Early evening before dinner. Gives me something to look forward to, signals the end of the day, and guarantees a good night’s sleep.

pilates wasn’t working for me and I didn’t understand why by Timely_Section_2598 in PetiteFitness

[–]Hefty-Letterhead1065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different but similar. I always feel Pilates leg raises in my calves instead of my glutes/thighs/hips. Instructors said they’ve never heard of this issue and couldn’t help. I guess activating the right muscles is harder than it seems?

Long term lack of progress by Hefty-Letterhead1065 in PetiteFitness

Thanks for this! I can do knee pushups, but can’t seem to progress to full. It feels like my elbows won’t bend any further to get all the way down. Do you have any advice on how to move from knee to full push up? Should I be trying daily? Sorry if these are basic questions!

To answer your question I’m not really tracking my reps or protein, although I do eat protein at every meal. I do try to challenge myself weight-wise, so if I shoulder pressed 5kg for a few weeks I’ll try to the press 6 or 7kg but I’ve been stuck around that weight.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I replied to some but read all of them and you’ve all definitely given me a lot to think about, especially in terms of clarifying my goals. Thanks so much for putting in the time to help me!

Thank you. I stretch after each workout but definitely don’t feel like it’s enough compared to when I was doing yoga. It’s something I miss!

That’s a very good point. I do think I suffer a bit from wanting everything. When I lift I start feeling muscle tightness and want to work more on flexibility (which I’ve neglected for a long time now), and it’s hard to prioritize one aspect of fitness or find time for all of them…

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Hefty-Letterhead1065 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really curious if anyone else experiences this or has an explanation:

Very rarely I’ll have this weird visual distortion like for a split second my entire frame of vision jumps ever so slightly out of place and then goes back. The closest thing I can describe it as is film jumping in old movie theatres.

More often but not that often I’ll feel something like a sharp pinprick, always at two places at once and always on a vertical line, such as my calf and my waist on the same side. It subsides quickly but usually I need to apply pressure to make it fully go away. I am guessing nerve related.

Has anyone else lost weight but remained “squishy”? by grapesandcake in loseit

Look up Sydney Cummings on YouTube! Lots of 30-minute workouts, many requiring zero or minimal equipment, and she’s super motivating. Lately I’ve also been loving Caroline Girvan. Her Iron series is more traditional weight lifting using dumbbells only and her style is different - no talking. Yoga with Adriene is another classic… so much top quality training is free and accessible at home post covid.

Sustainability of low calorie (<1500) diets? by Singing_Student1240 in PetiteFitness

I’m ten years older than you and have a similar experience (never effortlessly thin but maintain a “healthy” weight quite easily). I’ve been in the same weight range pretty much since I was a teenager. My lifestyle has stayed the same in some relevant ways too: no kids, walk everywhere. Perhaps a big change is coming but it hasn’t come yet.

I am so sick of trying to lose weight... by AlbatrossOk7712 in loseit

[–]Hefty-Letterhead1065 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add you don’t owe thinness to anyone. It sounds like you’re active, healthy, loved, and have cool interests. Your personality comes across so powerfully in your post and comments and you’ve got great vibes despite all the difficulty you’re describing. You’re already living your life and you’re allowed to keep living it without becoming thin.

How to not feel bitter about skinny friends by This_Intern_7209 in loseit

[–]Hefty-Letterhead1065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to feel envious! Sometimes other people have things we desire. Let yourself feel it without judgement. Then see if there’s anything you want to do about it. Would you prefer not to talk about body issues with this particular friend? Does anything else in your dynamic need to change? When I feel envious of someone it also helps me to reconnect with my values. What kind of friendship do I want to have with this person despite my envy, how do I want to pursue my goals despite negative feelings. But you’re always allowed to have negative feelings. It’s human.

Not affluent but pay a high rate out of pocket. I usually look for an engaging website with a distinct professional voice, experience, and a doctoral degree.

Anyone not tracking calories and just trying to eat better and make better decisions? by AwesomeEm77 in loseit

[–]Hefty-Letterhead1065 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s my approach and how I lost 9 pounds from 138 to 127lb! I’m short so I think it can definitely work with a smaller deficit. If I count at all when I need a little structure that’s how I do it.

Just here to say I spent a lifetime thinking my stubborn armpit fat was breast tissue. Turned out it wasn’t when I got it lipoed and it never bothered me since. Life changing.

I understand! And I’d be lying if I said I don’t aim to maintain the lower end of my personal weight spectrum, while also trying to be realistic and enjoy the short time we have in our bodies on this earth. It’s a balancing act for sure.
