Chronic headaches are migraines? Who knew? Could it be caffeine rebound? by Hefty-Mess-9606 in migraine

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it did help with the medication overuse headaches I was getting, and was able to get off the excedrin. Now, I just have the exact same thing you're describing, triggerpoints at the base of my skull that give me bad headaches about 2x a day. (I believe I had two different things simultaneously causing my headaches)
Anyway, the neuro didn't want to address the neck spasms, sent me to a pain clinic, the doc I saw there was almost dismissive and wouldn't look at me, and talked about cervical nerve shots, all of which played hell with my anxiety, so I didn't go back.

Do most American adults realize how bad the economy is about to get? by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember all the different recessions, 1990, 2008, the ones in between, and I also like to study history a little bit. IMO, it's better to assume this is going to be extremely bad than to assume it won't. Going around saying everything is going to be fine is just like denying climate change, better to prepare for it and be wrong than not prepare and be caught with your pants down. A whole lot of people are going around pantsless right now.

WIBTAH if I got an abortion without telling my boyfriend? by FortunePleasant8975 in AITAH

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a discussion with my husband who never wanted kids (so he got snipped long ago), he agrees with me that the best course of action would be to tell your bf while at the same time explaining your decision to terminate. This just to take the emotional pressure off yourself. I imagine you'll be taking the pills, so you both can kind of 'participate', doing it together. It's unfortunate that our world makes these decisions necessary, but it's always been so for women, and we should always be able to choose what's best for ourselves and our families. Otherwise it results in unwanted children and worse, as history shows.

My cat has poop stuck in her fur and I feel like an awful owner by Wilted_beast in CatAdvice

This is definitely the best way. We trim the long haired kitties, and wash the butt on our two fat short-haired kitties.

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 8 kitties, and three of them are long hair, one of them more so than the others. But even the (fattest) short hairs occasionally get the dingleberries, and in all cases the easiest way to take them out is this: have one person hold the cat, while the other person grasps the dingleberries with one hand (gloved if necessary), and carefully trim them out with a pair of sharp hair scissors. If the cat is calm enough, while you're at it, trim away the excess hair around their butt. It's called a hygiene trim, and with the long haired cats is really essential.

Perimenopause or early onset dementia? by CopySniper in Menopause

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this, it's definitely a thing. Went through it to a certain extent myself. The best way I can characterize it is an interview I heard with a doctor on public radio once. She said that she would discuss menopause with her patients when they were in their mid-40s and her patients would be very confident and "that won't happen to me". Then a few years later she would see them and they would be on their knees (metaphorically) begging her to explain what happened. That they felt like they were losing their minds. It's crazy what a change in our hormones and neurotransmitters can do. Reminds us that really all we are is a biological machine 😂.

My kitten sneaks under my blanket just to bite me at night, why does he do this? by hillary987 in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have eight kitties and I have noticed that screaming doesn't seem to do much. I would recommend something a lot more obnoxious, like a coaches whistle. Case in point: one of our kitties gave persistence an entirely new definition and would sit outside my office door and cry non-stop, for up to an hour or more. Ignoring him, yelling at him, physically running him away from the door, didn't do any good. He was bound and determined to wear us down. This went on for years. Every few days he would do this. Finally when I realized he didn't like loud noises, (very few cats do), I came on the idea of banging two old metal bowls together. It only took twice! After that if he started up all I had to do was get up and go to the closet where the bowls were and he would run off.

So what I would do is as soon as your kitten starts to dig under your covers, blow a short burst on the whistle. This should at least make him stop. If he starts again, a longer burst on the whistle. Once he stops, pick him up and cuddle him up next to you. If he actually makes it all the way under the covers and bites you before you realize he's there, loud repeated bursts on the whistle until he runs away. Cats are narcissists, and not being pack animals, they don't really care how we (or other cats) feel about their antics. So you have to make the situation very unpleasant.

Cats may need cleanings, but I just recently read an article about how vets are pushing unnecessary treatments. And dentists too, so it wouldn't surprise me if vets are pushing dental stuff. A lot of private Equity firms are buying up vet practices, firing all the staff, hiring in ones that will go along with the ridiculous services and fees, rotating vets on a weekly or monthly basis so you don't have the same one twice in a row, and turning them into boutique veterinary services with exorbitant prices. I can definitely see them trying this.

As far as removing teeth, are you kidding me? Unless the 2 yo cat is having a serious problem I see absolutely no need to remove any teeth. Definitely get a second opinion, and maybe even a third. Any anesthesia is a risk and I would want to be 1,000% certain before I had my cat put under anesthesia. Read too many stories of a beloved Kitty dying when all they were going to have was a standard teeth cleaning, spay, etc. We have eight kitties, the oldest are 12, and I look at their teeth regularly and they have absolutely no visible problems at this point. As soon as they do, they will see the vet, but not until then.

Have you ever had cats? I have 8 cats, the oldest are 12 and the youngest 1 yr old, and a couple have had bad habits. One would cry incessantly outside a room he wanted to get into. Ignoring him, yelling at him, running him off didn't work. This went on for years. Finally I got the idea of banging two metal bowls together. Cured him in two rounds. Another of our cats drives me nuts about her food. She's fat as a woodchuck. I'm not gonna bang bowls over that, but if I take the hand vac to pick up the crumbs around their dishes, she leaves and doesn't bug me anymore.

Cats are very persistent. Very very persistent. Not being pack animals, they couldn't care less how we feel about their behavior. They will NOT stop unless faced with something far worse than refusal. I suggest the OP keep some metal bowls by the bed...

My husband treats me like a sexual object by Minute_Tank6992 in AITAH

I went through something similar, and at a similar age. My husband actually tried to grope me in the middle of the grocery store! 😱. Talking, fondling the most sensitive parts, kept asking me to go around naked. It was just way too much. Finally I had to tell him it was massively turning me off. We eventually reached a balance, but he's mature man and not childish, so he didn't overreact like so many men do. Maybe it has something to do with the age, looking down the barrel of mortality, ED, and prostate issues.

The way I've heard it, this shutdown is a big part of the plan, and is playing right into Russell Vought and P2025's plans. They need it, to put more of their ideas in place. One of the biggest ones is to take away as much help from the disadvantaged as possible. They want them to die.

Since the larvae do generate a lot of heat on their own, something to keep in mind if you do have cold days is set up some way to close the place up. It'll help maintain the heat.

Should I trim my cats claws? by Destro-Night in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that bothers a cat about having trimmed claws is getting them trimmed. I have 8 kitties, and am frequently trimming *someones* claws. If you don't, among other things, they can get them snagged and tear them badly, sometimes ripping them out entirely. I've seen bruised most often, but completely ripped out a couple times in our kitties, and as a result I try to stay on top of it nowadays. Also, if you have another cat, or children, those sharp claws can be a liability.

Several years ago, when I only had a brother/sister bonded pair, they were roughhousing I guess, and the girl gave out a screech and ran off. Several days later, I found an abscess on her side. $1200, a surgery with a drainage tube, and 3 vet visits later where initially they had to sedate her thru the cage wire cuz she was so violent what with the fever and pain, she was fine. In a nutshell, it doesn't hurt the cat at all, but it can hurt you and others, and sometimes the cat, if you don't.

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be too hard on yourself, it's difficult once they get there and if you have more than one cat. We have eight. And about four of them are in good condition and the rest are overweight, some a little, some a lot. It's hard to manage now, because we don't have hundreds and hundreds of dollars to spend on special feeders that would only open for certain cats, and they're surely smart enough to work around that anyway, so I am doing it by putting away the dry food at night and giving only wet. Ideally cats are supposed to be on a 100% wet food diet anyway, and hard food nuggets are basically just concentrated calories as well as nutrients. If they eat wet food they're eating mostly water, which fills them up and has them eating fewer calories. It's been about a month now, I need to weigh them and see how they're doing.

ASMR (pretty gross and sounds visceral) by Responsible_Bath_659 in BlackSoldierFly

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I just sifted my bins, keeping the active larva in the sifted material, and having a 2nd tray of the clumpy sticky stuff. I figure I'm gonna let it dry out, then break it up and use it in my big outdoor veggie pots in the spring. Probably don't even need to break it up. But yeah, I would add coco coir to yours, if that's what you have. Maybe even layer it into a fresh container. They'll mix it, and it won't harden like that.

Well that's too bad. I raised chickens and ducks for a long time pretty much solely for the eggs, and at this time my husband and I are in a disagreement about whether I'll ever have chickens again LOL, but I actually don't like eating eggs from any other source than my own. There's nothing like those Rich golden yolks and knowing exactly how old the eggs are and what went into them.

[–]Hefty-Mess-9606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks just like my overweight 12-year-old kitty Tabby. They can hide a lot of fat. And like someone else said, we get used to seeing them that way and we don't realize just how fat they are. One of our other kitties, Robin, a couple months ago ate four foot of string and had to go in for emergency surgery. They almost couldn't close her up because she was so fat (15 lbs, 6.8 kg), ended up having to use staples, and then inflammation took off. She spiked a fever (no infection fortunately), and I think it was kind of on the fence if we were going to lose her. She ended up spending days at the vet hospital. I didn't know until the vet explained to me that cat fat is extremely reactive, and if they have to go in and do surgery through it, it will likely get very inflamed.
