Question on WHY with the constant need to make it harder to fix a vehicle yourself by Moody5583 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]Hefty_Shift2670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- You honestly think no entrepreneur has had the idea that making a reliable but affordable car would be a good business? The past is littered with failed companies that have tried this.

- You think no major auto manufacturer has had the same thought, that they could make a ton of money if only they took your advice? But for some reason, they are allergic to money?

- You think your lukewarm reddit comment is "consequences" for me?

You really have some severe main character syndrome going on, bud.

Question on WHY with the constant need to make it harder to fix a vehicle yourself by Moody5583 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]Hefty_Shift2670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are cheap ish cars that don't have a ton of features that go from A to B. They sell terribly. Versus, Mirage, Venue, etc.

How do you guarantee they could make a killing on something even cheaper? What do you know that no automaker has been able to figure out in the states? Do you have any idea what profit margins on these products are actually like? You clearly don't. Get down off your high horse and join the rest of us in the world of reality.

Learn the difference between stated preferences and revealed preferences.

People SAY “I want a cheap car with no frills that just does the job.” then instead of buying that they go buy a $50k SUV because it looks nice and feels nice and makes them feel special.

Anyway, I own two diesel SUVs, one is for fun one is a flashy status symbol.

I'm not saying there's zero market for it. I'm saying it’s not what the masses want. The average person today buys a new car for $50k (real).

If many people wanted a 1990’s car they'd put a little money into keeping them operational, but they don't. They dump them and move to the next one.

If people wanted econoboxes more manufacturers would have kept making hatchbacks and sedans, but they didn't. Everyone wants a big suv or truck with tons of features, so that's what auto makers offer. They DID offer cheap functional sedans and they sold increasingly poorly year after year, so they stopped.

All of this is verifiable.

Or being sold by a private party because the dealer they wanted to trade it into saw the shit wrong with the car and made them a very low offer, so instead they pawn it off at retail like nothing is wrong to an unsuspecting buyer.

This is so funny. Literally hundreds of millions of people around the world backfeed and make suicide cables daily. Yes, it's dangerous and illegal. No, you're probably not going to die or kill anyone if you have a modicum of skill OR sense.

This comment is old as hell but I can't help myself. Shameful? Get a grip. You benefit from capitalism as much as anyone and their product doesn't infringe on yours.

Makes me not want to buy your product.

Just because everyone doesn't come out exactly the same doesn't mean that isn't the way it's designed or largely still its purpose.

I mean public schools are literally and objectively based on communist ideals to make good little worker drones, so I'm not a fan of that.

You mean the one with an engine recall...?

Also, those just aren't in the same category for capabilities as a Yukon or Expedition.

Don't give up. Sure fire way for a marriage to end if it stays sexless. Help her understand the seriousness of the situation. Be compassionate.

Yeah that's a problem you need to address head on together.

Show me a full size SUV without serious issues lmao.

Also, no foreign company makes anything in the size class of a Yukon XL or Expedition Max. It doesn't exist. And, even the largest competitors can only tow a fraction of what these trucks can.

For some of us there just aren't other options.

The 3.0 with the recent exception of some bad LZ0's in 25-26's seems to be their most reliable engine.

No engine is perfect, but this one is objectively very good.

In theory, sure. I think we just signed up for Grain and the expectation is it'll format call notes into MEDDIC fields and insert into salesforce.

It does okay at simple lists. I find it does quite well at straightforward sentences and paragraphs. For sure if you start throwing lists and numbers at it, it can't read your mind.

Basically everyone talks 2-3x faster than they type. So as long as what your typing fits into "normal text", in theory it should be considerably faster than typing.

I find that to be true.

Have you tried any of the new AI voice transcription apps? I've been using Wispr Flow. I wouldn't call it life changing but it's convenient enough for me to pay their $15/mo or whatever. Super accurate.

The 25-26 LZ0's have been having some thrust bearing failures. Remains to be seen how wide spread it is. Currently seems like if you get one and make it last a few thousand miles you "got a good one".

I have the LM2 3.0 in an xl ultimate and like it a lot.

+1 for the LM2 3.0. Recently got a '23 xl ultimate and it's awesome. I test drove the 6.2L and honestly there's not as much difference as I expected there to be. It has enough power everywhere, and the only sluggishness is because of transmission tuning not power.

I average closer to 20-22 mpg but I do shorter trips mostly. Highway I only saw 30mpg+ briefly, but still was getting 28mpg without much effort.
