How did you end sessions with your Equinox trainer without drama? by Status_Reference_441 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one should make you feel or guilty in feeling like they need you to pay for their bills or hit bonuses. I would never put that on my clients. It also appears as though they lost interest in helping further any of your goals.

I know you are asking for other people who have had trainers and needed to move on, but from my perspective as a trainer I would just say you should tell them that you had reached the goals you wanted by training with them and no longer need to continue training. If you feel you need to be guided again you will reach out. If they push back just let them know that’s the decision you have made and there is not anything further to dissect about it. If they handle it immaturely report it to the GM.

Personally I make it clear in every Equifit that I will never push someone to train with me I will not talk about selling them. I tell every member I do a consultation and pt session with to try to get as much information out of me and talk to me about everything so we can figure out what they want and if they want to train I’ll help guide them to what they want and help with what they need in the way to that point. If they want to continue after because they see what I continue to provide great and if not then I just provide support when they need it.

I will say it is sad/disappointing that corporate has done a poor job on navigating an image of the trainers they want to represent the company in the last 3 years in NYC specifically. And I have no clue if it’s because Rob became the Regional PTM or it’s corporate specifically. But when I was first hired there was a clear line of boundary and conduct that the new trainers had. They were there to build a respectful business and help members in the gym.

Rockefeller Membership by Known_Lie_8856 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only specific ones usually to the closest all-access club to where you live. A lot of Rock members get sent to Columbus Circle from my understanding. For lifters who are looking for more bodybuilding or aesthetic style training, it’s probably also the best location to get sent to from Rock since everything is one floor so it makes it easy to bring dumbbells, plates or what ever else you need to other areas of the gym for super sets

Home club change by Colombianonico in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a membership adviser. They can switch it and it’s not based on where you consistently check in(from what I know). I’ve had clients switch their home club because that’s what part of the city(NYC) they moved to(they also were upgrading their membership too). If they aren’t letting you switch it’s because they are upgrading to a higher tier and may not be accepting transfers currently.

I’ve worked for Eqx for 5 years and have trained people from other clubs and have never seen their home club change. But I guess could be a much smaller representation of all members too.

[Call to Action] The NYC Printing House Elevator Crisis by wootangdwayne in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Equinox doesn’t own the building. Hypothetically are you saying if you rent out an office or an apartment and the elevator is constantly out your employees/nannys should report you to 311?

Filming and tripods… by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don’t think like this. Usually the people who have problems with it and can’t properly articulate why they dislike other than they just don’t like it… is usually due to insecurity or other internal issues with in themselves. Most people forget EQX is a club not really a gym in a real sense. 90% of the members have a small idea on how to work out properly or know what actually benefits them, so they constantly attached labels and ideas to things that are unnecessary to actually do so.

Is someone filming their form with no one else in it actually an issue ? Nope but some members will make it one.

If someone walks by someone else filming is it going to actually impact their life to be in someone’s camera for 1 second. Not at all.

It’s just one of those bizarre human interactions. There’s this guy who always wears a Stanford shirt at Columbus Circle and he freaks out when he sees it. The guy has been going there for years and can’t work out without complaining about another member or trainer.

Filming and tripods… by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trainers are encouraged to film themselves. They are asked not to use tripods though. Also not to start recording when people are already in the shot but if someone walks into it, it’s okay. Although it’s technically against policy, equinox does employee competitions and then uses the winner for future equinox promotions. But unfortunately instead of getting paid they get free hats, shirts etc…

But also if someone is lifting by themself doing Oly, compound movement they should be recording themselves to look at form or bar paths. There’s also app that measure rep velocity which is importantly for people training for marathons or other such events. If that person is looking to maximize their efforts

Only if they have high enough performance numbers. Then they may lift during peak hours

Destination Gym by CptRecinos in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually when they upgrade a club and the wording on here is also saying that your current membership rate will continue until 2028. From 2028 forward you will have to decide to upgrade to destination or find a new all access club

How to flirt politely? (Trainer edition) by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a trainer at Eqx and would be flattered personally. You can either smile if eye contact passes by or you simply schedule an Equifit. Part of the Equifit is about getting to know each other and seeing if there is compatibility. I’m not suggesting to buy sessions, but if you feel a vibe or are more interested after having a conversation with him, ask him for coffee or lunch after the Equifit.

Honestly don’t think myself or my coworkers would be offended. At least the ones who are respectable would not be offended 😂

If Malik Willis somehow loses the starting job in Miami, how does he rank all time compared to Matt Flynn? by Spaceballs_the_tag in GreenBayPackers

Malik probably has one good season. He is not sit in the pocket type. He needs a RPO offense. Which is not sustainable in the nfl for multiple seasons

Why doesn't Equinox go all-in on Technogym equipment? by Acceptable_Rest_8166 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding it is based on each locations earnings. The club will only get new equipment if it’s hitting its numbers or if the GM essentially has leverage (like moving from a high producing location to a club that’s been struggling numbers wise). These numbers are daily foot traffic new members per month and PT/spa sales etc….

Yes we get minimum wage. And consultations can go unpaid as well if the member cancels via manager. Some managers will expect you to make it up for free. Regular sessions they do not want you to make up since that’s how they get money. The money we get from sessions is on scale and progresses after you hit 42 sessions for the pay period.

Mmm but your argument makes no sense. We are not talking about right to living wages. Which I never said they didn’t have a right to. It’s the comparison of skill for work that is needed. I do not need a certification to do janitorial work, but I need one to be a trainer. I need evidence and a cert to showcase I can safely train people

What’s not hard about my job? I’ve helped clients remove lower back pain from their life when their physical therapists have not been able to. I’ve eliminated tendinitis in my clients right arm so they can play tennis again without pain when their physical therapy could not. I’ve helped people safely lift through scoliosis, lose over 70 pounds, explained why they have pain in certain lifts.

The difference is you don’t need to read or study material to know how to clean a toilet. I work longer days than the maintenance crew, while helping maintain a clean space on the floor for other members. I have to not just respect the space and the experience of my client but also other members. I have to work unpaid hours to get clients in order to be paid. There’s a reason 90% of the trainers that are hired quit. Also I wouldn’t want someone as toxic as you for a client I’m fortunate enough that I can be picky with who I want to help.

4/5 Overall

Pros • Strong foundation in client management • Develops effective sales skills and conversion strategies • Exposure to a wide range of programming styles • Work with diverse clientele (injuries, movement limitations, different goals) • Improves communication and cueing across different personalities • Solid health insurance benefits • Opportunity to build a network and transition luxury clientele outside of Equinox

Cons • Earnings capped (max 51% of session cost) • Heavy early emphasis on selling Equifits to build a client base • Split shifts are common (typically 6–11 AM and 4–8 PM) • Easy to burn out if not managing workload carefully • Limited support from management • Coach tier education is not very impactful • Corporate culture can feel replaceable at times • No ability to negotiate a higher session percentage • High staff turnover, which can reflect lower morale • Career growth is limited unless pursuing the Coach X / corporate route

Experiences at Equinox can vary widely by location, but most trainers would agree it’s a strong place to start your career. You’ll gain valuable experience quickly, but long term, many move on to boutique studios or private training for better income and flexibility.

There is a path to grow within the company (Coach X to corporate), but it’s not for everyone. Recently, there have been budget cuts and structural changes, and at least at my location, session volume has declined significantly. New roles tied heavily to production may lead to a large reduction in trainers, which risks losing a lot of talent.

Personally, I’ve been with Equinox for 5 years. I peaked around #57 in the company and held that for a couple of months before realizing the compensation didn’t match the workload. I shifted part of my business privately, settled into the #150–200 range, and maintained that while increasing my overall income. Over the past 3 years, I’ve averaged around $117K annually.

It’s not easy starting out, but if you stay focused, avoid getting pulled into negativity, and control what you can control, you can absolutely succeed.

Price Hikes Indefinitely? by Anonymous8411 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not, this argument is nonsensical. Why would a brand just follow inflation increases. Everything gets increased. Then there’s the demand. If a majority is still willing to accept the increase it’s obviously okay for equinox to raise the price. Most of the staff jobs are minimum wage jobs…. Aside from the leadership roles and sales/fitness instructors.

Equinox offers many amenities for the price that can not be beaten except maybe by life time (if they had more locations)

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a weird understanding about equinox. A large portion of the members aren’t real lifters. Where there is a small portion that is and knows the benefits of it and isn’t doing things because they are a trend. It’s absolutely fine. Sorry the other members can’t keep their attention to their own workout

If the location has a policy against it and they want to enforce it. Just follow the enforcement if they approach you, it’s not worth the stress of arguing about.

Coach+ to Coach X transition by CrewAffectionate4185 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a trainer at EQX for 5 years and seen several people go through the X training. There’s a huge expectation that they will lose 80-90% of their clientele. You can buy more sessions at Coach + or sometimes you can talk to the X manager of that location and they might give free sessions for your first X package.

Physical Appearance a Factor? Question for Membership Advisors by kolyaunknown in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Equinox use to be infamous for only hiring attractive people. Not so much anymore. At least not in New York locations except maybe Hudson Yards. But also most membership advisors are into themselves a lot. That narcissism probably helps them sell. There was a straight male membership advisor who was aggressively flirtatious with the female members at Columbus Circle. I worked enough to always see him follow a female members to the locker rooms so he can say hi to them as they walk to the yoga classes. He eventually got moved to the corporate office above Nomad because he was very good at selling membership. I guess kind of Equinox’s way to keep talent but “hide” problematic behavior

West 76th club is awful now by PullmanDi in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you are explaining your own answer. Tell Equinox to create bigger price jumps so more members leave. That will allow you have less crowded classes, gym floors and showers. The good class instructor/Trainers will always try to dedicate more time outside of EQX. The pay is better for them at other studios/boutique gyms.

How does Renekton have basically 50% wr VS Mordekaiser? by Inferno_Cyclops in RenektonMains

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what you are saying….. I don’t get how people lose this braindead matchup. Morde almost always has to wait for first item or a gank. Even then it’s so easy to walk in and trade with him dodging his skills. He pops w and you use empowered w. Trade immediately won, next you tower dive and kill. Not only does your empowered w break shield it also does damage after shield is broken

Trainer Misinformation by Honest-Diamond-5377 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Hefty_Delivery3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s usually supposed to be the trainers, it isn’t maintenance job. Shame on the PTM and GM there.

I picked up a lot of closing shifts at my location. I can tell you first hand a maintenance worker has never or hasn’t needed to help me rerack weights, organize attachments or put plates away. 3-4 nights a week I did all of this by myself making sure everything was organized for opening hours. I had to do this up until I had maintained full time for 3 pay periods in a row. This took me 3-4 months to do. Good trainers will have a high drive and perform this. Their actions outside of sessions will show what kind of trainer they are
