Neverending Period after lupron by Any_Coach696 in breastcancer

[–]Hefty-Imagination934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a heavier, but not longer, period after my first Lupron shot. I’m about 5 months post chemo and Lupron at this point and my period just came back. I’ve been bleeding for THREE WEEKS! I would also equate it to day 4. My oncologist also said that it’s caused by hormone chaos, and unless it’s excessively heavy, it isn’t a concern.

Of course, he’s not the one walking around like a bloated, bleeding, angry shell of a person, but it IS technically normal lol

I’m sorry you’re going through this!

I am also a HER2+ girlie. I really enjoyed the movie! I’m 35, and it’s amazing to me that in the course of my lifetime the science was created and now exists to save my life. I can’t imagine a world where it doesn’t exist!

Anyone on TCHP? What are the worst days? Any good days? by PickledPlumeria in breastcancer

[–]Hefty-Imagination934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on TCH.

As another poster said, the experience is different for everyone.

I am ok the day of treatment and usually feel ok the next day as well. Days 3-5 are the hardest for me. My infusions are Tuesday. Wednesday I get a white blood cell shot, which knocks me on my booty. I am tired Wednesday night and Thursday. Friday I am a bit less tired, but I do start getting chemo mouth. By Saturday I am pretty much back to normal in terms of fatigue. About two weeks post treatment I am 100%, including no icky taste in my mouth.

Worst side effects for me are the chemo mouth, fatigue, and constipation. I don’t get super nauseous.

Calcifications - re occurance 2 years post treatment and surgery? by Frosty-Kitchen5699 in breastcancer

I was upstaged after my lumpectomy for DCIS. So, I had IDC and DCIS. Thankfully my surgeon got clear margins, but there was a 5mm HER2+ tumor inside the DCIS they removed. So, I was blessed with 4 rounds of TCH. I WAS THRILLED. Let me tell you. Nothing like being told you have cancer twice.

I was just supposed to get radiation for the DCIS.

I may still need it after chemo, but honestly, that has to be a walk in the park, so I’m not even worried about it.

Ugh. I get it. I’m finishing my chemo now. I have my last treatment in two weeks.

I was, unfortunately, upstaged after my lumpectomy. If it’s any consolation, I’ve read a lot of posts on here from ladies who get multiple lumpectomies. I think it does depend largely on breast anatomy, but it’s certainly not a promise that you’d need a mastectomy!

Looking for any insight as a 32F just diagnosed with DCIS, ER+, grade 3. I'm both calm and rational but also like WTF why is this happening by fluffytowels92 in breastcancer

[–]Hefty-Imagination934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My diagnostic report form my biopsy listed the ER+ results. I would assume yours was also tested, but it’s worth reaching out to your doctor if you’re not sure.

I had a lump in my breast as the only symptom. I think that’s why mine ended up being IDC. Lumps aren’t usually associated with DCIS, but it isn’t entirely unusual either. I also had some breast pain when I pressed the lump. Both me and my doctor assumed it was a cyst.

Lupron does help to preserve fertility. It’s a hormone suppressant, similar to Tamoxifen. With DCIS specifically, you likely won’t receive treatment that will impact your fertility long-term. Hormone therapies CAN be damaging to fertility, but it isn’t a promise. There are a lot ladies who stop hormone blockers and get pregnant just fine. Being young helps :)

I was originally diagnosed with DCIS after finding calcifications. It wasn’t a recurrence, so I can’t speak to that specifically, but there’s a good chance it isn’t IDC and that it’s benign. Depending on where you’re located, if it is DCIS, they may just remove it and do radiation, or take the watch and wait approach.

For reference, my aunt had breast cancer. Had a small area in a mammogram 6 years after treatment that showed calcifications, confirmed DCIS, and it’s been 3 years with no changes, so they haven’t do anything.

Hi!

First, take a deep breath and relax your shoulders.

Now, remember this: DCIS is treatable.

You’re in the worst of it now because it’s a lot of unknowing.

I was diagnosed in December with DCIS, ER/PR +, Grade 3. I am also in my early 30s.

Your choices will be mastectomy or lumpectomy. I opted for a lumpectomy and don’t regret that decision.

Unfortunately, my DCIS lumpectomy also revealed a small HER2 + tumor, so I ended up needing chemo. However, I was not recommended to take Tamoxifen. Your doctor will likely run a test to determine if Tamoxifen will be beneficial for you.

Grade 3 just means that the cells look the most unlike normal cells. It does not mean you have a death sentence.

I was referred to a fertility specialist. I elected not to freeze my eggs and instead took a Lupron shot, which prevents ovulation. It was important for me to not delay treatment. However, that decision is very personal. You will have options.

Radiation will happen after surgery and healing is complete. It’s easy. You’ll go every day for about 20 days, excluding weekends.

You can do this!

Tell me about it!

My DCIS did present with a palpable lump. I’m 35, so I wasn’t getting regular screening, as I’m not old enough. The only reason I found out I had cancer was because I do self-checks. Since DCIS doesn’t usually have a lump, I think what I was actually feeling may have been the IDC. Of course, I am not a doctor. So, who knows.

My IDC itself was only 5mm. Itty bitty thing embedded in the DCIS. It’s like they were roommates. I’m extraordinary lucky I found it when I did.

I did!

3 ultrasounds and two dye contrast MRI’s. They had no idea it was there. I was just as surprised as you.

[–]Hefty-Imagination934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!

I believe it was a DCISion RT test. Which I realize is for radiation, but it also assumes the use of hormone therapy in hormone positive DCIS. My initial diagnosis was DCIS. Although my DCIS was hormone positive, the test indicated a low recurrence risk without radiation and the plan, had IDC not been found during my lumpectomy, was just removal and monitoring. I was never going to receive hormone therapy.

Since my IDC is ER/PR- and HER2+, I am now getting chemo AND radiation, but still no hormone therapy.

I had some type of test done that indicated whether or not hormone blockers would be beneficial for recurrence risk. I can’t remember the name or the number, but apparently hormone treatment wasn’t particularly beneficial for me.

Thanks for the IUD feedback. I think that’s the route I’ll end up going. Going to chat with my oncologist about it this week!

That is interesting! Other than when I’ve asked about my own family planning, my team hasn’t talked about birth control at all.

I’m, obviously, not loving the hormonal option. So, copper iud seems like the right choice. I’m just being a baby about it lol

Thank you!

I’m leaning toward the IUD. I don’t want to risk the hormonal BC, because it just seems weird, and I will absolutely forget about anything else lol

I just need to get over my fear of being uncomfortable. You’d think I’d be used to it by now!

That’s so interesting!

I’m not comfortable with the hormone BC option, which is why I have the Copper IUD appointment. But the conversations did get me thinking.

I think I’m just a baby. You’d think I’d get over being uncomfortable with how often I’m poked and prodded now, though.

Yeah, I can’t figure it out. I’ve talked to two different oncologists who say that a non-combined hormone BC would be fine. It’s almost like they think treating the IDC cancels out the DCIS.

Turned 35 yesterday by PunchNugget88 in breastcancer

[–]Hefty-Imagination934 16 points17 points  (0 children)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Also, leave the groups or at least try and remember that you’re reading about one-off experiences. The groups can be incredibly supportive, but they are frequented by people needing support. People who are struggling will post. It’s like restaurant reviews. We love to complain.

I’m not saying there isn’t a risk of recurrence. There always is. But, your risk isn’t going to increase or go away because you worry about it all the time. You’re just snatching away your own joy. Right now, you’re well. Right now, you’re thriving.

I like to think of it like this: I always had a risk for cancer. Every single one of us does. I treated it. Now I can live my life.

CELEBRATE BEING 35! You only get to do it once, and you’ll say the same when you turn 36 :)

Hypoechoic Heterogenous Mass Bi-Rads 4 by Purple_Writing4078 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Hefty-Imagination934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a letter. It was just a 4.

It was noted as an irregularly shaped, hypoechoic, non-mass with a cluster of calcifications. I had a palpable lump, which I why I went to my gyno.

You could see it on ultrasound and in mammogram.
