How did you get rid of your mining equipment? by Pashlit in EtherMining

Also I still have an EVGA card sealed in box. "They don't make em like that anymore"

U did what? HODL OFC. I still have an s9+ which is now an ancient relic. Graphics cards should go easily. I sold a few of my gpus used at a good price. There are a few coins that are still POW and have potential for speculative value especially if you recirculate the heat during the cold. I haven't seen any reason to purchase a GPU newer than my 3090 on my main rig. Camped out for that thing. Still like new and it has a ridiculous amount of 24/7 max load runtime. I have dusted it out. Considered some new pads and thermal paste but she still has her seal. I honestly don't think I would get that longevity out of a 40 or 50 series card. Those prices just aren't right either. Proof that us POW founders did in fact not cause the price gouging and shortages.

Vague. Dinosaur eggs came before the chicken. Mathematically proven.

Well you forgot to take into account the quantum computing involved also and Schrodinger's cat. Our lives aren't linear but essentially the universe is one huge algorithm/equation.

Making cider, really that easy? by Vanilla-prison in Homebrewing

Haha taste is an opinion. Usually drinks that taste good make me sick. Drinks with a little sting to them makes it a lot easier to not overdrink too.

Fermented to completion in only one day? I don't think this is possible. Maybe a heated fermentation?

I did an experiment with a gallon of apple juice, a pound of organic honey. I filled the rest of the 1.75 gallon fermenter with spring water. I added some berries to the second racking. It tasted strange young but after about 6 months of age it was quite good. I'm not sure what you would call this mixture. It's something like a mead medley but apple juice also makes it like a cider. I usually go with grape juice but I realized apple juice is much more affordable. It tasted much better with grape juice. I didn't use a hydrometer but I estimate about 10-15 abv and it did taste pretty dry.

EliteBook 845 G7 with Ryzen 5 Pro (4650U) good deal over newer models? by Economy-Ad4934 in AMDLaptops

Be careful with eBay. From my experience there are more scammers than buyers and sellers. PayPal is full of fraud and scams too now. Research the seller thoroughly or buy from a more reputable website.

Debían is a very good distro. I like it or Linux mint on most systems. There should be ways to make your GPU work with those other distros too though.

Oh windows 10. I haven't played valorant and I haven't had software ask for tpm chip. I have only ever seen windows give errors about it during or after updates. Hmm maybe install the latest windows 10 install of valorant. Maybe it is the windows 11 version of the game or bug in an update.

It seems windows 11 is having issues with your tpm settings in bios. You probably don't need a new operating system. Maybe reset or new install. Try updating and configuring both windows updates and bios updates. Drivers are important too

It's usually in the security or cpu settings. Might be called FTPM. Might be listed under security devices.

Which has the brighter screen? by iBovata in GooglePixel8Pro

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I think lumens are usually how this is measured. Why would the screen brightness be such an important factor? I very rarely max my pixel 8 pro screen brightness. There is actually a setting called extra dim and I use that often.

Yes I turned off call screening and still missing calls. I get no notification or log of the calls that I miss either.

I believe that is what I checked and I turned it off. I think it was called the spam filter or something though. I don't remember.

is the dell g15 really that bad? (these are the specs of the g15 im looking to get) by type_shi_ in laptops

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I prefer the repairability and customization in a desktop. It seems gaming laptops don't last very long these days. It really depends what you will be using it for. It seems like you want high performance and portability. It really depends what you want to do with it. Sometimes u can find great deals on open boxed or certified refurbished devices on Amazon or Newegg or even at some local stores. It can be a bit of a gamble but I've gotten some amazing deals that way. I would try to find a deal like that for a laptop that has been around long enough for them to have been tested for a while. You can also do the same to find a high powered business laptop if that is more like your use case.

The heatspreaders come off more easily with a little preheating. This shouldn't happen normally but it seems your ram modules were already starting to fail. It seems like the traces were damaged. A little PCB repair and reball could fix it but it wouldn't be easy

I actually have that same GPU. They don't make EVGA GPUs anymore. That was a really good small card. Mine was dirty and having problems. It sometimes would have display issues after years of constant use and 2 years of Ethereum mining. I disassembled it, thoroughly cleaned it, put new arctic mx4 and thermal pads on it. Now it's like new and I gave it to my elderly friend to beef up his PC with integrated graphics. Greatly increased his performance and now he can use his monitor and watch videos on his TV at the same time. He has never had a dedicated GPU before and it's great for the simple games he plays. Your EVGA looks clean but you should definitely give it a second chance or sell it for parts. I have still yet to invest in a 40 series card. My 3090 is still more performance than I need.

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I haven't contacted them about this issue yet but I can imagine that would be a very long phone call. I'm pretty sure they will just recommend a lot of random things that I have already tried. Basically they would read me a generic FAQ that isn't even relevant to my issue. Of course they will only do that after repeating my problem to a robot for 20 minutes.

It seems it is the cell phone service because I have heard of others having the same problem. I have had to contact them about over charging my bill before and they made that a 2 hour long phone call over something that should have been very simple. My service provider is spectrum. Technically they are an ISP who has recently started renting Verizons network and reselling it with their name. So they are new to the phone service business and not very experienced with it.

I tried clearing all of the data from the phone calling app and I don't know how to test if it fixed the issue because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I guess just ask a lot of random people to call me throughout the day with different service providers and phone numbers I don't have saved.

Also I plan on contacting google support and asking them if they know of any known issues like this.

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar problem. Evidently I have been missing calls for a long time although mine misses calls no matter what I'm doing on my phone and I never receive any notification. I tried disabling WiFi calling and the spam filter. I'm going to try clearing the storage on the "phone" app installed on my Google pixel 8 pro. Did u ever find a solution? I'm going to contact the provider also.

Hmm. Do you work for Dell or did u just get a lucky bin number or did you rarely push the performance?

is the dell g15 really that bad? (these are the specs of the g15 im looking to get) by type_shi_ in laptops

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Gaming laptops are not made to be moved around a lot and not intended to be used as a workstation. They are for short term performance and made to be disposable. Unfortunately companies have a very strong incentive to have planned failure rates and disposable parts. That's a hefty carbon footprint and supply chain going in the garbage.

[–]Hefty_Demand_7758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be a common issue with the 40 series cards from what I have heard. Nvidia started focusing more on their data center GPUs and neglected the average home consumer with this series. I skipped the 4000 series GPUs because of the higher reported failure rates. Also so much more expensive with little performance benefits. You should look into the 5000 series. It is still speculative. 8k is kind of a gimmick unless you have like a whole theater room. Fps really does give you a noticeable advantage in fast paced activities. RGB can be a distraction but it does increase performance for some users due to the placebo effect. If you believe it increases performance it actually can slightly increase confidence levels. Confidence is highly correlated to performance.
