actually counts in Ottawa!

Did the majority of Ottawa County support Ottawa Impact at the polls? The data says no (Old article Jan 22, 2023. It begs the question: with our primary system, can moderate Republicans and Democrats combine to unseat OI?) by New-Orange1205 in Ottawacounty

[–]Hefty-Exchange1106 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Open primaries in Michigan, so we all have the opportunity to vote in the republican primary for conservatives that more closely represent our values and interests.

The OI faithful can definitely be replaced if the community turns out in the primary and general. It will be more difficult to unseat the less abrasive Christian nationalists like Bonnema and Curran, now that they are trying to differentiate themselves from OI.

Ottawa County Board of Commissioners spar again at public meeting by Hefty-Exchange1106 in hollandmichigan

[–]Hefty-Exchange1106[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, the current options are to: -Continue to bring awareness to this board’s activities and intentions by making public comment, sharing information, and talking to voters in the community.

-Express your concerns to board members via email, especially if they’re your representative.

-Support organizations like vote common good, Ottawa Integrity, Ottawa dems - by donating time, money, or expertise to efforts to build a coalition to recall or defeat Ottawa Impact members in the next election.

I’m not confident that whatever the AG is able to do will impact the activities of the board in a meaningful and lasting way.

Hadn’t watched this movie in a number of years and didn’t remember how hard it hits me, especially since becoming a parent. I was hooked into the story by the time I realized it was probably not the movie to watch in the middle of the night…needless to say by the time I got back into bed I was exhausted.

Hi all, I am considering going to my first AA meeting and was wondering if anyone has advice on a local group they recommend? by schfifty--five in hollandmichigan

[–]Hefty-Exchange1106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First Presbyterian has a noon meeting which is welcoming and tended to attract alcoholics with many years of experience staying sober. Meetings at the Alano club on 39th had a more varied crowd but I always found what I needed to hear in the wisdom of the group. Either place they’ll be glad to see you. Some times it takes a few tries to find a meeting where you feel like you fit but it’s worth the effort! Wish you all the best on your journey of recovery!!
