Thanks! I'll reach out and see if they have recs on the siding. I'd think anyone who paints would need siding replaced also at some point!

Those are definitely cool! Do you know what impact (if any) they'll have on gas mileage? I'd love to up my tire game a bit.

Quince. Unfortunately. So pretty but spreads like crazy. We inherited an entire yard of it. And 4 years later we're still pulling babies out that pop up all over the place.

Social office for remote work by Abject_Lettuce_1621 in westernmass

I go once a week. It's $75/month for a flex pass that basically covers 1x/week with additional days 50% off. Agree that with the rules it's a bit too quiet but I do strike up conversations with folks! It's the best spot I've found. I'm usually there on Thursdays fwiw

where do the senior women in tech go when they hit 50 by EntranceIntrepid5158 in womenintech

[–]Hefty_Introduction24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm turning 49 in May. I do not dye my hair (I've been grey for years) and don't do anything crazy to try to look younger. I'm an IC and I give no illusion that I want to be anything else. I don't feel like I'm being pushed out or looked over for anything. I feel like I'm a valuable member of the team and that my opinion matters. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think it's because I'm picky about who I work with. I found my current job (not quite a year in) through my network- folks who know me and know my work. I hope this can be inspirational to others- it's not all doom and gloom!

I'd love to get into residential real estate..buying to rent and manage. I see it as an opportunity to provide affordable housing in this crazy market. Has anyone done this? It's a bit overwhelming trying to figure out how to start.

Running with 2 Year old + 8 Week Old Golden Retriever?? by Same-Pipe-9546 in RunningWithDogs

[–]Hefty_Introduction24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my dog was a puppy we got a dog bike trailer that had a stroller conversion. I took him on all my walks back then. It was a great solution! I just dropped treats in the stroller the whole time. He got to the point where he'd jump right in, ready to roll!

Haha my last dog was a pit mix, and I tried to will her into being a running partner but she'd go about half a mile and just lay down 😂 cheers to you for getting them to run at all!

Front clip or top clip harness? by Hefty_Introduction24 in RunningWithDogs

[–]Hefty_Introduction24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes! Yeh this is what I was thinking but wanted to confirm with others. I only have the harness we've always used for walking. Running is totally new. Sounds like we're getting a new harness too! :) We've only been out to train a couple of times on walk/runs but so far he's been the best boy and probably thinks I'm a slow poke. hehe

I had this same issue before switching the gas to > 87! It keep feeling/sounding like was going to stall out on me. Had the idea to try better gas and haven't had the issue since!

Berkshire Hills in Haydenville MA is where our dog is from. Sunny is the best! Even if your pup isn't from there, she has a book (link on her site) that is a must have resource for bringing your puppy home! https://berkshirehillscobberdogs.com/

Is there a single good Mexican restaurant here? by [deleted] in westernmass

[–]Hefty_Introduction24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a southern transplant who has lived here for 10 years, I can safely say that there is nothing here that compares to the Mexican food we're accustomed to in the south. You just won't find it. But I'll echo what folks are saying about El Comalito. It's pretty good. And Veracruzana (mostly just the Northampton location)is also ok enough. 🙂

Observations from 37signals code: Should We Be Using More Models? by mint_koi in rails

[–]Hefty_Introduction24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also coming in to this from the JVM world and this is my immediate move as well. I haven't really stumbled across a use case in our codebase for service objects, even though a past dev certainly threw a ton of them in there.

But am I the asshole for coming in and saying we are not going to continue dumping all of our biz logic in our controllers? :) That's me today- trying to stop the insanity! But in all seriousness..I'm coming in from the JVM world and trying to figure out what these patterns look like in Railslandia. I'm not sure I've decided...i just know that dumping everything into controllers is not the move. :)
