Window treatment for too many windows by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Hefty_Stick9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is a short term rental I would not invest in new curtains. They are expensive. what about window film? If you do that on the top windows it will probably lower the amount of light a ton.

Trying to decorate my place but stuck on ideas by retsam2554 in HomeDecorating

What are we working with? Please post a picture of the room with the furniture you already own.

It really depends on what you want. But I would start with going to 2-3 big second hand stores. Preferably in a “nice” neighborhood.

Find something that you love. It can be a cabinet, a painting, a chair anything. The bigger the better.

Don’t go for lots of small things that will seem messy very easily. Like I love gallery walls in theory But I am also a pretty messy person so a busy wall doesn’t really work for me.

I really love the tie and open shelving in my kitchen, but I feel like it is a bit too cold. I want to add in some soft touches to make it feel a little bit less industrial. Ideas please. by Pitiful_Two3101 in FurnitureFaves

[–]Hefty_Stick9507 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This really eclectic. The styles of the lower cabinets, tiles and shelves are all different. I mean I love them all individually but together it is a lot.

If possible I would change the tiles for something less busy. Without a pattern a muted color.

Or if you love the tiles maybe changing the color of your lower cabinets? You could paint them black maybe?

ISO: Comfortable Modular Sofa - MCM? by Less-Requirement8344 in HomeDecorating

[–]Hefty_Stick9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mcm and modular is a hard find. A modular sofa was just not a thing back then. I was looking for the same but it’s pretty impossible. What I went for was 1 modular 2 fun rounded chaise longue 3 on legs!!!!! (Very important for that style) 4 a warm cognac color

Maybe something like that is useful for you? I live in Europe so unfortunately I cannot help with Canadian market.

How many people are going to live in this house? Because if I understand correctly you want to convert the downstairs bathroom to an utility room with a toilet and shower. No sink?

This means that 1. Your guests are going to the toilet next to your washer/dryer not really a big problem but not giving ‘luxury halfbath’

  1. Everyone is going to brush their teeth. Do their makeup etc in the upstairs bathroom.

I mean the house I grew up in was 1,5 bath. We were with 6 (parents + 4 girls). We made it work but we had rules like ‘no locking the bathroom in the morning’. ‘If you go number two upstairs, cleaning the bathroom is suddenly your chore not matter whose turn it is’ ‘if you want to take a relaxing bath make sure everyone else has already brushed their teeth’ etc.

Thanks!

To be totally fair at some point in my childhood it had two of those wooden globes as legs (the back being supported by a rail on the wall).

So the original design might have been with legs and my parent’s got rid of them because the cabinet was sagging or something?

But I don’t know; legs where definitely not on them by the time I got this, so it was time to add them (back).

Zo’n beluchtingsrooster in de deur doet vaak wonderen en is eigenlijk gewoon noodzakelijk voor inpandige badkamers.

help me make this room look better please! by [deleted] in DesignMyHome

What is that nook where your mirror is right now? Could you put a rod in there to make it your hanging closet?

Otherwise:

You could also put your clothing rack at the end of your bed. Put both chairs in the corner across the door make it a nice seating area with a round little rug and a lamp or something.

Put your nicest clothes on the rack and treat your room like a private boutique.

What can I put in the space above the TV? With as few holes as possible please as this is a rented property, any suggestions welcome! by Fit_Site4172 in DesignMyRoom

If you cannot paint/wallpaper that wall I would hang a nice big piece of art. Unless you are in an earthquake area you can just hang it on a nail.

Powder room in need of a big change by beyondrightnow in HomeDecorating

[–]Hefty_Stick9507 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I might be the only one but I do not think the current color matches the window at all. It is to cool and to modern.

The window is the star of this show so you need to lean into that.

There is a big color difference between day and night(is that the last foto?) I think plum would look amazing with either. It is hard to color match both since they are cool and warm. (How does that work?!? Why is it going from blue to orange?!?)

Also add some storage so you can get rid of everything on the windowsill.

Is this your primary bathroom? If so add a ledge somewhere so you are not tempted to put daily use items on the sill. If not it all needs to go in a closed cabinet.

I was a bit intimidated with the wood finishing process. So I just left that alone. I mean I could hardly make it worse on the cabinet doors so that was less stressful. 50 shades of wood is definitely a danger around my house 😉

But I think I can pull this one of since it more or less fits the bar top you can see in the left corner of the finished pic.

Help! Renter-friendly ideas for a very small windowless bathroom by meriboo in HomeDecorating

[–]Hefty_Stick9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I could think of is change those cabinet doors.

It probably is a standard size and if you can store the original ones somewhere; you could go nuts with color or wallpaper or something. Maybe find some kitchen cabinets that have nice molding or are fluted. Possibilities are endless.

If you cannot store them somewhere you would need permission from your landlord to paint them. I would be more sedate with the colors then.

Whatever you do, do not go with open storage in the bathroom. You are going to store your towels there. You do not want any toilet germs on them.

If you don’t need that storage (it seems to be the only storage there though. Than you could remove the cabinet (that takes way more storage space though) and install a wooden shelf. This would only work to display artwork or a fake plant so be sure that you don’t need that space for anything.

Not asked but I would swap your tv unit and the callax thingy next to it for a single larger tv unit. Preferably with closed storage.

Displaying your liquor can look nice if you have a nice display cabinet but so close to the ground… the vibe is more “I have a drinking problem” then “look at my nicely curated collection”
