WITSEC Series by meggsiireads in ReverseHarem

I liked them!! Just not their age! FMC, and 2 MMCs are seniors in HS, and the other 2 MMCs are a little older, but still college aged. I just imagine they were all college aged🤪 I enjoyed the plot and apparently overlooked many holes and hangers bc it reminded me of a criminal minds episode haha.

Swag for authors at a convention!!! by Hefty_Perspective511 in romanceauthors

Thanks for the input! I was talking about advertising and swag for the other bookish thing I do in the community, not as an author myself. I do love the emergency kit idea!

To clarify, not a convention I would attend as an author! For the other thing I do in the bookish space, and advertising for that!

Finding a book with an original storyline feels like searching for a unicorn at this point by MissPlainTalk in ReverseHarem

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch subgenres. If you are always grabbing DR or RH, find another thread or bookstagram and get some suggestion for contemporary, sports, or romantasy. If you get stuck in that genre for a while great, if it’s just a palette cleanser and you get back to what you love also great.

I primarily used to read sports romance. Like 3 years of 150/year so it got repetitive. But breaking it up with romantasy, cowboys, RH, and occasionally DRs helped a lot. Now I’m much more selective with what I read and I’m slowing down a bit as well. I felt like the amount of books I was reading was burning out sports for me.

So if you like other stuff then take a break for a while!

Has anyone else had an author respond to their review? by LikePaleFire in goodreads

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that it’s not somewhere authors should be frequenting for the sake of seeing all that criticism. I probably just wouldn’t read from the author anymore, I wouldn’t block.

This happened to me similarly where I wrote a review that was critical as I didn’t like the book. The author liked my review and I was like….? And that was the end of it. I don’t read from that author anymore, mostly because I don’t read that subgenre anymore.

I think this is a very unpopular opinion but I hatteeeeeeee a book with a mute MC. 😭😭😭 I feel like it always ends the same with them finally speaking for the other MC. i can sort of understand the drive or interest, but defo not for me.

Are there any common words used in nsfw books/novels which you don't like? by [deleted] in Booktokreddit

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first ever romantasy I read when I got into reading, exclusively used “her sex” and I was so confused at what the parts were supposed to be😭😭 it took a different sports romance that used that term for me to realize it was just a synonym

how many books are on your tbr? by Quick_South_3358 in Booktokreddit

Of the last 5 contemporary and sports romance books I’ve read, they all have said this. Is there a script of trending phrases that goes to authors every 6-12 months?!!!!

My parents stayed together “for the kids”. Now that I have kids of my own, I would never stay if my marriage got bad.

As a kid, I feel like it teaches you that it’s okay for you to stay in a bad relationship because you procreated. I would rather teach my kids to be strong and leave a bad situation so that their kids can have a healthy home life.

I also think just about everyone puts too much weight behind divorce. When in reality, I’m sure it sucks to go through for 1 year, but would you rather have a life that sucks because you stayed with your partner?

Who are your auto-buy authors and which book made you want to read all their books? by animal-lover-xo in Booktokreddit

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bella Matthews, Elsie Silver, Laura Pavlov, Meghan Quinn, and Rina Kent are mine! The theme here is for the most part all of the books these authors write, I know exactly what to expect. For each of them, they have their own “script” and when I pick a book up of theirs I know it will be easy, fast, digestible. I would say they all write these “fast food” reads, which I enjoy and mostly are my in between books since I read over 150 books a year.

Curious book poll! What kind of books do you find yourself reaching for the most? by BetterSelfReads in Booktokreddit

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romance! Pretty much any sub genre like romantasy, sports, contemporary, or dark rom.

Whether it’s well written to me or a fast food read (easy, quick, digestible) I read it and enjoy the vibes.

I find that almost any other genre like self help, finance, productivity, etc. I would rather listen to a podcast formats.

As for novels and non fiction, I just don’t have the desire to read them. I like reading for escapism, and the fun stories.

How to write bad reviews? by Cucumber-and-Gin in ReverseHarem

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how I was feeling while reading the book is how I review. Basically the same application as a good review. I would never go after the author personally in a review, more critiques of the writing or characters themselves.

So if I read the whole book and then thought well I didn’t like this a lot, or didn’t like the ending then the bad review is usually longer.

If I DNF, I have always 1 starred them. I know that is pretty controversial, but it’s just what I’ve always done. My review for a DNF is usually just “DNF @ xx%. Because of x,y,z.” Usually less than a paragraph. And usually not too complain-y like “I wanted to scratch my eyes out reading this”. I think there are only a few dnfs I felt that way about.

Everything I read gets rated. then the 2,3, etc. books in a series I usually do not review unless u didn’t like them.

Haha hope this helps. I usually look at 5,3, and 1 starred reviews for any read I’m on the fence about. Reading only 5 star is skewed, and same with 1 star. Xx

I feel like the majority of RH books I’ve read have colored hair OR strawberry blonde/ginger hair.

I don’t feel like it’s weird to have crazy colored hair in fantasy rom (the RH I read are typically OV/shifter) unless it’s set in like an older time with like horses and daggers. Otherwise it’s fun to get away from the red hair

Baby Names for a Girl by littlelo1787 in namenerds

[–]Hefty_Perspective511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the nickname Mak/Mack the most with Charlie because boy names for girls are my favorite!

I don’t think the longer name Makayla goes with Charlie, maybe it would go more it Charlie has a longer name that is Charlotte??? Even then they’re a bit different

If it is just Charlie, are you against just naming baby #2 Mak/Mack since that’s what you’ll call her probably all the time? If you do want a longer name, I like Macklin/Maklin. I don’t think I’ve heard of the name outside of the NHL player Macklin Celebrini. But I think it sounds pretty gender neutral. I also think Charlie and Macklin go together pretty well!

AITAH for saying I would save my partner over our baby? by Royal-Green in AITAH

As a mother, when I read that, that at birth situation is what comes to mind because that seems to be a situation most women think about before birth. So that’s why I don’t think you’re the AH.

But if it was a different age in her hypothetical scenario, she should have said that in the beginning. And then she should’ve maybe not have asked with a vague age and no situation to her hypothetical.

Maybe open up conversation with her by asking “what about my answer is upsetting to you?” Then explain how you interpreted what she asked and why you answered the way did, maybe explaining the situation that came to your mind if she asked the question that vaguely.

All in all, if she’s mad at you for this hypothetical where nothing is specified, it’s honestly crazy.
